Seems like the obvious would be to make the bosses be inspired by other Fairytale monsters, or villains. Even just mythology and folktales would fit the games theme.

I completely agree! I feel like there are some really cool things they can do with the bosses if they went down that road

It does seem like a roguelike with straight forward mechanics, but i do like the combat though. reminds me of diablo.
