This was very helpful! I must say that my hands are smaller and the Green Lion frame is not very comfortable for me to hold; it rubs on the inside of my bony thumb and seems to be in the way a lot, so I've always opted to fall back on my cheaper intro. German saw. I just received the Knew Concepts as a gift and am eager to work with it - so this was great, thanks a lot for posting.

Hi. Very nice video. Thank you for sharing this with us. I own two German-style saw frames and I also have the exact Knew Concept Saw from your video. In my opinion, yes, Knew Concept is better but if I need to do many small design cuts and I need to constantly release the top of the blade so I can move to the next hole, the German-style is a bit better. Knew Concept is not as robust in time. I use it to do long cuts with many left-right changes in direction and is very good at that. But if I will do the flower that you cut there, then I will go with the German-style one in the long run. I think if you want to do things right you will need a minimum of 3 different saw frames. I own two (not identical) german style saw frames and the Knew Concept. I use all of them almost every day. I am also curious about the Green Lion because I heard good things about it.

Thank you for a wonderful demo. You went through a lot of sawing to show us the results, and that is very much appreciated! I think for the handle, maybe some foam padding - Home Depot has this sticky back foam tubing for handles, or make a new on on a lathe, or rubber dip them till they get thick as you need. Liquid rubber in any color. Great for comfort. I have not used it yet so theorizing. The 'German Style' saw is made in India. The blade bundle that it comes with is very defective. 2 pages of 1-star reviews on Amazon. The saw is shipped missing parts, the blades are rusty, the saw breaks, the blades snap easily, and so on. I would not buy that as per reviews. We all know that quality control does not exist in some countries. This is poor quality steel as well. The German one in aluminum looks very enticing! Note that Amazon does not have the best price for these saws, but Otto Frei does!

Excellent video! I have a basic saw frame but now I know that if I were to upgrade I would have to go for the Knew Concepts because just knowing that you have to use your hand to set the tension on the Green lion puts me right off! Clearly it's not designed for a woman with small hands. So thanks for showing the differences :)

I have made jewelry since 1973 and only used the German saw frame. I just ordered a Green Lion frame so watched this video to see what your thoughts were. But, I wouldn't say a German saw frame was an entry level saw frame or a beginner saw frame, I've used one for lots of intricate work for well over 40 years. Thanks for your thoughts.

When I say entry level I more mean the price. You can get one for under $20, so someone just starting out that doesn't know if they what to do this or not will not be out very much money to give it a try.

If your hand isn’t big enough for the green lion, you just lean on it like the old school way. You just don’t do it too hard, so you don’t break your blades. Same as the old school style. It’s not more likely to break the blades than the old school way. The difference between the New Concepts frame and the others is there is no flexibility in the frame. Less blade breakage is what they claim. It’s light for less hand strain, it’s not cheep, the holes in the aluminum frame is to make it even lighter. Too bad all your sawing is sped up. Can’t see them at work.

Randy, Great video! I have a 3" and 5" basic German saws. I seem to avoid sawing because I invariably break blades in the turns and curves. I am using Rio Grande basic blades. I am going to try your recommendation of the Flash blades. I am sure it is my skill level as well. I need to practice more. It just gets expensive when you break blades. My question is: Have you or anyone else out there used the New Concepts saw with swivel option? How well does it work? Does it make the change of direction and turns easier with less breakage and hand tension? It is expensive so I wanted to get opinion before I invest. Thanks.

The only thing I could see the need for a deeper frame is if you are cutting sheet for bracelets. If that were the case and I were doing several a year I would invest in a shear. I like my Green Lion.I couldn't wait for your review so I bought one and retired my German . lol

All I can say is good for the makers new concept saw. I don't begrudge anyone from the open market what ever the market can bear. With that said, I will never buy such an expensive saw when there a less expensive saws out here. Such if you make the money to throw at this expensive saw, go for it. It's not that much better the many of the other saws out here. I own a Germans jewelers saw and green lion the only difference is comfort for me and price point. The green lion is much more comfortable in the handle. The handle is the difference. If I had any influence I would ask the other company's to change the handle. I paid no where near $45 for mine. But I shop around to.

Used mine almost every day for ten years. Appreciative of the fact that you cover the subject of sawing... it is an easy place for the beginner to be discouraged and is generally sort of glossed over. A vital piece of equipment.

I have a Knew Concepts and I hate it. The bottom part (silver part broke) and they did send me a new part free of charge. It is a pain in the neck to place the blade in too. Also, you have to be exact in how low or high you put the blade. For the price I paid, it's not worth it. It may just be me, but I did not like it.
