    So very happy to see you guys back and doing ok. ThankYou for doing this video of the honest realities of the live aboard cruising lifestyle. This video, in my opinion, is a must watch for anyone considering this lifestyle, and also watching your complete videos of your journey. I’m not surprised that you guys got into burnout territory. Filiming and editing is a huge chunk out of your time that you sacrifice to document your travels that isn’t spent enjoying your surroundings or doing the maintenance or enjoying the relaxing opportunities, or that quality time together. I hope that you guys concentrate on yourselves more now and visit more places and revisit those that are special to you, and hopefully can take the rest of us along for a little part of it. Fair winds and following seas. Cheers from WA 🇦🇺

    Excellent video!! Love the new format!! Very informative and real!! I like how you were honest of the burn out and needing to get away and missing family and friends! I worry about that as well for when we start our adventure in 2 years! We have a2 year old grandson and it’s so hard to be away from him and we’re already far away from him now. I guess we’ll have to save up to ship him and his parents out to wherever we’re sailing for a visit!!!

    I know you guys suffered burnout before with these videos so I just thought I’d leave a comment of appreciation because I’ve loved your videos. They are real, not overly polished, practical, and still capture the wonder than is a circumnavigation. To those of us dreaming of and planning (very soon we aim to buy in 6 months!!!) to move aboard they are a wonderful resource and some of the best made sailing videos on KZread at the moment. Keep it up (maybe in a more sustainable way - none of us will begrudge a few less videos a month if it protects your mental health )👍 Also for future videos - what about useful skills to learn/courses to take before going cruising? I’ve been considering things like wilderness medicine, learning to sew, maybe basic diesel repair, etc.

    I'd thought about doing a more indepth video on an incident like those. Kind of walking through what I was thinking and how we approached solving the problem. But we don't have much footage of those moments because the last thing we wanted to do was get the camera out while we were going through them. We'll see if I can come up with some way to make it interesting.

I am thinking if its possible to work online while sailing. 130k is quite a lot of savings to have before even starting. Plus the Price of the boat. I guess most people would need some sort of income while sailing. How do you do that? THANKS for a really Great video.

    After all this years, how much was the maintenance in total, and boat value lost in round numbers...

  • @OutChasingStars

    @OutChasingStars

    2 жыл бұрын

    Let's do the math. $16,000 per year in repair and maintenance equals $68k over the duration of our circumnavigation (4.25 years). Over the entire time we've owned the boat it'd be $112k. And it's actually impossible to judge how much we'll lose in depreciation on the boat because we haven't sold yet and the market is changing all the time. But I'd guess well into the 6 figures.

  • @nonyayet1379
    @nonyayet13792 жыл бұрын

    I'm thinking, it's safe to say that the cost of cruising would include youtube and associated patreons, advertisers, discounts from advertisers and amazon commision/income. so what is the break down on youtube costs versus youtube, advertiser/s, patreon and amazon incomes? how did that offset your budget? if you would please. being a youtuber, i can't see how that can be left out and still be an accurate summary. otherwise, this was a nice summary. I liked your approach quite a bit, especially compared to most. I remember one that instead of avoiding the above mentioned (as ya'll did), flat lied about it. thank you for not doing so. part of my affection for ya'll is what appears to be inherent honesty (unlike a few youtubers). i know you skirted the subject, but if you'd please, give us a medical insurance/preparedness options summary, as ya'll have learned it. what was the value of your boat and it's assumed depreciation? I know some of these questions are assumed "private". but, in my eyes anyhow, by opening up your life to youtube as a business, and accepting patreon income, I'd think a certain amount of privacy might not be quite so private anymore. (similar, yet slightly different than political office). much appreciated, and again, nice video, as usual. thank ya'll.

  • @OutChasingStars

    @OutChasingStars

    2 жыл бұрын

    We actually don't do patreon or run any ads on our videos. Affiliate links have brought in less than $3k over the last 7 years. We've gotten a few discounts from marine suppliers but nothing very substantial. So overall, I'd say that "income" is immaterial compared to our expenses, which is why we didn't mention it. I'll look into doing a more in-depth video on health care. Maybe there's an interesting way to share costs/coverage. As we mentioned, that's a very difficult topic given the wide ranges in ages/health but also it varies _a lot_ based on what part of the world you're from and what options are available. US health care coverage isn't particularly awesome. As for the assumed depreciation on our boat, I've mentioned elsewhere that this is again hard to estimate given we haven't sold the boat and the markets are always changing. But I'm estimating we'll lose well into the 6 figures when we sell.

    If you walk around a room that means its a sphere? Sailing should prove the opposite. You wouldn't be able to use the stars as a reliable navigation if we were hurting and spinning through space while the sun and the galaxy was spinning and hurtling through space. There would be no fixed north star in the center

    Hi Steve. We're quite happy that we were able to put out so many "adventure" videos of our circumnavigation, but now that the entire thing is documented, we want to do something different. We certainly recognize that this new format won't be for everyone but hopefully there will be some information we can share that you'll find useful. If not, we won't be offended. There are lots of other channels out there still doing the adventure videos that we can all enjoy. 😄
