The biggest mistake i made as a teenager and early 20s was thinking, oh I can’t eat fatty meat and dairy cause that’s not good for me so I need to pound potatoes and chicken and rice. The way to get your calories without killing yourself every day is eating a lot of fat. Get the fattiest meat and drink heavy cream with your protein shakes. Eat eggs and bacon. The fat is where the size is. People who tell you to eat more carbs is what works for them and have no idea what works for a skinny guy with no appetite. Animal fat is anabolic people!

Eat more animal protein and animal fat and get a caloric surplus that way. But don’t be stupid and think you can build muscle by eating processed foods like sugary syrup, peanut butter and coco puffs.

Dirty bulking as I recall is when you eat fast food, bad fats (trans fats, vegetable oils etc) and processed foods because of convenience and accessibility. Dirty has nothing to do with caloric surplus. Surplus is already suggested in word 'bulking'.

Eat big to get big. I went from 150 lb to 230 lb, still bulking after 3 years.

Before I started lifting I was 170 lbs, ate like shit, prediabetic, 230+ cholesterol. I then starved myself down to 150. I began to workout and gained about 10 lbs in my first few months lifting. I decided to put on some real size and went on a bulk. I recently hit 200 lbs. I gained 50 lbs in about 1.5 years at 5’9 I’m cutting down to 180 because my cholesterol got back to 230+ from the milk eggs and beef I was eating daily

I went from 230 to 180 last year. Now I'm trying to go back to 200. I finally understand why gaining weight is difficult. Skinny people have a diet that has let them maintain a skinny body. They are in that habit. It's the same habit fat people have for being fat. Breaking that habit in either direction has challenges. I also think they expect to gain weight super fast. We all know losing weight sustainably takes time, but everyone things weight just pops on. Like, it takes the same amount of time, it's just easier to eat in a surplus for most people.

If your waist circumference starts to go beyond 40 inches (for male), then you’ve gone too far with bulking putting you at higher risk for certain diseases.

How about guys like me, who are 25% fat, BMI 25, so at the right weight/height ratio but not the optimal fat/muscle ratio? 😬 should I first loose some fat and than gain muscles or first gain muscles and afterwards loose fat?

In SS book, Rippetoe suggests people in your situation go on a slight calorie deficit, if that. Following the program will do the rest. Maybe make sure you eat quality, nutritious food too.

Don't everrrrr dirty bulk. Comes with all kinds of health issues and loose skin (ask Dr. Mike). Small caloric surplus above maintenance, .8 to 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight, some carbs and fats, hit each muscle group 2x a week and watch the gains without the gut.

This is the way ☝️. No need to put ourselves at a higher risk for things like diabetes and heart disease just to gain a small amount of pounds on the bar.

Hitting muscle groups is for pussies. You eat big, get big and then you can cut weight if you so desire and the end result will be you'll still be big and strong. The bigger and fatter you get the stronger you'll get and the stronger you get the more muscle your body will have to put on to cope with the higher weight. It's a much quicker strategy than doing some bro split
