    What about body weight? Are these numbers reasonable for a 50 year old male, 5'6" 160# with a spondy?

    Oh hell yeah!! As a 46 year old woman who hates to work out, my husband has drilled into me the value of consistency. I have complained 3 times a week for two years how I hate working out. I will never be someone who enjoyes working out but I enjoy the benefits of being able to walk for miles on my vacations, or carrying my 7 year old thanks to barbell training!

    What is wrong with watching youtube while waiting for the next set? That is what I am doing right now... in fact I like to chill and mix my relax time with my training (in my home gym).

    No, I’m sorry, the hard part is not showing up, the hard part is lifting a heavy ass weight for a 4th or 5th rep when you feel weak as hell 😂

    I’m 6’3” with long femurs.. to get to parallel or below, I have to pitch forward - even past 45 degrees to get that depth, or I can use a dumbbell or kettlebell that loads the weight in front of me…

    First time I hit three plates I was still in high school. There are a lot of weak men out there. I can't imagine doing sets with less than two plates in public. That'd be humiliating.

    It’s better to keep a neutral spine

  • @ThePhukst1k

    She’s using low bar and the general consensus I’ve found from the community is to do as described in the video, look a few feet out from the ground. Anecdotally, I use the prescribed method and I find it much better (for me) like the guy above said, it maintains a neutral spine. It helps me with focusing on the actual lift, engaging everything, and “pushing the earth away” oppose to lifting this heavy thing sitting on my back. In front of a mirror, I have a tendency to watch myself (taking spine out of alignment) if I’m not looking down and find this way more distracting than helpful. I know what my squat should feel like, I don’t need to see it. If you take a narrower stance, IE high bar, your torso will naturally be more upright. Haven’t squatted high bar in years as I could never find comfort with this lift, but I’d imagine it would have you looking farther out to maintain spine neutrality.

    If you herniated your disk from doing this then you had very poor form, weak hamstrings and other issues going on. This does not (repeat - does not) hurt you back squatting like this.

  • @jd0879
    @jd0879Күн бұрын

    I herniated disk doing squats like this. Highly don’t recommend driving your hips like that. Also your hamstrings are relaxing at the bottom, terrible for the back

    This really isn't a problem. Unless you are going to gym after gym, consistently adding more plates over time will grow muscle. It doesn't matter what number is on the plate

    Before I started lifting I was 170 lbs, ate like shit, prediabetic, 230+ cholesterol. I then starved myself down to 150. I began to workout and gained about 10 lbs in my first few months lifting. I decided to put on some real size and went on a bulk. I recently hit 200 lbs. I gained 50 lbs in about 1.5 years at 5’9 I’m cutting down to 180 because my cholesterol got back to 230+ from the milk eggs and beef I was eating daily

    405lb bench natural at 19. Main keys to hit it. - Consistency number 1 -Progressive overload week by week -Gain weight or be in a surplus will help massively -Look where you stick on the bench and work the hell out of the accesories. Example, if you stick halfway through the rep, work pause presses/spoto press/board press. Treat it like bench 4-5 sets right after bench. And finally -Listen to your body, any niggles etc treat your body with respect, take a lighter deload week if your having a heavy gravity day i.e 60kg feels like 100kg. Good luck.
