My friend Tim recently sold his 200k mile Chrysler 300 SRT and bought a used Maserati Quattroporte Sport GTS...what could possible go wrong? In all seriousness, this depreciated Italian 4-door brings gorgeous styling, a sonorous naturally aspirated V8 and athletic handling given its class. And we all remember when Top Gear compared this with the Aston Martin Rapids and Porsche Panamera Turbo. Enjoy this conversation with Tim on why he chose this car, some of the unique parts of it, and of course the possible things that could go wrong. Make sure you also check out my full driving review!

My porsche maintenance was fine until you realize your oil air separator has been freezing in cold starts... this caused bore score in every cylinder. My Maserati 3200GT had zero issues, and I mean 0. 12,000 to repaired when in reality it's a 1000$ cnc job. Moving into the Maserati Gran Turismo sport. There are things to worry about like the crank case gasket oil leak. You will find no real issues. With the old 3.0tt you are more likely, but the 3.8tt is a masterpiece. Brings me back to the feeling of my 3200gt 3.2l tt. My favorite option for the quattroporte is the gts but it's the 3.8. Now we have the new engine from the mc20. However I mist state the 4.2 version of that specific engine was made by maserati in 1997-1998. The 4.7 engine is indeed made by Ferrari. The 3.8 is in endless supercars. And yes it has a cross plain crank but it was designed and made by Farrari... but no, that setup is in no farrari. But the difference is negligible the ls series engines are made by GM and the engine is found in all different platforms. The Cadillac CTS-V and the corvette and the camaro all use the same engine, but all internals are completely different... so it's the same engine that's in the corvette with better internals, so... it's a gm engine and the maserati 4.7 is a farrari engine. For a list of engines just designed by maserati for maserati, Wikipedia has a list. But awesome information on the suspension bushings and how a wet and dry sumps operate... kuddos and thanks. BTW no car has ever matched my 3200gt not in power speed maneuverability, nothing. Only Hawabusa has ever passed me. I just doubled the boost. The gran turismo and quattroporte are luxury sports sedans. The 4.7 doesn't even have port injection it uses a air spray system so no injectors get gummed up during combustion. Less maintenance and obviously it's for older people... um light housings check the part number it's maybe 200 usd from another manufacturer. I have it written down somewhere. If you need that info, just message me here or Instagram @GreenMaserati

Fantastic car. Had a QP GT and ran it up to 80k miles with very few issues. That was my first Maserati on number 5&6 right now. A Qp6 and levante gts. These cars are special and have a major misperception around reliability and maintenance. My Porsche macan S and audi a8 had way more issues that any of my Maseratis...

Spot on. People still think of Maserati’s from the Biturbo years. QuattroPorte’s are unique in being a true performance salon/limousine.

2012 owner here, I loved the car from day one and after adding some mods it’s the best sounding thing ever. The reactions you get on the road makes you feel so good lol
Love my 2012 S. Great value, surprisingly reliable. In 20k miles and 5 years I’ve had a window regulator and water pump fail.
When guys see a jacked guy they say omg he's on steroids. When women see another beautiful women they said omg look at all her make up. It's the same for owning a maserati or jaguar. People who have never owned one will talk shit about just like the muscles they don't have or the natural beauty they don't have. Everyone talks shit. They're beautiful cars. Just take care of it and maintain it and you're fine
I agree 612 scaglietti is the only path ahead - that’s my next move for the family wagon
These cars are fabulous…I’ve had my GranSport since 2007. Maserati’s have a bad reputation because of all the Internet trolls who have never owned or have a clue. Anyone can pick these up, however, the maintenance is super high. Many people buy these and cheap out…so focus the reputation on those people who are being cheap…not the cars fault. Also, if you want perfection….buy a boring, cankle looking German car. Hopefully you keep this car for a while…you won’t regret it….GO CUBS….
The beauty of the Sport GTS is that it's a more approachable version of a car that's historically been difficult for people to approach. Compare this with a 2004-2007 model containing the F1 manual gearbox: a notorious system that is fantastic to hustle but is just impractical for daily driving and gets a bad rap for its replacement costs. That's a car that can be appreciated only for what it is - and it's reflected by a going rate of about $15k or under.

No; best years are 2011 - 2012 , because they changed a few elements of the water main, which became leaky over time - for example, the famous pipe next to the engine, access to which is terrible. Greetings from Poland.
I absolutely love these! FAR more special then the new fiat Maseratis that share Chrysler parts. They've lost their flair and panache
The key fob dates back to the original Quattroporte of this generation, which was announced in 2003. The Gran Turismo had the same key, which it kept until 2019. I'll give them credit for consistency.
Do the X pipe, I helped my brother put one on his gran turismo and it was sooooo worth the money! It sounds amazing.
When commenting on your model, Do you use the ‘S’ and ‘gts’ interchangeably ? I have a 2011 S
Congratulations. Great car

I have an 05 Quattroporte and it is a blessing and a curse. The owners before beat the shit out of it but I love it to death because I mean they look so good and the soundddddd
Need to shop around more. I've seen better prices on parts. I own 1
This is THE money sink car that I would own.
I love my 08 executive with all the work it needs… it’s mine !! 😂🤷🏽♂️😎
what could go wrong? everything that is on, under, front, rear and inside of it will go wrong. period.
Beautiful car, I do prefer the grantursmo.
Maintenance on exotic. What do you expect?
What's your opinion on a '07 executive GT with 96k ODO?
If I had to get a full size sedan for some reason, this would be the move
I like Maserati. I do think people low key like these cars but don’t want to admit it. I own a 14 sq4 ghibli and daily drives it. I really wanted a grandturismo.
Should I buy a sq 4 2015 with 50k miles at 19,999$? Really considering It or getting maybe a 2020 Alfa Romeo inline 4
Good indepth honest review Thanks for sharing good content, video, audio, commentary, demo Price of ownership on used Maserati instead of having a new car payment you a have a on going maintenance payment averaging $6k annually but you dont get this kinda exhilarating performance from plain ordinary cars.
@kurtjammer9568

I enjoy the experience. They handle really well..and the look and sound..very comfortable for long drives..for this you pay.maybe 3 to 6k a year or more on maintenance
The Maserati Quattroporte has a worse deprecation then the S-Class. It’s at 62-64% in the first 5 years then it’s the 7 series BMW the S-Class is about 4th on that list
Who else recalls when Jeremy Clarkson reviewed this car?? Nice one Eddie!!
PPI the way to go. Expect to commit $$$ PS: gorgeous ride
It's a Four door Ferrari.
I know these don’t have the best reliability, but I personally think this generation looked way nicer than it’s successor
Your engine has the variator fix.....GTS engines are different and so had "out of sequence" engine numbers - so the S in 09 had lower (much) lower engine numbers than the GTS .
My dream car besides aston martin rapide amr to be own
Oil change is usually 8000 miles. Did you really expect great gas mileage?
MSRP was 150k after taxes.
Nice looking yes, but if you're gonna' spend that much $$$ to maintain one of these, you might as well buy something like a mid-nineties 456 GT for
Don’t do the x pipe it makes the sound to raspy.
It’s all fun and games. Until something breaks and you have to pay for it out of warranty…
everything
Does Tim have a KZread channel ?
I have one do your own work save shit ton money . Buy a diagnostic scanner so u can reset brake maintenance oil lights be fine save tone money not going dealer. I only pay 160 for a oil change at home ect
Name of the intro song please?
