People have used drugs ast long as humans have lived, and making them illegal does not stop anyone from using them, addict or not. I could buy drugs easier than I could alcohol before I was 21. Children of mothers in prison are significantly likely to end up in prison than the children of men" It has already been proven by prison, school, college records that even children raised by single mothers in communities become less successful compared to single fathers. The problem started in 1980 as shown in the graph along the second wave feminism which debated gender inequalities and role of women in societies. Majority not "all" of those women in prison "chose" to be independent rather than be a wives which forced them to sell/use drugs. It's not a coincidence, feminism has and continues to DESTROY the societies. The traditional way worked well for CENTURIES despite a few problems which will always be there. Even giving the dads that are in jails the same way of taking care of their babies would help all families. Don’t lock up people that do minor drug offenses but put them in rehabs that cater to the needs of the individual that has drug addictions. Putting people in jail for petty crimes can lead to more problems than it can solve. There do needs to be some exceptions to different individuals that have a violent record that is attached to the crime or that of one who seems to have a mental health issue.

@garyxshorts your statement isn’t TRUE for ALL mothers who get caught up in using drugs of any kind! How do I know ow this? It’s because I’ve experienced it myself! I was 29 when I went through having cancer treatment for the 2nd time less than a month of my BELOVED DADDY dying in my arms of cancer whom was my mentor & my world along with my PRECIOUS BEAUTIFUL DAUGHTER!!!! Like so many others I got hooked on the pain pills because I’ve had over (35) surgeries & just DIDN’T wake up one day & said oh yeah I want to be an addict😳🤨‼️this occurred back in early 2009 & THANKFULLY I was caught doctor shopping & I went to jail for the 1st ever & before that I hadn’t even had a parking ticket!!!!! I pled into a EXTREMELY STRICT PROGRAM IN MY AREA CALLED FELONY DRUG COURT (aka D.C.) & that their SAVED NOT ONLY my life; but my daughters my now ex husband & to many other strangers that I could’ve killed while driving high on pain pills!!!! THANKFULLY I became clean & sober on Aug. 9th, 2009 graduated from D.C. on March 7, 2012 & have been able to still be clean & sober TODAY but NOT without A LOT of PAIN & HARD WORK!!!!! So again, if you don’t have a personal connection to anyone nor love someone who’s struggling or has struggled with addiction you & many others wouldn’t even come close to understanding this VICIOUS CYCLE of addiction!!!!! Before you ask YES I worked my entire life & before I got addicted to the pain pills I was a paralegal for (18) years & my BEAUTIFUL daughter was (17) years old & we did everything TOGETHER before I got addicted & THANKFULLY after I got my life straight she completed HS on time & also had the 2nd HIGHEST GPA in her grade!!!!! We now live TOGETHER as I’m helping her to raise my VERY PRECIOUS (2) grandsons💜💜Bottom line it’s wise to NEVER JUDGE ITS BOOK BY ITS COVER, just a KIND suggestion!!!!!

I will also state that I was born into a "normal" lower middle class family, with a skin color and sex that seemingly is more conducive to better opportunities, even though by every margin I am living right above the poverty line to this day. So I own I speak from a perspective that is probably biased since I don't know what it's like to be raised around drugs/violence/broken home/abuse, etc.
