It's equally difficult to make friends all over Europe and I'd say the closer the family ties, the more difficult to make friends, because people aren't as interested in having friends. I found it far more difficult in Greece than in Germany to make friends. When it comes to finding company, that's more easy in southern Europe, because it's more common to hang out in big groups and to spend much time outside and because hospitality is seen as extremely important. But then you also have places like Scotland that are quite up north, but people are very much into hospitality and company.

Because Greeks, Italians, Spanish and Portuguese normally we get along with each other more than German and English speaking country. In the south of Europe we don’t really trust the northern. The abuse of alcohol here is a thing. Generally speaking in our colture a person who is over drinking is not trustworthy. So the people from US usually we don’t trust them in the long run because we see that they don’t have self discipline with alcohol or other stuff, everything must be done to an extreme level. We don’t like that and is funny to hang around for some time but not to be life long friend because: “how I am supposed to trust you if you behave like that?”. This is for sure a generalisation but is deep rooted.

In southern Europe people live more on the streets than in northern Europe, for one simple reason: the climate. However, in the United Kingdom something very similar happens to what happens in Spain, we spend a lot of time in bars or pubs and it is easy to make friends there, but of course you have to speak the language of the locals. In any case, people from outside Europe must understand that except in large cities where there is a large internal immigration, it is normal for groups of friends to be made at school or in the park where we play when we are small children and We usually maintain that group throughout our lives, although new additions are added, the partners of the original members and their new friends. In an average Spanish city, coming not only from another country, but from another place in Spain, it is difficult to join a group of friends, except as a couple or as a work friend.

@carlos: there is also another difference. the Southern are more on the street yet doing less, while for instance if a German or Central European is there then they are more active doing and organizing different stuff. Most Southers are more 'hanging around within their rituals' (in tourist regions often also depending on the season) ...

It seemed to me that in Austria there are soo many unwritten rules to follow while socialising to not be rude, while Germany seemed a lot more to the point. Things like when are you allowed to open your presents and stuff like that. It might also have to do with the specific people I stayed with in the two countries.

7:36 that's probably mostly Germans who have lived abroad or from really small towns. Pretty much all of the Germans I've talked to who lived in the US for some time said that one of their biggest culture shocks was having the exclusivity talk since most Germans automatically assume you are exclusive after some dates or hookups. It is one of the few times that Germans are not direct. The Americans I know living in Germany (including myself) have been thrown off by this whenever we've dated Germans.

Just for the record, as a 66-year old American guy, who's been an expat in Europe for many years, it's important to point out that the current American trend of potentially dating multiple people early in relationships before going exclusive didn't exist when I was first dating my now ex-wife. At that point in the 1970s, we only went out with one person. So, it was relatively similar to France nowadays in that regard. After got divorced some 30 years ago, I was quite amazed that people did, in fact, date multiple people. So, the same culture can change.

All I know about Central Asia is that Kyrgyzstan has bride kidnapping, and the groom's mother lies across the threshold of the bride's room to prevent her leaving (stepping across one's body is considered very, very, very rude there) until she gives in.

In France the 1-to-1 date is more common than meeting in a group for my generation (GenY). Yes you can meet each other in a party, but then you exchange numbers and go 1-to-1 only. It is also possible to approach a girl in the street and try to get her number. The typical date (ou rendez vous) is to go to a café (boire un verre), where debates are welcomed, and have a little romantic walk. It is true that when you go for the kiss, it becomes an exclusive relationship. Rendez-vous is used for romantic dates as well as appointements depending of the context. "S*x" is a forbidden word and a turn off, we commonly use metaphors and little games. Your french videos are pretty accurate Marina, and I used them as a tutorial with foreign women :D. Thank you for all your videos!!

I'm portuguese and all my romantic involvements have been with foreigners. Remember being in the US for instance and dating felt like fishing with dynamite by comparison. On average every other european country just talking with a chick is easier too. Very surprised with the divorce rate statistic though. I wonder what that is all about.

My take on what she said about Portugal is that the men are not allowed to be men. Women are taking over even the science jobs so the men are seen as not as important and to be respected. Women won't follow a man they don't respect. Sorry that happened to you. I'm from the USA and had the same experience moving to South America. Finally got respect and dates.

But, we would love that our men would be less passive! 😂 Guys, have some initiative! 😂 Do a video on more babies being born out of wedlock than in wedlock. So you get a better approach to our "traditionality". 😉

@@Ed-xv4syThe rate is very high, yes. But I think the 94% is from pandemic times since people didn't get married beacuse they want to have a party. At the same time people kept on getting divorced since it is bureaucracy that you could do online even during a pandemic.

@@DatingBeyondBordersDon't take me wrong, I like your videos. But you keep hitting the key that Portugal is traditional. Eh, I wouldn't be so proud of being so independent and "non-submissive" when the marriage stats in the country are so bad. It's indicative of a fundamental incompatibility between how men and women are living their lives, and the fact that Portugese men were preferring to go with Expat women is another eyebrow raising observation.

As a Gen X American originally from New York, I do not believe it is common to date many people at the same time. It was frowned upon to date many people at the same time. People could only date someone else after the previous relationship was over. Of course, the rules would be different if the couple agreed to see more than one person. Overall though, I still think dating several people isn't popular. I do not know how younger generations date. And to be honest, I see Gen Z as a lost generation due to the fact they do not seem capable of getting off their phones longer enough to find a partner, kiss, have sex and a family. Dating apps are destroying dating. Sure it is easier to have a sexual fling, but a fling is not a long term, loving relationship. I remember a few months ago I saw a young 20-somethings having a dinner date in a good restaurant. They were both glued to their phones and never looked at each other. I was thinking it would have better if both of them stayed home in their own homes. It was quite sad. I will check out the other future videos about the nations of Europe

Gen Z roster dates because of ghosting. You meet let’s say 30 people on a dating app. You Snapchat them until it’s down to 10ish. You go out with 10ish, you date 4-6 seriously long term then you enter a monogamous situationship, then you become official. That’s dating now. Gen x dated back in the 1900s. Things are way more different now than even in the mid 2000s
