It’s actually called “allo” because “allo” is Latin root word for “other”. The opposite of asexual (“a-“ meaning “not”) is allosexual. Autism comes from “auto” + “ism”. “Auto-“ means “self” in the way that autistic people have their own personal way of thinking. “Allo” + “ism” became allism because it is the “other” way of thinking. The opposite of autism (“auto-“ meaning “self”) is allosexual. (this is just a friendly correction and explanation)

huh, cool! I learned something new! :D I did some of my own research and I didn't really find any correlation between allosexual and allistic. I'm a bit confused, not really sure how being autistic/allistic ties in with this sexuality

@@BBMacsWorld it's because "allo" is a greek-origin prefix meaning "other/different". allistic means "other than autistic/not autistic" and "allosexual" means "other sexuality than asexual/not asexual". so more like they come from the same source rather than the word allosexual coming from allistic. it's in-keeping with the tradition of greek prefix + sexual/romantic. although interestingly there's a high crossover (higher than what would be expected if there was no causal relation between the two identities, at least) between autistic and aspecs. im an autistic aroace myself. like, allo autistics are still more common than autistics who id as aspec but the percentage is higher than it is in allistic populations. all sorts of reasons why that could be. "allo" isnt a commonly used prefix (unlike other popular queer prefixes like "bi" two/both -> bicycle, bifuricated, "a" without/not -> atom, asocial, asymmetric, anachronistic "hetero" different/opposite -> heterochromia, "trans" across -> fuckin. so many. translate. transport. transition.) so the people who see the most use of it are queer people, autistics, and people in like, higher levels of study or whatever. it's used as a prefix in science sometimes i think, so it's not like autistics and asexuals are the only ones to use it, we just use it in casual conversation the most, so most people will hear about it the first time in the words "allistic" and "allosexual/alloromantic". also lesbians are still homosexual (or homoromantic if they're ace)! in this context "homo" means "same" (greek) rather than "man" (latin) so yeah they're still homosexual cause they're attracted to the same gender (mb infodump over we've got a linguistics nerd over here fr)
