Bart de Pau, the word implied by Amna (Pakistan) was "koetjesdag". It's when cows are released into the meadows after a winter in the stables. From pure joy, they will hop, gallop, run, buck around. It really marks "winter is over" happy times.

I think 'koeiendans' is more common than 'koetjesdag'. If you google it: 'koeiendans' gives 14,000 results, whereas 'koetjesdag' gives 225 results. The meaning is the same.

@@LearndutchOrg - wow this is etymology and linguistics in "Modern Times" (see Chaplin's movie). It happens about at the same time, but really not the same. "Koetjesdag" would have been the day when cattle got first released in spring after having been in stables for winter. The dance is what they do when they are released into the meadows. Which could happen repeatedly in a year if cattle had been kept in stables for a longer time repeatedly - for whatever reason. By the way, horses have the same response any time of year, so when an equestrian takes their horse out of the stables, they better make sure to have the horse on the rain or else the dance and gallop will certainly throw them off.

@@jpdj2715 Amna says in the video 'koeiensdag' and then 'koeiensdans'... after 'koeiensdans' I reacted 'o, koeiendans'. Both 'koetjesdag' en 'koeiendans' are correct words; one is literally the day and the other one the dance. Both are used to describe the joy of 'weidegang'. Yes, Google is a great tool to find out which words are more commonly used in texts (that is something different than finding out which words are correct and which words not).
Wow haar “potverdorie” klonk 100% authentiek
Knuffel. Sounds cute and soft
Swear words in Dutch are amazing, I speak 4 languages and in Dutch the swear words are still the best
My favourite word: kleuter! The reason this is funny for German speakers like myself is that while the same word doesn't exist in German, there are two words that sound very similar, 'Köter' and 'Klöten' (ö is pronounced like Dutch eu). 'Köter' is a derogatory word for a dog (you wouldn't call your own pet a 'Köter' but for example a dog that keeps barking and barking and driving you mad) and 'Klöten' is a body part... actually two...male parts....and the word is VERY informal. When I discovered what 'kleuter' means, I honestly couldn't believe it at first because I thought the meaning surely had to be something really nasty!

Klöten is in dutch the same and has the same meaning, but then written without ", thus: kloten - sounds like the airport of Zürich.

Hahahaha. A few potverdories tijdens typhuswerk always helps. I seem to use: "Vuil, vies, goor, irritant, pleuris ding!" when stuff does not work or fails to fuction. All in one go. It seems a bit long maybe, but it rolls nicely of the tongue. Most of the time I say it to digital devices. They piss me off the most. Could be a nice outlet for the guy the end.

Bahasa Indonesia has a lot of Dutch sounding words because they derive from Dutch. Introduced when Indonesia was a colony of The Netherlands. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Dutch_loanwords_in_Indonesian
"stropdas" or "goedkoop" They make more sense than the french and german words.

@@juliusfucik4011 - the tie is an old Roman thing and was worn by slaves to flag their status and their color might inform about their owner. Go to Sicily, to the archaeological site of Villa Casale and in one of the mosaic floors there's a portrait of the mr and mrs of the palace with a.o. a man in toga with tie on their side - that man must have been extremely important to them, but was a slave. Hatred against the tie in parts of the world, e.g. Middle East, stem from this history.

@@henriwolbrink - "Durchfall" is een platte vertaling van het Griekse "diarree": dia - door, en rhee - stroming. Of tele - ver, en visie - zien. Televisie is een beetje een bastaardwoord met het eerste deel uit het Grieks en het tweede uit het Latijn.

Ik woon nu bijna 10 jaar in Drenthe en struikel toch nog steeds over het woord "slim", dat in heel Nederland "verstandig" betekent. Echter hier bedoelt men ermee, dat iets erg is. Dat iets juist niet slim is, zeg maar. Je ziet, ook Nederlanders hebben nog wat taal "problemen" 🥴😁. Met elke provincie, streek of zelfs gemeente een eigen dialect of taal zijn we een echte mengelmoes...
Gezellig
Indonesian has many Dutch words: kulkas (koelkast), handdoek (handuk), maag, magma, etc.
het zou voor de afwisseling leuk zijn om eens een paar expats uit te nodigen die wel redelijk Nederlands kunnen, en ze dan in het Nederlands een aantal vragen te stellen

Kapot + Kaboom 🙈🤯
Kim, Canada - you have to replace "potverdorie" by "potvolblomme" and you accomplish three things: it's funnier even and it precisely rhymes to the original swearword you allude to and it is "salonfähig" (German loanword alert - salon is the posh reception room in your house where you receive/entertain guests that are important enough to you to take them there - think upstairs v downstairs - and fähig is capable).

Can you recommend a good, paper type Dictionary for students? Please recommend both the title of the best dictionary or dictionaries and where to purchase such learning materials at a reasonable cost? I feel it's necessary to have a good dictionary book. (I ask also because my Dutch language teacher doesn't want me to use Google translate. I'm sorry that we argued after class about it. I always complete the writing exercise first, in class, and only use Google translate to check my spelling with individual words. It is quite accurate this way and can easily be compared to the gemeente course book I have for class. Anyway, thanks for the phonology based lessons.)
