none of this made sense but all of it did at the same time. it wasn't even how you explained it, you explained it well, it's just the theory of god and reality and perception in acquinas's perspectives is so incredibly dense. man if all church did was this, i would go all the time. and not even because i suddenly decided to convert but just because i enjoy listening to the philosophical aspect that often finds itself in religion

Thank you for the feedback. Good philosophy should always lead one to God and bad philosophy away from Him. I pray that you continue to seek the truth and good philosophy. It's certainly a lot of fun to learn new things about ourselves and the world around us. It leads to a lot of questions and ultimately to some beautiful conclusions.

Would you be able to explain in-depth this part in Summa Theologica? Whether good is logically prior to the true? - Page 124 Article 4

Truth is an agreement between the intellect and the thing. I would say the model and the thing. If we use an effective model enough, it becomes our expectation, our reality. Absolute truths and relative, conditional, ........ An expectation is an implicit 'truth', truth in quotes because sometimes our expectations are frustrated. One person's absolute truth is another person's impossibility. Now in that previous sentence, 'truth' and 'impossibility' refers to evaluations of proposition, of statements. Evaluating something as a truth means relying on it as a basis for understanding and/or basis for some action. Evaluating something as impossible means it is something to be ignored and not taken to heart.

According to Saint Augustine the truth is what is actual. Which according to Aquinas is true, but inadequate.

Your truth and my truth don't need to be the same thing for us to have dinner together. 'Your truth and my truth have to be the same or l won't have dinner with you.' So you're truth and my truth differ. So what? I'm trying to say,..... Truth is opinion you live by and fight for. To call something the truth is just to say, to stress, 'My opinion is right and you should accept it as I do'. There is also reasoned opinion, where you give evidence to support your opinion/claim. In this case the the important bit is the argument not the claim. If the argument is found wanting, then the claim is judged pure opinion, mere assertion. If the argument is sound.....

You've properly described relativism which has been around at least since the time of the Sophists philosophically speaking. If there is no truth ultimately then life is meaningless. I'd like to continue this conversation as it's very important. Thanks for your comments.

@@thethomist I set for myself the goal of stating my correlative of 'If there is no truth ultimately then life is meaningless'. ( Is that the same as If there is no absolute [ultimate] truth then life is meaningless. ? ) That correlative is: The ultimate truth is that there is no ultimate truth. There is a lot more to be added to that and there is a lot to be explored in the other statement. If you are the 'thethomist', I will be the 'GeneralSemanticist', or maybe 'GeneralSemanticor'.
