What is this Weapon Presents: Antiques Gunshow with Ian McCollum and Jonathan Ferguson

Six firearms go head-to-head in this week's episode, as Forgotten Weapon's Ian McCollum and our very own Keeper of Firearms & Artillery Jonathan Ferguson battle it out to prove they can find the slightly weirder firearms in our collection.
If you had free rein in the National Firearms Centre, which weapons would you pick? Let us know in the comments.

that quote went on with "Or very incompetent ones that favour complexities over simplicity" and he's right the AK and it's family Mikhail created were simple in design and ergonomics. the AR family are complex and was built to tight tolerances. stress testing between the two systems have confirmed this. and price points match the Simplicity vs. complexity between them. with the former being very much a cheap gun but reliable.

@@112-DavidLI’m not sure the AR family of guns are really “complex” - innovative and a departure from prior norms, certainly, but mechanically the AR isn’t THAT complex. An AK has about 70 parts, an AR about 120. Sure it has more bits and pieces, but the operation of the device is not by any means convoluted - gas pressure moves the bolt back into a tube with a spring in it. That’s not all that complicated, surely!

Back in the early 1990's as part of my job in a theatre as an armourer, I used to hire from BAPTY &Co. One day, wandering the warehouse, I came across crate loads of cool Star Wars guns!! Many were rubber moulded copies but there were several full metal versions converted from the original weapons. When I got to the office, to fill in the paperwork for a truck load of Martini Henri rifles I was hiring, they took out a 'blaster' and handed it to me, telling me it was the actual one used by Harrison Ford! I have no idea if there were several of these, or it was indeed the only one, but it was seriously cool to hold it!! They had a couple of those BSA type converted blasters too, which I also saw, but didn't get to play with. What an amazing place it was to visit back then. Times have very much changed now and I'm not sure you can just phone up with an order and rock up with a van anymore!! 😉

The genius here is making a competition! While you two would be incredible podcast hosts, having a lightly adversarial dynamic at play feeds my deeply culturally ingrained Yank mind in cheering for a hometown boy to stick one to the Brits (a feeling that has pervaded British/American military sensibilities for neigh on centuries now).
