What I like about these is how I think I understand these common F1 race factors, but in reality only at the surface level. I don't care that these videos are few and far between, as long as they keep on coming. Good work mate
What a timely recomendation

Given the powerful undercut of the recent 2021 French GP, it might be worth re-releasing this video with fresh audio. The content is excellent, as always, but the audio detracts from it. I'm sure there are many recent fans who'd love the explanation of the undercut, I did!

Undercut also works if a faster car is stuck behind a slower car, but for this the faster car should come out in free air.
amazing representation of something i was able to understand but not imagine visually!
I’m so glad I came across your channel. I’m currently an engineering student and I love your simplistic approach to some of the diagrams you you have. Awesome job
I see this video is resurfacing again after the 2021 French GP
how in the world have the F1 ppl not officially hired you and your crew to win over more F1 fans with your amazingly brilliant videos! Thanks a lot. Keep it up!
Watching this after your latest French Grand Prix 2021 explainer on Verstappen's undercut on Hamilton... And my god the evolution!!! Keep it up Bear! Really awesome content since forever! ✌🏼
It's been so long Chain Bear F1! But you may want to consider changing the mic. Perhaps a Paypal donation or a Patreon is in order?
wonderful video. great information for visual learners, like me, that cant really be found on the internet. keep them coming!
whoa, I found your channel from your recent content and looking back into your past is crazy. The production value and video quality really improved alot. Pretty cool to see

well done, glad your back

AMAZINGLY EXPLAINED! THANKS!
Very simple & easy to understand explanation. Thank you 😊
I've just discovered you and I really like your content. Keep up the good work
Another great video! Your attempt to keep things simple and lucid for your target audience is clear, but maybe mentioning about the importance of track position would add value to the video while comparing among the 1,2 and 3 stop strategies.
wow, this channel has really come far :D
Yes, if you make a pitstop earlier you gain an immediate advantage and could possibly overtake an opponent - but then he will be very close behind you on tires that are fresher than yours. I can see it being advantageous on tracks that offer few opportunities for overtaking, but on tracks that let you overtake easier it would be a problem.

Nikola Tasev I see what you are saying and I agree, but running close behind the other car would slow them down a lot due to 'dirty air' depending on the track (especially at a track like Silverstone with lots of fast corners) and damage the tyres, so in some cases the advantages of the undercut could be neutralised or exaggerated based on the variables we both mentioned.
Thank you so much for your video's. It really helps me understand Formula 1 racing. Gets me excited about watching each race! Thanks!
you really need to make more, these videos are great!
Would love to see this video redone with all the improvements you’ve made to presentation!!
Excellent explanation. Amazed the strategy works so well in reality though, because intuitively I wouldn't expect the last lap before pitting on worn tyres (when leader stays out for the extra lap) to be particularly slower than the first lap after pits with brand new cold tyres (undercutting car strategy) that don't work at their full potential until a few corners in.
great effort! this explanation is easy to understand. undercut is very commonly used in motorsports that still allow refueling, and is proven to be very effective especially if the safety car out just right at the pit window.
You're amazing and this is a beautiful video.
By far the most under rated video on KZread!
Excellent explanation. Thank you.

You could take a look at judging the point to switch from slicks to inters ? Another good video by the way i really enjoy these

This is by far the best KZread channel for F1 lovers
great explanation
The disadvantage to the undercut, is you now have more worn tires at the end of the stint, if you do it more than one lap. Traffic sometimes comes into play. Not criticizing your explanation... Just adding it can backfire on a team...and sometimes does
I am from the future and I can tell you that you are going to hit 100K sub and your Channel is going to become the best channel for explaining f1 to new people.

Great Video.
Also someplace into the equation has to be getting tires up to temp. You would think that the guy coming out of the pit is going to be going slower than the car on the track because his tires are still not conditioned yet. No one ever seems to mention this
Your mic has improved a lot
Very interesting. Thanks.
A good point to note about the undercut is that it also avoids the need to physically overtake your opponent during the race. This also helps to reduce tyre and fuel use
Haha, even I was thinking about the integral and then you did it
awesome!! thanks!
More videos, please!
I feel the crucial point that is missed is that the undercut is actually designed to gain track position. If you stop earlier or later, depending on the condition at the time, your goal is to get in front of your rival. Its not really about total race time, because theoretically, two even matched cars will pull the same total race time in clear air, regardless of whether or not they make a stop on lap 20 or lap 21. After all, the second stint tyres will be more worn towards the end of the race if compared to your rival if you try to undercut him. Track position is the key consideration here, not cumulative lap time

I think you missed the point at the start of the video. It is explaining _how_ the undercut allows you to gain the track position.
@Av987
2 жыл бұрын
everybody knows that
Undercut may not work in certain conditions like if the track is quite wet, but drying, and the trailing driver takes a gamble and switch to slicks or intermediates earlier. If the track is not dry enough for slicks yet, he may end up losing time on his out lap. That's what happened in Monaco this year. Ricciardo could have used this to extend his lead over Hamilton (who was struggling with his Ultrasofts on his out lap) in Monaco had it not been for that pit stop disaster that cost him the win.
I know this video has been out for a very long time I just recently was able to see it after watching a lot of your newer videos I have new friends who are getting into Formula one i'd love to show this video is it possible to recreate the commentary possibly with better quality I've tried to show it on my big screen for my guys to watch it's very tough to listen to. Sorry if I sound picky if you can't do it no worries I love your videos ... Figured i'd give it a shot
Thank you!
Yeah good job!
Could you do a video about rubbering in the track?
@nbain66
7 жыл бұрын
Hakeem Karim It's just that rubber from the tires works it's way onto the track surface as the cars run over a race weekend. Rubber is grippy, so as more rubber is layer down, the surface provides more grip to cars running on it.
Great work, great videos, but please improve your audio quality.
Okay, now I have to ask what you do for a living to explain things this well. . . So. . .What do you do for a living?
What I want to know is which tracks inspired your unique track design :)
Is the degradation of the lap times due to tyre wear linear or exponential
Hey just a tip. ( I don't want to be that guy but i found this really useful) I'd update the thumbnail !
The undercut back when there was refuelling would be pointless. Your tank would be very heavy weighing you down. The car with the much lighter fuel tank would be able to keep that lead, perhaps extend it. Tyres don't really matter as the fuel compensates
This video sbould be done again with better audio in context of great season we have now.
This is why we need refueling back to counterbalance the effect of the undercut.
this will boom now
I like this video a lot, but you could think about redoing it with better audio...
This is brilliant content! Could someone send this to Ferrari please?
Educative video, but the sound quality made it very difficult to make out what was being said.
Thanks to Bahrain 2021 this shows up to my feed!
Thanks for subtitle Indonesia 🔥
Insightful content , you sound like a wise old turtle in the video. Not exactly a bad thing.
So what about the fact that the undercutting car will have one lap older tyres for the rest of the race. I struggle to understand how that doesn't do more damage on the long run.
Ferrari needs to watch this
you always love the pink car :| :D
I hope Chain Bear considers re-recording the audio for this video. I can barely make out what he's saying :(
Do you have a history in an f1 carreer?

Yes he is Jenson Buttons mechanic for BAR.
Your videos have always been amazing. I feel more a part of the sport thanks.to the understanding gained through your videos. But the audio is a huge downside, I'm missing couple of words in each sentence and is putting me off. Please consider lowering the bass.
Bring back the jokes.. Nice job
So then, why don't all teams go for a 3 stop strategy, pushing like hell during each stint?
I get it that it puts you ahead the car you are chasing and wanting to overtake, but are you not racing against everyone in the race, so some drivers will go ahead of you. Anyone care to explain please, Im kind of new to F1
