* The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism is a 2007 book by the Canadian author and social activist Naomi Klein. In the book, Klein argues that neoliberal free market policies (as advocated by the economist Milton Friedman) have risen to prominence in some developed countries because of a deliberate strategy of "shock therapy". This centers on the exploitation of national crises (disasters or upheavals) to establish controversial and questionable policies, while citizens are too distracted (emotionally and physically) to engage and develop an adequate response, and resist effectively. The book advances the idea that some man-made events, such as the Iraq War, were undertaken with the intention of pushing through such unpopular policies in their wake.
Some reviewers criticized the book for making what they viewed as simplifications of political phenomena, while others lauded it as a compelling and important work. The book served as the main source of a 2009 documentary feature film with the same title directed by Michael Winterbottom.

as an Indonesian, the Jakarta Doctrine hit hard. if you know our history, the state of Indonesia you see today is the safest most prosperous it's ever been. ever since independence, we have been marred by genocides and authoritarian dictators that the rest of the world doesnt know millions have died for the right to say "I disagree". if i were to say this at any point in our history, i'd be a gonner. either dead or disappeared

How do you have a documentary called "What is the Shock Doctrine?" and not mention Naomi Klein? She literally wrote the book on it and coined the term. Maybe a little less theatrical drama and a bit more substance about the actual subject.

Oh my God, I am as an Indonesian citizen, have almost never heard of the term of " Jakarta method". this has indeed been well designed and hidden from the public, until now many of our people still consider Soekarno and Suharto to be national heroes even though they have committed atrocities against their own people. I hope the world can learn to respect differences.

Like Society won't let you live a happy life alone, they will push you to a state that you're not perfect. So if you want to be perfect you need to buy their products, get advanced technologies, Cosmetics, whatever they sell . But the fact we forgot that everyone is perfect in there own way. Be a part of a society otherwise you will be labeled as weirdo. Who formed this society? Why we want to be a part of it ? Society is a framework designed by capitalist pigs who wants to make more money from you. These people will squeeze every single bit of freewill you have.

This program should be expanded to at least 30 minutes to do it complete justice, for the topics covered are critically important to know and understand, if the world is to become a better place, in at least our personal interactions with other cultures. We cannot brush one group of people with the same brush. There's evil in every country's leadership. Right now, Russians seeking US asylum in Tijuana, Mexico, are being denied entry, while Ukrainians are not. Individual hatred, ignorance, and all the rest instilled by a gov't, in this case, the US only serves to divide us further. Sadly, the divide and conquer strategy is their common tool, and humanity falls for it every time.

Putin’s big fear is regime change wherein he ends up like Gaddafi. He will not give in & many more will die & he’ll level Ukraine in the process. The world had better not listen to just the USA - the greedy will be like vultures on the remains of Ukraine then rebuild grabbing the resources (oil, gas, agriculture & anything else of value). I know the risks of Other nations doing this as well exists but just maybe a coalition of the European, UK & her former British Empire countries like Canada - which has the 2nd largest number of Ukrainian diaspora in the world will stop the USA from wholesale looting of Ukraine. I am nervous as a Canadian as I have witnessed for 63 years of my life my government generally siding with the USA. They said no for a short while to Bush when USA attacked Iraq but eventually gave in. Right now the big risk is Putin being pushed into a “nothing to loose situation - for him personally” putting all of Europe at risk. Scary times!

Thank you so much for making this great episode~ on this topic, here's my take. In Chinese, a crisis is called Weiji, which could be explained as disaster and opportunity. That means it could be better if you deal with it well. But if a country is fully suffering from any kind of disaster without any benefit in return, someone else is taking all the benefits away

US installed a new regime in Pakistan in April 2022 allegedly with the help of Pakistani establishment. Its November 2022 now and there has been so many arrests, tortures and forced disappearances since then. The regime has been trying to supress the voices of people who spoke against it. Ex-PM Imran Khan fought back by inspiring public protests and marches to call for snap elections but was shot in a public rally last week in a failed assasination attempt. This video is so relevant to whats happening in Pakistan right now. US has a bad habit of installing and supporting cruel and currupt regimes and armies around the world. I hope peace and sanity prevails eventually.

I like your videos, I have watched many with interest! At the beginning of this one, you say, “My Father got to watch 911.” I am still deciphering that statement, as it is an unusual way to… term someone witnessing the deaths of thousands, and the horror of witnessing people jumping from burning, imploded buildings to their deaths. Then you move to the unrest of other peoples, due to this event; without once mentioning the absolute desecration for those families, civilians, innocents! This gave me pause, as it seems this is of no import, compared to what happened as a result. I believe this was not your intent, so I continue to support you. However, if I am mistaken in your intent; know this… Whether perpetrated upon us, the American People; by our own factions, or those outside who wish to do us harm, we will discover truth! We are not capable of just letting things go, as it is our nature to hold each other up; as well as accountable. We search for the answers presently, and what is revealed will be dealt with by ALL. It is never our intent as a PEOPLE to overstep our role, unless of course; we are in defense of an attack upon our brethren! If countries allow their citizens to hate us, attack us, loathe ALL of us; without truly seeking US, the individuals… then we must do our best to ensure the safety of US from those threats. However, we are not blind! We see what the efforts put forth have gained, and question the divisions made. Know that Americans are not always in agreement with the decisions put forth, nor the actions taken. Know that Americans are striving to take back the control once held by the people for the people. We are asking the tough questions, and finding the answers for ourselves. This is not however an invitation for those with our demise in their thoughts to take action toward that end. For in that regard, we, AMERICANS will quickly and decisively find the one thing we do agree on… OUR safety above ALL else.

I really don't consider myself a "shock". I am a mom. Different and crazy? - Yes. But just a mom and private individual.
