What is the purpose of education? | Future Learning | Nobel Prize Dialogue Seoul 2023

Ғылым және технология

The future of learning will be a significant factor in shaping the future of humanity and our planet. As our awareness of the enormity of global challenges increases, it is vital to take time to consider how best to equip ourselves, and future generations, to tackle these difficulties and build a better world. What do we need to know, and how should we learn it? This Nobel Prize Dialogue will seek answers to those questions and more.
What constitutes an ‘education’? This question lies at the heart of the dialogue and will be considered from various angles: what do we need to know, is there an optimal balance between fundamental and applied knowledge, how does education differ around the world today and should we be adapting learning to meet future needs?
Technology is changing both the practice and focus of education. What does the rapidly developing relationship between technology and learning mean for the way we will learn in the future, and do the demands placed on us by the technologies that surround us threaten to undermine our ability to learn?
Access to education is a basic human right but how can we ensure a more equitable provision of resources, both between and within nations? What part does gender play in determining educational status and, given this meeting’s particular focus on Science and Technology, what do we need to do to promote and increase diversity across STEM subjects?
The Nobel Prize Dialogue Seoul 2023 is produced by Nobel Prize Outreach AB in cooperation with The Korean Academy of Science and Technology (KAST).

In my opinion, education is a process, a lifelong process, that everyone can associate with goals, aspirations, work, and leisure. The point of education to create a smart workforce and cultural diversity of equality.

THANKS for such a great topic and very difficult as well to define. Our bodies grow well is a natural observation by just normal food intake. Our mind is expected to be going better and flexible and confident as not being called illiterate is one thing. Other is developing will to do better in some fields and contribute to society development in diverse fields that is now essential. Thanks.

According to me education should be a tool to make you capable of thinking. The purpose of learning should be to make you capable of learning by yourself and to ponder and enquire about what you are learning.

14:37 I couldn't agree more that education today only prepares people to work or make money. Education is more than that!

The title was great, but the information are not quite well. As a professor and Nopil prize they should give more and more knowledge. I don't get any new information!

RULE #1 IN EDUCATION: NEVER NOT ANSWER AN HONEST QUESTION. Thank you for a great, and an immensely important topic to be discussed by very worthy individuals, but: At the end of the dialogue, a young woman asked what countries were perhaps some of the most successful, or provided, perhaps some of the best education, according the basic, new universal criteria most agreed on - but: There was no answer. Nobody attempted to answer the question, from the young woman. And that is a: Fatal error, discrediting the whole dialogue - as: When a young person asks a question, whether at a dialogue gathering, or in school - not answering the question, or attempting to answer it, but to ignore it: Kills the soul of the whole purpose of the dialogue. ///
