I hear this all the time, ppl taking this verse out of context and I, myself, have been guilty of the same thing before.

My husband is a pastor and this verse is something he has to explain all the time.

There is a special feeling when you are gathered in your home church with others that have hearts as full of gods glory as you are. It charges your being you feel it physically.

1 of the most taken out of context verses ever. A senior Pastor at a local mega church (restoration movement so not surprised) used this verse at every funeral he did, I explained it to him like you did here and he just shrugged it off. Also saw local reformed church misuse this on social media, surprising. Then saw it on a frame home picture at Hobby Lobby. Too much milk, not enough meat in 90% of our churches. Great video.

this passage/video like many bible's loose sight of this from the many translations published which water down word meaning. it's sad that $ made from publishing countless new translations each year dictate our misguided interpretations.

I have been waiting for this Question.. Although i am aware of the context .. i still love to hear..

I took this verse out of context forever. That is until my pastor helped me understand it.

The timing of this is amazing. Does this happen in mega church’s? No I have a Biblical accusation and asked for three pastors to meet with me about it to determine if I am biblical in my accusation. I tried to talk to the Pastor first, set up a meeting and he was a no show. Saw him at church after and he ignored me. I know the process. The 3 never even acknowledged my request for a meeting to talk about it. Stonewalled. It was the Holy Spirit who told me to bring to light. I’m not going to attend a church that Shepherds like that. Nothing would come of if. Nepotism. They been together for 20+ years. My only concern is how many others have been treated the same? God sees and that’s my comfort.

When read from verse 1 all the way to verse 35 you get a clear understanding of what Out Lord Jesus was talking about. Talking about the greatest in the kingdom, the lost sheep, temptations to sin, here from 15-20 talks about if your brother sins against you, and the unforgiving servant. So now sin is in the midst of all three parables how did Jesus deal with our sin, by God's great Mercy and Grace on the cross.

Matthew 18:20 previously written, "Where TWO OR MORE..." Why was this changed?

I have a question. Supposed i married a woman against church law. So, there are some church law like i could not preach in the church gathering .. so my question is am i also bound in heaven (means if i die during this period will i be ignore by God in heaven)??

This is so confusing I always thought if we pray in 2 or 3 Jesus is there with us and not in church discipline I thought this verse was for healing?

So this is not about gathering for prayer meeting or fellowship? Where we can find specific verse except this one in Matthew 18? Until now lots of evangelicals different sect still used this verse as prayer meeting or church service fellowship.

Interesting. I could see where churches like the LDS could use the same context and issue church discipline against a member. I could see these Mormons feeling righteous and biblically cemented into their decision to ex-communicate a member for, let’s say, the member refusing to believe that they will be their own gods of their own world someday. Ex-communicated according to Matthew 18.

So this verse is not about healing????

If I were to believe this explanation exactly as stated, it would remove the joy I have always felt with the verse.

Interpreting Bible verses incorrectly just so that you feel better is wrong. If your emotional experience is you goal then keep doing what you're doing, but if you're actually a Christian and you want God to use you then learn to study the Bible, in it's proper context. It's simple really, pray to God while reading it and the Holy Spirit will quide you and teach you.

Be encouraged. People in a Biblical church who truly study their Bible are not only united in their understanding of the Scriptures, but united by the Holy Spirit of God through the Scriptures that are revealed by His Spirit. Some may differ on non-salvation issues, but all God's elect are united and not on a different page, but the exact same page, the pages of Scripture; God's Word. Just need to find yourself a good biblical church with Godly men as leaders to see what I'm talking about. Keep looking and pray that God would lead you to a church where God is honored and He will help you. May God bless you. 8-)

He will help you. And try to remember that this life is just a vapor; it's less than the blink of an eye compared to eternity. Persevere for a short time, and the Lord will take care of you forever. Don't know if that helps, but again, all I can offer in a forum like this. By the way, I can relate. I have dealt with a chronic sickness all my life. I understand suffering, discrimination, mockery, isolation, and etc etc. All that comes with suffering. Keep your chin up and your eyes as well. ;-) God bless you to better days.

This is before the cross. Is it applicable now? Is it not speaking to Jews under the law? After all the new covernant church for the gentiles wasn't in place. Only Israel was spiritual at this point in the flesh according to the flesh under the law. The letters apply to us by our apostle Paul. So most importantly does this teaching apply to us. I feel there is an interpretation error presented here. Interpretation of the word " church " does not only apply to the body of Christ and how problems should be handled during Jesus's ministry, The mainstream Christian understanding of these verses does not fit the time frame of which church we are considering. The Greek word ekklēsia, which came to mean church, was originally applied in the Classical period to an official assembly of citizens, so the word application can be broad. Exodus 12:6/ Numbers12:3 to name a few in the old Testament. This is supported in Acts 7:38 which states: He was in the (assembly) in the wilderness, with the angel who spoke to him on Mount Sinai, and with our ancestors; and he received living words to pass on to us ) The wandering Israelites were not Christians but they were considered a church ( ekklēsia,) So what was considered a church in the life of Jesus's ministry what would he have in mind when mentioning the church? It stands to reason the entire nation of Israel was still considered a church as a nation with its judiciary system with judges in place to handle cases that could not be resolved between individuals. It couldn't have been the Christian church or the body of Christ because it had not yet been established, the mention of the body of Christ's church would have been completely foreign to the listeners in Matthew's account compared to Paul's description of the church or body of Christ. It must be noted that Jesus did make mention that a different type of church would come into being in the (future). Matthew 16:18 supports this: I tell you that you are Peter, and it is on this rock that I {will} build my congregation, (church) and the powers of hell will not conquer it. ... And so I say to you, you .. ) The handling of disputes would still apply between individuals but could escalate now to involve the newly formed congregations or church with its body members (Pentecost forward). This arrangement did not exist during Jesus's ministry. The judges or ones hearing cases within Israel's judiciary system still stood and they would have been considered a church in themselves, the size of the church is not the key factor. I believe Jesus was giving instructions in this direction that the Mosaic justice system was still in place and to use them (church ) to handle unresolved disputes. until the body of Christ was formed. Matthew 18:18 supports this thought that the Jewish judiciary system was still to be used to administer justice and decisions as its effects were binding in heaven and on earth. ( contributed )

I'll be real direct here: everyone including this person is wrong... The KJV bibles are being supernaturally changed since at least 2015.. All of them, going back to the 1611's... Has everyone forgotten??? It used to say "where two or more are gathered in my name" TWO OR MORE, never two or three... It amazes how pastors, who should have these words in their hearts don't see this.....two or more folks

No, they use their own twisted version of the text. NIV is the original scrolls by comparison to their "bible".

The NIV translators didnt omit any verses. They simply left out the writings that aren't found in the older manuscripts. Verses that were more than likely added in much later by someone other than the original author. The NIV translators also include these "missing" verses as footnotes at the bottom of each Bible page. I hope this helps.

Actually, the Jehovah’s Witnesses use the New World Translation. But I totally agree with your assessment of the NIV, a.k.a., non-inspired version.

🤦🏻‍♂️does no one realize that this scripture said "WERE TWO OR MORE ARE GATHERED IN MY NAME" .. not 2 or 3... unfortunately there are MANY MANY changes in the bible. By changes i mean that they have supernaturally changed. Such as the LORDS prayer has changed in Matthew. The parable of the new wine has changed. From wineskins to bottles (which did not exist in that time)JESUS healed the man at the pool and told him to pick up his mat and walk now has changed to pick up your couch(the word couch did not exist) Isaiah 11:6 no longer says that yhe lion shall lie down with the lamb it has supernaturally changed & now says the wolf shall dwell with the lamb... Even the word corn is now in the bible over 100 times...(corn was only called corn in the past 300 yrs if that not to mention corn was unknown until the discovery of the "new world" and was called maze...🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️ Among thousands of other changes. I beg anyone that reads this to plz look into what is called the mandela effect bc like it or not my kjv bible ive had my entire life... And your bible no matter how old HAS SUPERNATURALLY CHANGED

You are absolutely correct. I distinctly remember the word wineskins being used, and was floored one day to see the word “bottles” for the same reasons that you stated. As you also mentioned, there are many more changes that don’t make any sense at all. The enemy is pulling out all the stops, and is doing whatever he can to cause confusion and delusion in these last days. He can only go as far as his leash will allow him, though.
