What is the Forward Party? | What are the views of the Forward Party? | Forward Party Explained

Ғылым және технология

In this video we take a thorough dive in the mission, core beliefs, and platform of the newly formed Forward Party.
The Forward Party (FWD) is a political action committee (PAC) that seeks to form a new political party in the United States. The Forward Party was founded by former 2020 presidential candidate Andrew Yang in October 2021. The Forward Party's goal is to provide an alternative to the two major American parties. However, for the time being, candidates affiliated with the organization will remain members of the two major American political parties.
In the video we take a brief look at the 6 core principles of the Forward Party:
- Ranked Choice Voting & Open Primaries
- Fact-Based Governance
- Human-Centered Capitalism
- Effective & Modern Government
- Universal Basic Income
- Grace & Tolerance
We also look at some key elements of the Forward Party's platform:
- Term Limits
- Data as a Property Right
- Stopping the DC Revolving Door
- Democracy Dollars

Not always, but, before elections, I try to get contact information so I can ask questions of the candidates. I mention things I think are problems and ask what ideas the candidates have about how to solve the problems. Or I offer suggestions and ask the candidates to tell me what they see as the advantages and disadvantages of my ideas. How many voters do you suppose do that? If not many do, is that because voters are more interested in candidates' dedication to a specific ideology than in the candidates' problem-solving skills? I suggest that, if voters are more interested in the candidates' ideology, it is not wonder Congress and state legislatures consist mostly of people with few or no problem-solving skills.

As a 13 year old Cuban American Anti Socialist extremely into Politics as I also want to join the Military, I am gonna choose the Forward Party as my party of choice, I strongly agree that Capitalism is the way of life in the USA, and I strongly appose the US Democratic Socialism, %50 of Young people that are between the ages of 13-30 support Socialism, while the other 50% Support Capitalism, but I see that a lot of American young people are claimed to be Socialist which is a big problem of these kids getting brainwashed into thinking that the socialist ambitions way of life is real when it’s actually not. So I’m also want to influence other teens of my age to join this party when they get older, I also see that I agree with most of the conservatives like my dad, and that I do not agree with neither Republicans or Democrats, I want our military to be stronger, but we also need peace as that is the most important for humanity life to exist. True your not wrong but the problem is neither side can agree on how best to tackle those issues, that or neither side wants the other to get a W because they dont want to be seen as weak to their supporters. That is what the Forward Party is trying to fix so that politicians regardless of their political affiliation can pass laws and legislation that everyone can get behind and properly address those issues you mentioned through civility, deliberation, and colaberation without being influenced by lobbyists or pressured by their parties agenda.

I consider my self a Forward Independent (registered non-party voter) because I do not identify with any of the major/minor parties along the politcal spectrum since they are all more or less the same in ideals and policies in varying degrees along the spectrum. The Forward party is where I feel I can legit get behind because right now nothing is getting done and the federal government is at a stand still or too busy with trying to beat one side or the other while the res of us suffer and the Forward Party has a clear and tangible goal to reform how our government functions to properly represent us and to tackle the root of this toxic division and that is our very own voting system its self. But most of all is bringing back civility, deliberation, and collaberation with political parties to make effective legislation that everyone can get behind.

The Forward Party Plan is missing one HUGE needed structural reform. Gerrymandering is the biggest reason our government does not reflect the will of the people. Winner-take-all districts are what make gerrymandering possible. With winner-take-all districts, up to 49.9% of the voters are left with no one to represent their views and values. The solution is this: in addition to ranked choice voting, we need multi-winner districts, say 3 to 5 winners per district. With multi-winner districts, the vast majority of the voters would have true representation for their views and values and gerrymandering would be impossible. Winner-take-all districts are not required by the constitution, only by a federal law enacted in the 60s. It can be repealed. Without multi-winner districts, it will still be extremely difficult for third parties to get elected. This plan is fatally flawed unless we get rid of winner-take--all. Otherwise, it sounds great.

First 3 are unlikely, the whole point of UBI is to not be means tested since that's what puts a stigma on it and also disincentivizes economic growth. Btw iirc the forward party removed UBI as a core tenet, basically it's not left or right (all the policies you mentioned are liberal) just trying to solve the polarization and other issues with the US democracy so that problems get real solutions, they're not an ideological party so in that way they're open minded but also considered "spineless" by ppl who want to push an agenda of policies that are partisan.

Moderate Republican looking for something new. I like Yang but many of these require massive structural changes to society so I am doubtful. The yearly income, for example, depends on stopping Social Security and other welfare programs and this will have enormous opposition. Lobbyists are desperately needed. Legislators do not have time to read reams of information on every bill. Someone has to explain technical details of weapons, long-term effects of "free" programs, agricultural, mining, energy issues, health care. It can be former members they know or corporate lobbyists but someone will have to do this.

You did a good job describing the core principles. I’m all for a new third party - there has to be a better way - maybe transition ours to a parliamentary democracy, like Germany where a collation of parties governs, instead of winner takes all. But I don’t agree with ‘universal basic income’. Income is to be earned, not entitled. The Forward party will lose a lot of hearts just because of this. Please drop this one - I guarantee you it’s a very bad idea….

TBF tho UBI not just here int he US but other parts of the world are in their experimental testing stages in small controlled groups its not a bad concept but it does need more refinement and tuning depending on the country before it can be used effectivly and I believe it can work and has the potential to get rid of welfare programs all together saving the government money. And you could make the argument that UBI will make people lazy or go out and buy drugs and booze in excess to that I say yes there will be a small percentage of people who will do that but the majority will use it properly as a foundation not a be all end all thing. Also since pandemic the need for UBI has increased for example those covid checks we got helped me so much with the essentials and what I need. To sum up UBI is not welfare nor is it an excuse to stop working instead it serves as a foundation for the life we want to make or maintain and more than likely something to opt-out of anytime another form of UBI is where you get a specific amount every month depending on your level of income.

I like some of the ideas, even read the book but my concern is someone who represents the party will have social political views that are so dramatically different than mine that i won’t be able to support them in good faith. Because the forward party is officially mute on many of these issues, it could lead to some pretty extreme differences of opinions.

The PR types phoned that one in didn’t they. How about the ‘American National Party’, the ‘United Federal Party’, something with a bit of kick. There’s got to be better ones out there. As someone who supports breaking the 2 party system I am all for more parties. There are many stances I support here. However I feel this party is a bit tone deaf. The party members I've seen so far are moderate insiders from the main parties + Yang. The base that that normally wants to support 3rd parties isn't centrist. They're either far left way further left than the dems or they're libertarians and while there's alot here that can bridge the gap between libertarians and far left. The main audience of this party is gonna end up being moderate Republicans who hate what their party's become meanwhile the moderate dems are firmly in "blue no matter who" bs. All this to say the Forward party's downfall is gonna be that it's targeting the wrong ppl and is made up of a handful of names no one remembers the name of + Yang

Well most of the Forward party platform makes sense (rank choice voting and term limits), exactly how to bring that about is in doubt. Frankly it does not serve the powers that be to change anything. To change that, the Forward party is better off serving as a pact to give money to those candidates that can bring about change...then become a political party in their own right. Plus, talking about comprise now on such things as abortion rights and gun laws would only solidify the party standing in the future.

It sounds good in theory but I feel like the media, social media, entertainment industry and people in general positions of power are still very liberal. They have the general public misinformed about certain issues or scared to vote conservatively. It's too much of a risk right now. The U.S. population are too hateful to have that much control at this moment. They need to be regulated until they can come to their senses.

I like this but I did find two issues. Term limits would increase the amount of former government officials who become lobbyists which clearly isn’t the goal. Only way to stop that would be to get rid of lobbyists. The second, I see no clear stance on todays hot topic issues(guns abortions etc). Not having a stance will make it hard to win voters who are passionate about those topics.
