    I have synesthesia and this video made my day! Seriously though, this stuff fascinates the living crap out of me. Frank's voice is honey or earwax colored with a texture like bubbles in pancake batter. The "Head On" track at the end has a pink sub, yellow detuned sawtooth lead, with sky blue drums and tuned percs while the woman's voice is like purple taffy.

    Yo Frank, you said that frequency and wavelength are directly proportional, but they're actually inversely proportional, so you might wanna put in an annotation so people like me wont whine about it. sorry to be "that guy" lol. btw awesome video, it reminds me of purple

    While we're at it: you said the speed of sound is lower in water. actually it's about 4.2 times as fast in water compared to air. :D

  • @ABitOfTheUniverse

    @ABitOfTheUniverse

    7 жыл бұрын

    Speed of sound in water: 1,484 m/s Speed of sound in air: 343 m/s 1,484 m/s / 343 m/s = 4.32653061224 ≈ 4.33 times faster ZiP, I'd heard 4 times, but remembered a more precise number, so when you said 4.2 I decided to check for myself. If anyone is more curious about the speed of sound in water, like sea water (because I tend to think of whales and dolphins communicating through sea water when I think of sound in water, or submarines pinging things) then, there are three big factors to consider: depth; which impacts pressure, salinity; which influences the density, and, temperature; which also affects the density. And, since pressure relates to density as well, well, it's all really about variations in that, for the most part. There are some really good online calculators out there to adjust all those variables, but given all the other variables besides salinity are the same, sound is going to travel even faster through sea water than through water. It's not a lot faster, 1 to 2% faster, 1500 to 1520 m/s, but if you're a dolphin in a pod organizing an event, or a whale communicating your mood to other whales far on the other side of the ocean, getting that timing right might make all the difference between being at the party when everyone jumps in the pool or not because you missed the bus.

    There is only one problem with this theory. The way we process sound and interpret pitch is fundamentally different than the way we process light and interpret color. We associate pitch with the fundamental component of a sound wave, and untertones gives timbre to the sound. As for color, we take into consideration the pattern of the whole spectrum. Here is an example: saturation of a color is tied to how clearly defined components we have, and desaturation (gray tones) are associated with a more distributed spectrum. Now the same kind of a white spectrum, in sound is called "noise". Noise and white are to very different sensations. One associated with chroma/saturation, the other with an unpleasant sensation. Also, things like the color magenta don't have a correspondent in the light spectrum. But every frequency in the sound spectrum can be a fundamental component, meaning every perceived pitch maps to a specific sound frequency.

    10 years since Frank's last vid. I walk through the empty streets trying to think of something else but my path always leads here, in front of my computer. I stare at the screen for hours trying to summon Aesthetic. I try watching other channels but it is all meaningless. The end is near. I then rewatch some of Frank's old videos and cry myself to sleep.

    How is it possible that a speaker send out one single wave forme and we can hear a whole orchestra plus singers, different BPM ore Hz at the same time?! A vibrating guitar string can send out one tone, but not tow at the same time... Also on a Vinyl, a 2D vibration can save all this different noises in one up and down movement? What is relay going on there, can you make a video ore send a link Thanks for your awesome channel, don't know if i learn ore laugh more:)

    You can "add" multiple frequencies. So if you for example have a 100 Hz and a 10.000 Hz wave and they are combined, the 10.000 Hz wave "moves" up and down with 100 Hz, so it is like one wave moves up and down with the other. Hope this helps

  • @augusto7681

    The wave is very small so all the sound is compressed there. You can open an edition program and zoom in the spectogram of one audio file you can see they look like mountain and valley and inside them have more little curves and more tiny valley...So everything is there. An interesting fact is that if two instrument play similar pitches one can cancel the other because their "moutain and valley" is too similar.

    It's not like sound behaves differently when there's more than one pitch. There's still a single waveform coming to your ears when you hear a choir, hence why you hear the choir. The speaker recreates this waveform that hits your eardrum and plays it back and that's how you hear multiple voices out of a single speaker

    thank you good sir, i'd never drawn those correlations between sound and colour before. one could also assert that this principle can be applied to the architecture of a building; you'd be living in a song!

    There is an up and coming 18 year old named Andrew Luce. His songs/ popular remixes have a very similar process of remixing a song, coming up with awesome harmonies/melodies, a break, then a totally separate melody/harmony with a totally separate, slow down trap resolution to the ending. It's relatively easy to break down, but your videos are fucking hilarious and you're a great teacher and I think you could do an amazing tutorial if you're just wanting a topic to make a video for. He has several remixes like Day n nite, birthday sex, baby girl ( a new song remixed of a childish gambino song, my personal favorite). Keep making dope ass videos for music and science and what ever the fuck inspires you man!

    This all b.s right???? I' like, shitting myself because this is like, the funniest thing to watch at 2:00 am. But like, as a music major, this is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of. Who like....spent all their time figuring this out? I love this. I honestly would love this more if it was just b.s, but I can't even tell because it's 2:00 am and I've eaten like, eight bowls of cheerios and I just. I cannot. Love your content.
