It’s a Mustang. You get a 6-speed. My daughter who is fifteen is learning shifting gears as it’s important for us parents to teach our children these skills. When you’re shifting… you have little room to text and drive.

This is a great topic.. now, as a 2021 Mach 1 owner, getting the manual with the Tremec was a no brainer..it’s just a different league guys sorry but getting a Mach 1 automatic is just nonsense… on the GT package and on what it offers I wouldn’t mind opting for the automatic 10 speed as the MT-82 is known for its poor quality and issues, I have also own a manual 2016 mustang and gotta say… the difference is there so in conclusion I would say if you are opting for a dark horse or Mach 1 get the manual, PERIOD argue as much as you want.. if you wanted an automatic go for a GT or GT500 if going for the GT the 10 speed is actually not bad of a choice.

I had a feeling you were going to come to that conclusion. A stick even makes a "lead sled" more fun to drive, let alone an American muscle car.

Yeah, the autmatic is crazy fast off the line and when passing. I think the stick is a lot of fun, but I don't know that it is the same off the line. If I lived in the country, I would love the stick, but I'm in constant traffic and construction, so the auto is more relaxing to drive.

Thank you for swaying me back to the promised land. I love my manual project car even in city driving or in horrific LA traffic but my daily truck is automatic and it's so comfortable that it made me consider a new project car (2018+ GT) in an automatic for comfort & speed test comparisons 😅

The trick in LA Traffic, as someone who was putting 25K on his car every year, in a Mustang, is to drive like a truck driver. Pick a gear, stubbornly do that you need to do and ignore the gaps getting larger and smaller. Shift as few times as you possibly can. Stay in 2nd gear unless the car is literally at a stop. What kills people in traffic is trying to drive like an automatic and keep nice orderly worker drone gaps. This will kill your legs. On my commute from Pasadena to Santa Monica every day, I think my record for the fewest shifts coming back in heavy traffic was 6 shifts. The gearing is tall enough that you can basically drive in 2nd and 3rd 90% of the commute if you absolutely have to. And obviously avoid 6th. lol. I don't even know why they put that second overdrive on the thing - it's the easiest way to get carbon build-up as it seriously lugs the engine to squeeze out a couple more mpg. Unless you are on Interstate 5 going 75 mph through the central valley, don't bother even using 6th. I absolutely DO recommend getting a solid mount bracket for the shifter, though. It will fix the problems of the stock shifter. It adds a little noise and vibration, but I think the car already has about 200 lbs of excess padding and sound deadening in it as it is. I appreciate quiet, but mechanical noise is always a good thing in a real muscle car :)

Tacho 100 kph is in real ab 94-95 kph. So 0-100 kph in AT this car make in 6+ sec. I made it in 5.9 sec in my manual GT using GPS mesurement. Not impressed so much with stock engine, very long transmissions and sluggish gearbox. But the sound is mindblowing esp. in drag or race mode.

It is fine. Mine is on its original clutch at 126K miles. 5 years of it was in LA traffic, with half of the commute going across the Hollywood hills every day. The transmission is fine as long as you don't race it or power-shift it too often. You DO need to be gentle in first. Get it moving and move into 2nd, and THEN apply lots of power. You will be doing closer to a 7 second 0-60 time, but the car and clutch will take zero abuse. In Los Angeles, this still will put you practically in people's trunks. Traffic just doesn't move fast at all, ever. I also put a short throw shifter bracket in mine to fix the 3rd gear lockout issue. It was only really ever an issue on two specific places in Los Angeles - 1: The 5 to 110 connector going south. Sharp right turn (no more than 80 ft or so diameter) that dumps you into uphill traffic. And a similar unramp (lol - not a typo) from Highland into the 101 north. Steep uphill troll that dumps you into the fast lane. Getting locked out of 3rd was upsetting the few times it happened. The shifter kit fixed it immediately.

@@magnawaves A new performance oriented car should be able to shift into all gears cleanly without issue. My 2023 gt would lock out of or grind at 4k-4.5KRPM when going from 2nd to 3rd gear and It did this a lot. Every other gear combination at any other rpm and it shifted like butter. Aftermarket shifters/clutches will void your warranty. I was able to trade up to a 2024 10 speed performance model. Some folks will get stuck with their purchase though so I'm here to warn others. Beware of the MT-82 Ford will blame you!
