Let´s imagine we´re flying from Frankfurt to Gatwick. So prior to our flight, me and my captain meet up in the briefing area where we gather all important information for the flight to England. Information about any possible changes at the departure and destination airport, maybe a taxiway is closed, maybe an Instrument Landing System is out of service or enroute navigation aids may give false information, and of course we check for the weather.
Once in the aircraft we have to perform take-off calculations to get the necessary take-off speeds and power settings. But therefore we need reliable and accurate weather information. So at one point we´re going to consult the so called ATIS. Which stands for Automatic Terminal Information Service. The ATIS is a continuous broadcast of recorded aeronautical information of the airfield. On all airport ground and approach charts you´ll find the necessary ATIS frequency. Yes the ATIS is transmitted via radio. So you tune in the appropriate frequency and then you will hear this:

Great movies dude, your work is amazing. keep it up :)
1:20 that Is exactly what I was doing. I write down all the information about the stuff you post. Thank you for posting these videos, I love them!
Well done Captain Joe, thank you for your videos! They're very informative!
I still love listening to you Captain Joe, thank you✈️
Außerdem finde ich deine Videos echt gut und interessant weil das Thema Flugzeug ja doch die ein oder andere Frage aufwirft. Mach weiter so!!
4 years old but commenting to keep this amazing video circulating. Thank you for helping during my act oral practice on why I am saying what I am saying!
Thank You Joe. I'm surely saving this video for further reference. Bless up
You really go into detail! Thanks!!
Great, great, great videos, Joe! Regards from Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Thanks for informative video, lots of new jargon to know!
Captain Joe... Thank your for your informative and very educational video series. I am not a pilot, I am too old, but I am an aviation enthusiast and you make it easy to get questions answered. Safe flying...

I like your videos. All are effective. Thanks for this.
I really needed this Video because I am flying To Paris "LFPG" From Frankfurt "EDDF" and it took me an hour to Set up my MCDU for the Navigation Radio tuning. This is what I needed to help me for my future aircraft that I will be flying.
Nice work Captain, thank you for videos
You’re a huge help and blessing during my studies to become a certified pilot.

Loved your videos Captain! Was wondering if you could make a video explaining what the signs in taxiways mean.
How do you understand what the ATIS is saying??! I replayed the whole message several times,, had absolutely no idea there was dew point and pressure information until you started explaining it bit by bit!

Agree. Cuz I'm not the person with English culture(I'm South korean), all ATIS messages and ATC communication is hard to understand :( JOE you are so kind for all of us to explain that message!

Why can't they just use Google voice? Would be easyer to understand
Thanks Captain. Very informative!
Great movie! I work as a meteorologist at one of the major Polish airports, and we also have ATIS terminals on our meteorological station. I can say that, situation when ATIS messages is published only every 30 min are rather rare, only when weather is stable - especially when we have pure CAVOK :)
great video, I learned a lot thank you
Thank you for the ATIS. Great captain
u r a great instructor
Very good information. Thank you, Captain Joe.
Amazing video Captain
Quite informative. Aye aye, Captain! . Regards from Brazil.
Hi captain joe ! simply love all your videos. can you please explain the procedure to start the jet engine both without FADEC and with FADEC
thank you very much :) captain Joe
Great job bro....
Parabéns! Ótimo vídeo!
hello cap>>>>>>>!!!!!!!!!! great job.. liked this a lot
Can you do a video on why they are speed limits at certain altitudes? Is it possible for an airliner to get a fine for speeding? Thanks! Love your videos 😁
thanks for sharing. i will share it
For some reason I really love the ACARS, can you make a video about ACARS in detail?
:) you are a pilot everyone drools over haha. Really love the videos. I love planes, and this is some cool information that not many people know about

l like your videos, they are very informative as well as educative
Very informative. Subscribed.
Merci beaucoup!!!!
Thanks captain joe
Thank you very much
This is actually interesting. I am a pilot in the US and I always thought knots, feet, etc was universal. I haven't ever piloted an aircraft outside of the states, but that would trip me up good. Good to know. Also, I would add the ATIS information can be used by ATC to catch pilots in BS'ning :).
Great vid! One thing though: QNH is not local air pressure at the field, that's QFE. QNH is local air pressure corrected to the MSL (by the runway elevation), otherwise your altimeter would indicate zero when on the pavement.
Amazing!
Hello ! Thanks for this video :) Can you maje one about CPDLC, ACARS, etc...
Nice example to explain little more complicated ATIS informations. Thank you now I understand everything. :-)
can you make a video about how to became a pilot easily i was inspired by your videos as they use them in flight training in ethiopia
"Showers in the vicinity" - applies to most airport with some lounges... ;-)
could you make a video to explain the jet stream (how wide, thick it is and wind seep in it) thank you, love your video Very good.
Hi captain Joe. I'm really enjoying your videos. Very informative and nicely created and taped. I have a question about the use of rutters and trim on aircraft? Thank you

+Bazle Ali Abidi Thanks for your comment, yes I´m working on the answer to that question ! Greetings Joe
You forgot to mention the NOSIG shortly before the end of the transmission. For all who want to know: This means NO SIGnificant change (of weather information expected within the next 2 hours).
Great videos and great production. Have you piloted any planes equipped with auto-land? How does it affect your duties during landing? Is it unnerving to use it in a reduced visibility situations?
@ZK-APA
2 жыл бұрын
All ILS cat III approaches have to be with autoland. The Airbus A320 and the B747 both can do autoland so yes most probably he has done it. In terms of duties, its more of a monitoring role and take control if something doesnt work out
Hi there. Thanks for all these great videos, explaining lots of "secret stuff" from aviation. At the moment I am to silly to solve the landing in Singapore on MS Flight-Simulator (because of bad weather :-) ), but it makes more and more fun. Can you make a video with a school-like landing with explanations what's happening?
Awesome !!,
i like your videos very much! it is very useful. but sometimes it is very hard to hear you since the music in the backround is pretty loud...
Joe explain for us how to plan a flight and what is SID's and STARs and how does anti-skid works
Captain Joe, can you explain all procedures and plane controls involved in take off
can you show a video about pitch trim
captain joe, can u make a video about, what will be the duty of the pilot in an emergency situation see for an instance a complete engine failure..
Do a video over pay/raises and pilots rankings or what pilot school is like

please add a video over the engine start and the cockpit information before a take off . hope a response from you soon........
Heiliges Lottchen, die ATIS-Ansage müsste ich mir aber 5 Mal anhören bevor ich rausgefunden hab was man mir sagen will ;) Übrigens, schöne Erklärungen, daher lass ich mal ein Abo da.
Richtig gutes Video! Mega interessant, und du motivierst einen, Pilot zu werden! :) Hast du eigentlich schon die Termine für deine Präsentation an Flughäfen rausgegeben/festgelegt? Wäre in München auf jeden Fall dabei :)

Hi Joe. Can you make a video about tires, brakes, tire pressure and gas and ABS system on the airplane?
I learnt everything about aviation from this man.
which is the best school to get commercial pilot Licence and what's the eligibility?

can you explain ATIMS(Air Traffic and information management sytem) ?
Awesome.
Captain Joe, can you please explain what the APU bleed is? Thanks.
Joe how do you anticipate the yaw (weathercocking) in a crosswind take off or landing. Is this by feel or do you have a set input into the rudder to help keep aircraft straight. These are always intersting landings in a storm. thanks for the videos.
Hiii Captain joe great video again very informative thank you, i am working for being a pilot just passed my DLR exam and want to ask you sth how do you use crew resource management(CRM) procedures on your daily operations and rutines?
@flywithcaptainjoe
8 жыл бұрын
+serkan kıyar Good question, with a long answer, maybe I can make a video about that in the future :) Greetings Joe, and congrats on passing the DLR exam :) !
Hey captain, can you explain about the runway lights
If I got it right, you mentioned that runway 18 in Frankfurt is only for departures - generally, as I got it. Seems somehow legit to me. Maybe you'll want to explain that in a future video. Maybe in a more general manner regarding flight paths.
may I ask do you take into consideration the curvature of the earth when planning routes and in flight? If the curviture is 9 inches per mile squared.
Captain Joe you have stated that some long distance flights fly over 35000 ft. I have had the honor and wonderful experience to flight as a passager. My question: How high can a plane go until there is not enough oxygen to mix with the fuel?
How often are the airplane tires changed? How long do they last? What is the composition of the tires?
Hey Captain Joe, can you please do videos on the difference in approach and design between Airbus and Boeing aircraft e.g. A320 vs B737, A350 vs B787, auto thrust vs auto throttle, yoke vs side stick etc? This is a request all the way from India.
Wonderful 👍🏻 # how could you determine the correct data used between between ATIS and D-ATIS?
Hello Captain Joe, excellent videos, can I ask you a question, how rotates the plane on the ground to get to the track? Thanks!
@flywithcaptainjoe
8 жыл бұрын
+MauroLH44 Great question, I will look into that! Joe
Nice video
Love the video's :) but i've always wondered. On approach why can you configure an Airbus (don't know if this also applies for Boeing) for landing with flaps 3? And why not just land with full flaps?
Wow! I really like your videos! I am 14 and I really want to become an airline pilot. I play a lot X-Plane 10 to train, and I want to begin to learn a lot more about planes (I only know the basics, ILS, how to startup a 737-800, taxiway, takeoff, landing..) But I know anything about radio communications and I have to learn a lot more about the airport charts, and all the abreviations and vocabulary. I have to improve my English too ^^ If you have some advices for me, it could be good! Thanks!
hey joe i am a very avid flight enthusiast and i have a question...What causes an engine surge and what does the plane do in response to combat the surge?
Not a real pilot but this video really helps me with VATSIM!!
Until recently, I could hear this on FM radio / TV universal receiver. (127.70 megahertz in my area). But the signal was very low bandwidth and weak, and therefore required a roof antenna. The speech is very hard to understand if she stresses every word, above what would be necessary even if the message was assembled from individual words. After listening several times, I guess "cow send" really means thousand.

cow send....lol I also heard bird lock
Joe, can you make a video on transition level.
Make a video of how the app helps in starting the airplanes engine and provides electricity.
