What IS THAT? HOW to add a grounding strap so you don’t get SHOCKED!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I always wondered why so many trucks out in the oil field had these straps hanging down from their trucks. Well, I found out why.
In this video, I show how I add a grounding strap to my truck. This is to help prevent me from getting shocked when I get out of my truck and close the door. It helps reduce or eliminate the static electricity build up in the truck body by discharging it to the ground.

There are normally two screws in the grab handle area in a car/truck door (unless it's one with the grab strap). If you're touching one of the screws as you get out, you don't get shocked. Actually, if you're touching pretty much any metal surface as you get out, you're fine but the screws in the grab handle are conveniently located.

It has been my experience that most newer vehicles have those screws covered by a piece of plastic. Even my 2003 Ram has them covered and the whole grab handle is plastic. The Chevy work truck I’m currently in has plastic grab handles. The Ford work truck I used to drive was also the same.

@@JayRays1truck pulling a small piece of plastic out of an unseen area seems like an easier fix than attaching a grounding strap to the bottom of a vehicle. Hell, most people lose or break the covers the first time they take their door apart, anyway. That's how I happened to stumble upon this "fix" for getting zapped.

@@TheCharleseyeperhaps, but the bolts are well over an inch down inside that plastic on my truck. I had to use a small extension and socket to reach the bolts and my fingers are too large to fit in the holes that the bolts are in.

🤣 You bought the marketing pitch, hook line and sinker. All these do is show how old the driver mentally is. The truck comes with four rubber grounding pads from the factory; they are called tires. If you have a static problem, its not the vehicle, it's your clothing, which can't be resolving with auto bolt-ons.

Actually, the four rubber pads you speak of are meant to isolate your vehicle from ground and make your ride smoother. But perhaps I’m wrong. We shall see. For $6 it’s worth a try.

@@kookiethebearI’m not sure if this will do good or bad for my truck, but for $6 I’m going to find out. I don’t enjoy getting shocked when I get out of a vehicle so if this works I’m good. If it doesn’t help, I may remove it later. Who knows?
