The question that is crystallising in my mind is 'Is Augustine's Neo Platonism the cause of the Greek sacred-secular dichotomy that has characterised Western Christianity for the most part of 1600 years? I ask this because of just how huge Augustine's influence was.

That applies to Gnosticism - Early Christianity’s freak-show attempt to mould the metaphysics of Platonic polytheism into Abrahamic dogma - not Neoplatonism.

@@60SPH cheers man. im only briefly mentioning him. Its on Existentialist Philosophy and Transcendence and mysticism. I'm beginning with Platonism as the kind of radical split between immanence and transcendence which we find in Western Theology. And how this was incorporated into Christianity, As Nietzsche said, Christianity is Platonism for the people. I'm arguing for a more kind of mystical and non-dual approach, more Plotinus based. Which I guess is neo-Platonism. Im reall focusing on Meister Eckhart. But I was always confused about what was neo-Platonism and what was Platonism. I think I was calling the Christian Platonism neo-platonism, but is that just Platonism. Ha if any of that makes sense. Does neo-Platonism have a radical split or is it more that everything is one? Thank you

Moderns who react smugly against dualism do so from inside an unprecedently wealthy and secure cultural bubble created by the Industrial Revolution, unable to imagine the desperate daily struggle to survive that has characterized our species entire history. We see the body as a site of agency and pleasure, while for most humans it was also a powerful site of vulnerability and suffering, for the elites as well. Our body positivity is not a moral evolution but a material exception.

Perhaps a wonderful unfoldment for Religious Science/Science of Mind (SOM) and A Course in Miracles (ACIM). Sadly humankind took the basics and formed them into indivialized Religions to separate us. In a world attempting to be one size fits all, this is Heaven. I give thanks to those who remind me of who I AM. I appreciate your 60 seconds 😃

I think it has similarities to Christianity. The "One" is God. The "Neus" (if I spelled that correctly) is the Holy Spirit. The soul remains the same although in Christianity we refer to Jesus Christ as the divine soul. And of course, in most religions (including Christianity) good works and studying philosophy (or philosophical perspective on your religious text i.e. Bible) will get you closer to God.

Yes but tecnically the Holy Spirit Is not a force nor a thing it's a Person donatists (a mostly oriental based sect) if i'm not wrong said so they thought that the Spirit was a created force and thus were declared heretics as they diminished One of the foundamental aspects of the trinity and it's role. At least that Is by a scholarly theologic point of view (such as mine, i like to keep separate my personal views when It comes to descussing and argomentating knowledge for lack of a Better term) than neoplatonic thought was very popolar in christianity nonetheless so what ever floats yo

If anything it sounds alot like the gnostic sects of christianity. The one or the monad The neus being similar to Sophia (wisdom) who emanated the demiurge or the soul that 'created' the material universe.
