What Is My Lizard Brain? | Self-Regulation Lesson 3

Join Dr. Nagler and his Lizard friend as they explore the science behind our amygdala. Learn how it works, why it sometimes gets in our way, and how we can help calm it down.

MINEOLA GROWS is building a “Learner’s Guide to Learning.” When students understand that they are in control of their brains, they are empowered to learn, to grow, and to seek out challenges for a lifetime of learning. Mineola Grows helps learners foster this skill through an understanding of age-appropriate neuroscience. Our collection of video lessons, in-classroom activities, and Professional Development are based on over a decade of research and exploration into Growth Mindset best-practices.
Mineola Grows is a project from the Mineola Union Free School District and is, of course, always growing.

This production quality is great, I hope your channel grows. I borrowed Liz for a short moment in my last video to illustrate a lizard brain metaphor, with attribution of course. :)

I am a 33 year old man who just learned from a show aimed at children that I have been misusing the term 'lizard brain' for years. I thought it was referring to the survival instinct to pursue the things to keep us stable like eating, finding water, and shelter- being blown out of proportion by human brain processing to be less about survival and more about pursuing a constant feel of 'need/want'.
