i have put all most used pens and markers to the test to see if they are waterproof and how they react on different paper types because i like to add watercolor to my doodles!

I’d love to see a similar comparison of different opaque white pens, as I’ve struggled to find good ones.

Even your handwriting is perfect! I could listen to you talking and watch you painting (& doodling!), all day 😁
This video will help a lot of people doing art and not just watercolor. I see this question a lot in the different creative groups I am in.

Thank you for the video! You are the doodle queen!
This is a great thing to do just to have on hand so you can pick which thickness of line you want and the depth of colour.
Thanks a Ton. This is really helpful! And yes, I also would be interested in white pens....
This was hugely helpful, thank you so much! If you are looking for similar topics, I second others' requests for your thoughts re white pens, and also re which black or white pens work well on top of paints. Thank you again, you are amazing and we so appreciate your time, efforts...and talent! 👏
I miss seeing you paint a piece in watercolor. This is very useful too but I truly learned a lot seeing you paint regularly. Thanks.
I didn’t realize you’re from Montreal, I live just outside Halifax. I enjoy watching your videos, there are artists in my family, I can’t draw or paint anything that is supposed to look like something particular wether people, scenery or any other type but I just might try your style, I do like doodling. I make my art with thread and needle , sewing machine and knitting needles right now. Take care, be safe and well🙋🏼
What is your favorite WHITE pen? My tips always dry up after one use!

good question! i like the white Posca paint marker and the Uni-ball Signo No. UM-120AC.1. this one doesn't seem to dry up or clog up as much as its counterpart, the Signo UM-153. but since it's got a finer tip, it is also not as opaque but does a good enough job.
Waterproof ink is important for pen and ink work. But for loose painting, bleeding ink pens are fun. They can make hard lines on dry surfaces, soft feathering lines on damp surfaces, and turn into shadow color when dragged.
Thank you for doing this. Such a good system for testing all the pens 😊
Thank you so much for sharing! Love your style!
This is a great video and very helpful. Thank you for putting this together!
So helpful and also encouraging to give it a go! I really appreciate you, Cee Cee!
thank you - this really was helpful - doing the work for testing would take time and patience and you've done it all for us!
I hadn’t thought to chart this. I will have to do this soon. Of course, I do not have the variety of pens that you do.
Thank you so very much. I was just about to invest in a waterproof pen for my watercolor art, and didn't know how to choose a pen. This was super helpful! 😁
Thank you for the demo video twin!! You're the best!! :) Wish you a wonderful and creative week ahead! Please stay safe and healthy! Artsy hugs! xx
I found this very helpful in making a pen purchase decision. Thank you!

Me too! Thanks Cee Cee! I too could listen to you all day:)
I use what I have - due to Covid I really currently have no choice, we can hardly import anything! - so I have a wide range of sizes in black only of the Mitsubishi uniPIN fine line. A fiber tip that lasts very well and writes for a long time!
Thanks for doing this. I have so many of these pens.
Great test! Thanks! I was very surprised by a few of these! I have been really impressed by a ballpoint pen I received in a manga nib set, a DaiDai from Zebra. It looks unimpressive, but it writes like a dream and is totally waterproof. I draw with them often!

Very helpful video, thanks as always!!!
Hi Ceecee, i just watched this video again. I was working on a” big “ project and would have used the wrong pen! I had tested a few but did not have anymore of the same paper, so i was hesitant. Then I remembered this video! Thank you, you saved me from catastrophe! Have a good day !
This video comes at exactly the right time! I have been watching your doodling for a while now and just this weekend I decided to sit down and try my own doodles only to realize that I don't have appropriate doodling pens. I thought to myself, what pens would CeeCee use? I was going to search your previous videos for ones on which pens to look for and now I don't have to! Thanks.
I want to start to draw and paint again. This topic help me a lot. Thank you.

So very informative. Thank you
This was so helpful! Very interesting! Have you ever tried Sakura Glaze pens? The ink is very shiney and is raised up a bit from the paper to add dimension! The doodles done with these pens resemble heat imbossed images. My favorite is black, of course. Amazon has them. I appreciate you CeeCee! You are my "go-to" girl! 😉 Keep creating and sharing!

Great test! The first two might be fine for small sketches, planning or practicing. But use a higher quality wayetproof if working on a gift or final piece.
I really like pens.
Great information, thank you.
Thank you Cee Cee!
The way you said "Arches paper" made me think and I felt curious about reading the very interesting history of this paper and papermill. I live not so far from Arches (pronounced in French without saying the E and the S 🤗) and never realised this papermill was so old and so famous in the world. Thank you for your videos. I enjoy them so much.
Thank you, really useful info!! Is the Uni-ball Signo DX a gel pen?
This was really helpful...thanks for sharing! I know you have spent time doing mixed media work as well. Do you have a favorite pen for writing on top of acrylic paint?
Thank you so much for sharing this, I am always on the look out for non bleeding (waterproof) pen/fine liner!! You are the best!! What are your favorite watercolors to use??

Hello Judy, thank you for your comment! I use several brands of watercolors. It is really just a question of which color I need and what is available (as long as it is artist grade). I will be doing an updated watercolor case video soon. Stay tuned! :)
Great info. I have problem with the pens writing over watercolor.
Hi Ceecee, I am so glad you made this video. I have wanted to know for once and four all what is waterproof and what is not in black pens. Though I have most of the pens discussed it was fantastic to get some real proof taking into the account the type of paper the ink is written on. I agree completely in choosing the fine metal over traditional nibs. I tend to write or draw by pushing harder than I realize and after trashing several fine nibs, I tried some Ohto pens of metal and absolutely loved the effects of a)not ruining another nib and b) getting crisp, dark line. Thank you with all my heart. XOXOJane
Thank you for the video! Is the top row ball-point pens, and the bottom row felt tip? I have just given up on felt tips, and so I am greatly interested in the other ones! 😊
Too gud u r.. and ur videos r a great help too..!!!❤️

my pleasure! at the moment, i've only tested them over watercolor paints which, of course, is no issue. i've not tested on acrylics or inks
Looking for colors like brown, purple, blue, pink in a broad or medium point gel pen that will work with watercolor any suggestions who makes those colors? I don’t always want to use white or black. 😉 thank you!
🌱💛 Thank you.
It's interesting to learn which pens people prefer, try, and dismiss. I use Pentel's Sign Pen for jotting down memos/notes and for casual/mindless doodling; I order a dozen from Amazon. They perform like a fun combo of the good ol' Papermate Flair felt tip pen and the Sharpie we all know, but of course being felt tipped they don't smell strong like the boozy Sharpie. Sharpies, though useful, seem to always get ink on my hand, and the point gets worn down too quickly. I always end up with a little box or zipper bag of Sharpies that have been deemed _too stubby_ for my taste, lol. And standard Sharpies tend to bleed through paper, depending on which paper you use. Of course they don't bleed through marker paper like Bienfang's Graphics 360 pad with its recognizable black cover. Anyway, The Sign Pen's line is fairly thick, like a standard Sharpie's. Mind you--- the Sign Pen is not permanent, so it will smudge if you glide over its ink with a highlighter or a color marker. I find that this pen is nice for cartooning-- as long as you keep the work black and white. One more: A cool permanent pen for doodles and drawing is the Sharpie S-Gel which is retractable (a plus in my book because I needn't uncap it ... I like just "clicking" a pen and being able to use it instantly) and it comes in different line widths/thicknesses. I like the 1.0 bold tip.

I think I bought a dud pack of Signo Ultra Micro 207s. I did a water test on the and they bled, not badly but still visible. I waited 24 hours and then it only bled slightly, a tiny bit of grey. I read the package again to make sure I didn't miss something 😂 I haven't found a paper that works with them yet. Still nice tho.

I'm watching the video again....because her comments after testing a pen can be unclear if the pen tests IS waterproof or as she stated 'if it's just the wet paper making it look like it's not waterproof. At 5:30 into the video she tests the Uni-Ball Signo Ultra Micro 207 and she says (not very clearly) 'Not waterproof' (so I don't think you got a 'dud pen' according to CeeCee's testing). Mumbling doesn't help and maybe needs a good microphone - or do a voice over. On the Drop Down List of pens tested (too bad You Tube prevents copy and pasting that info! Darn!): Two pens that have Asterisks next to them are the: Uni-ball Signo DX 0.28 and the Uni-ball Signo DX 0.38, but I went through the video again and after testing the first pen at 4:26 into the video she says 'Not so much...' and after the 2nd pen that's astrisked she says it has a little bit more dilution'...so I'm thinking those 2 are having a bit of bleeding, but it is not completely clear. But, at the end she says her favorites ARE the Signo DX in either 0.28 or 0.38. So, maybe researching more info online for those 2 pens will settle it. So thankful for people doing videos!
How many pages does the sketchbook have. The website does not say. . . or perhaps I just did not see it.
I've fallen for the Signo DX pens myself. I use them for everything, art and writing. There's just something about the feel of how they go down also. I also love the small size Bee paper, but my source has dried up. Where are you getting it from now?
@creationsceecee

yes, i have the same issue with the Bee Paper. i just checked on Amazon.com again and it's currently unavailable and they don't know if and when it will be rre-stocked. i will have to come up with a solution for this because the size and the price point vs. quality was excellent. when i find the solution, i will let everyone know!

@@creationsceecee It's the perfect size and I agree about the quality in conjunction with that. I'd contacted Bee about it last year but they were very non-committal about it being available. The closest thing I've found is Strathmore Ready Cut in 5x7, but I don't like it as much.

Oh, Opus out in BC has 300 gsm, 40 sheets 7"x11" of their own paper for about $30. It's been a long time since I used it though. I recall it being all right.
I find that except for gel pens, if you allow them to dry for 5 to 10 minutes (time for a tea or coffee), they won't bleed ....
Thank you for sharing! I love your style!
Thank you. My drawing pens dry out so fast even if capped. Do you have a recommend for that. The pens i bought were expensive.
