    So yeah Wonder Woman broke her lasso in this story, it's tied to her soul/life force and rendered her a weakened mortal with her youth and strength diminished. She sacrificed all her power to help superman, and all he cares about after watching a man kill himself and his closest ally throw everything away to help him is the personal betrayal of someone else because he never showed any real trust or humanity back to him. Pretty bleak stuff, tho the scene feels like it gets glossed over.

    Weird that splitting up Lois and Clark (albeit via reboot) and revealing his identity to the world (twice) did end up happening in the main continuity. And both were rightfully undone.

    This story is really great, it can also be an interesting discussion about nature vs nurture, because yeah, Supes wasn't raised in the U.S. but he's not evil for being Soviet either, he still has in him that sense of responsibility to help humanity, yes, he goes astray for a while, but he realizes his mistake and leaves the world to someone who can improve it, this book and the great Kingdom Come show us that even though Superman can get mad, his goodwill will always come out and do the right in the end, this is why I think the Injustice story line especially the games get Superman wrong because he's just evil and no matter what happens to him, he's still this mustache twirling bad guy; really great story from someone who gets Superman.

    I am dubious of Alan Moore’s description of physics, but it works on a philosophical level. A similar argument shows up at the end of the barely-remembered Kevin Spacey movie K-Pax.

    1:02:15 i dont think that the issue.. i think the issue is more about superman not being written as a person but an idea.. and superman should always be Clark first and superman after. that not to say that he shouldnt be doing all does thing you just mention. just that people should empathize with him cause his humanity not cause of what he can do and the moral he pushes. cause without that humanity.. you only have an alien telling humans how to be more like an alien..

    It's interesting that sounds the exact opposite of what people think about Batman. People like to see batman struggle from time to time but in general they see batman as an idea. A man trying to be legend, an ideal to the point of obssession that stopped being human when he loses his parents

    You can’t “explicitly imply” something, that’s an oxymoron. Sorry, had to get that out of the way. Seriously, this was a very good video. Loved all the little voices and accents, and I didn’t know the historical stuff about Grant Morrison. This is one of my favorite comics even though I’m not a huge Superman fan. Though the ending is pretty grim, but you cover that.

    1:03: again i dont think they want superman to be piece of shit. what characters like homelander bring to the table is the ability to look at the flaws of the fantasy or our society. as the flaws of the fantasy ..superman origin story normally works to compliantly well.. this is also why is a good idea to give superman his powers only till he reach a certain age .. cause that actually makes it more believable that his parents where able to rise a healthy morally good person that can live up to the title of superman... while the idea that even from a baby superman had power takes more suspension of disbelief . when it comes to home lander and in general the superheros of the world of the boys... it less about what superpowers would do or allow a person to become and more about businesses and celebrity or the "great man" worship.. that plagues or society .. the boy isnt so much about..what if superheros where real as much as it is.. what if the flaws of the Capitalist complex created superheros..

    The average evil superman fan is not like that, they are normally boomers or/and batman/punisher/any violent super hero fan who doesn't like that Superman is a good person, that he doesn't beat his enemies to a pulp and doesn't have dark psychological aspects and refuses to aknowledge anything about the character because of that. Homelander is a remarkable character thats is so good because he is more than just evil superman, he's a person with layers and captivating personality to the point you forget he's supposed to be a superman like, also not only him but all the characters in The Boys can get away with being extreme and doing some crazy stuff because of the air of parody around the show so you do get to see what the average evil superman wants to see without compromise character developement

  • @kindlingking

    @kindlingking

    5 ай бұрын

    @@mgs2014 klyukva is heavily stereotypical, usually overly simplified and biased/politicised depiction of Russia or more often USSR made by people who have no experience with either. Every time you see a russian guy in ushanka drinking vodka and calling everyone comrade - that's klyukva. In this particular comic, take a scene at 21:00, for example. When I saw it, I bursted out laughing of how ridiculous it was - a fucking Stalin holding an aristocratic festivity with suits and dances and all. Or how about that scene where superman sees a long line of hungry people waiting for their bread because "the system is like this". As if ration cards weren't a result of certain event in 1940s of global scale that echoes in my country to this day. Or take the worst offender - this comic's versions batman who's just normal batman, but for some reason he put a piece of ushanka on his cowl (get it? because he's from Russia now). What could've been an interesting concept had writers do their homework that instead became a parody of itself. Honestly, klyukva is the least of this comic's issues. You can't say it criticises communism or USSR, because it doesn't depict any. You can't say it criticises capitalism or "american way" either, since it doesn't dwell on it more than 10 seconds. Maybe considering it's ending it's about free will and that's the plane it puts superman's USSR (where he lobotomizes dissidents and babysits everyone) in opposition to luthor's US (where people are free, I guess?). But this theme feels haphazardly thrown in at the last moment and doesn't lead to anything. Honestly, most of this comic feels like lex luthor propaganda, down to how caricaturishly smart he is and how he can just fix any problem and build utopia on earth while simultaneously learning 100 languages, reading all books ever printed all at once and banging his wife while standing on his head. This guy isn't in any way the representative of humanity, he's another superman with only difference being that he's native to his time (since cal el is apparently not an alien, but from the future). And while the ending kinda nudges at "you probably should've taken a different route", the only way this book can "redeem" superman is by killing him.

    The death of Superman story arc was the largest, most cynical money grab i ever witnessed. It was not a high point by any measure, except maybe financially. It came at a time when people hadn't realized that comic collecting was only a lucrative activity when it's not actively marketed as a lucrative activity.
