    I love the conversation about the description of Folkloric Witchcraft in the US . For a lot of us the folklore isn't ours, but where our families came from doesn't really belong to us either, bc we were born here. I'm glad to see ppl crafting new traditions for a new generation. ❤❤❤

    Loved this! One of the first things I learned in Druidry that deeply resonated with me was around ancestral connection and how that didn't have to solely relate to the ancestry of your bloodline. Earth-based spirituality is a universal language, and we all learn from the same book. That book is written by the Earth herself, and it is written directly into nature. It is my belief that to learn from and honor the spirits of any given land is to honor all of the ancestors that came there before you, so long as you are not appropriating their experiences, of course. 💚

    Very good chat! He is correct in the since I view Trad Folklore Witchcraft as a path that is very culture, location based. Like I live in Sweden so what herbs, trees, etc that people are using, speaking of in like the UK or North America are simply not available here. Or as he said due to USA, the Americas in general are a land that is a re invented version of other places North America has created something unique of their own. Added in many TFW of the Americas N or S add in much Native aspects which both aspects make it where someone like me find it hard to relate or simply not connect or find interesting. And this is just true for anyone. I could not talk about doing a ritual at a Rune stone and think someone would relate to that as Rune stones are only in a few countries! He hee. So I think TFW is a path that people connect too more in personal way, but has made it not be able to be as widely practised. NOT a bad thing just is.

As I live in the U.K. our folk tales, old apothecary books 📖 & myths really do influence my practice especially my interaction with plant & tree spirit allies & Spirits of place. I don’t label myself anything but Witch, or Solitary Witch if pushed for more clarification, but as I work with plant or tree matter all of the time for my witchcraft practice but also for medicinals I like to think there’s a bit of Cunning Folk in me 😊 I especially feel like that when tending to my baneful plant allies that can both harm & heal

Going back and reading a Cornish book of Ways again and then the black toad then will reread Marshall’s book again. My mom is from Bristol England and my dad Bath England. To me very close to Cornwall and Devon and even though my parents birth places adopted Christianity long before Gemma’s I can’t but feel that the practices were once practiced in the places of my parents birth

    I have so many books to read. I decided not to buy anymore until I have caught up with the ones I have. Now I have to read this book. I thought I would be safe here as it is American and I am what you call British, which is in my case English. Also I read a book years ago written by those who started the cult of Tubal Cain. Put me right off. So I thought this would be interesting but not something I would take further than this video. Unfortunately this covers so many areas which also cover me, that I am going to have to read this book. In England we would say that it is right up my alley. I almost didn’t watch this video. It just shows how you can never tell where inspiration will strike. I am off to Amazon now. ❤

Traditionally, we were the keepers of the sacred. So I guess my question is, can you be culturally different and still be labeled a Traditional witch.

    From my understanding, trad craft has less rules and guidelines. It is more free and ecstatic compared to Wicca which is more structured and ceremonial. Trad craft focuses more on the magic of the people as well as the folklore of the region. What grandma did in the kitchen and what spirits inhabit your space. 😊

    This! Oh my god, okay, so as a writer, I often think, if I write fictional characters and a fictional tale, but enough people around the world hold these characters in their minds, do they then become entities, essentially? So many people focusing their energy and emotions on these characters; the idea of them! I have often thought how, to me, many deities from many old religions likely came from someone telling a story to teach a lesson, but then over time people began to believe that it was a real being, and worshiped it as a god. Could _I_ create gods with my writing???

    If I am part Native American, does that mean I can look up these local folklores? Where is the genetic limit on these things? Or is it more about being a part of a closed/open specific tribe/culture? Because as of right now, we are not able to find out what tribe we're from and it wouldn't matter because of racism and the different countries involved with my family :(

  • @IvyTheOccultist

    @IvyTheOccultist

    Жыл бұрын

    Anyone can look up folklore but it's more about whether you have a personal connection to that folklore or not. For me, because I am not Native American nor was I raised with any of those influences, I don't have any personal connection to Native American folklore apart from the fact that I inhabit the same region. Without that personal connection, there's a disconnect there. I don't want to tell anyone that they can't practice something because that's not my place. I think if you have a personal connection to something, then that's worth exploring even if you're unsure what tribe you are from. 😊

    For anyone that's interested you can always do something like Ancestry DNA for example, and really hone in on what your genetic family lineage is. You may find something in your family cultural background that really resonates with you that you can explore in terms of traditions of magic, witchcraft, or whatever label you want to put on the traditional spirituality of your origins. It may also be something that feels truly yours, is part of your ancestral memory, and you can resonate deeply with. I have found for myself this has been very profound, and I have far more clarity about the lands my ancestors actually came from. Coincidentally, the spiritual heritage of those lands are something I deeply connect with, and I don't feel any need to search for a belief system because I've discovered what mine is. I'm still interested in hearing/learning about all kinds of spiritual beliefs even though I have found my own roots. I have as stronger sense of who I am because of this. 🙏🏻
