'What is enlightenment?'
This channel is managed by the Krishnamurti Foundation Trust, UK, and by the Krishnamurti Foundation of America.
The role of the foundations was described by Krishnamurti when he said, 'The foundations will see to it that these teachings are kept whole, are not distorted, are not made corrupt. They will not give rise to any sectarian spirit in their activities... nor create any kind of place of worship around the teachings or the person.'
We maintain extensive archives of Krishnamurti's original works and all four Krishnamurti foundations are actively engaged in the publication of material in various forms.
Our videos contain thousands of subtitles in more than 25 languages, translated by volunteers from all over the world. If you would like to help us with translating subtitles, please contact us at digital@kfoundation.org

You’re listening to someone who cracked the code of thinking. Keep listening. No one is more true than this man. You might go around listening to others but you will end up with him. The reason is simple: he knows what he is talking about. In time you might get bored of him because he speaks in the same way and people run away and think he doesn’t touch the heart of people. But this is a huge misunderstanding, because he shows you the way intellectually and the opening of the heart will be your sweetest surprise. He doesn’t want his experience to be yours; he simply wants you to have your own. He throws you into the ocean of your deepest fears and lets you swim alone. Nobody can swim for you. And there is the success of a true master.

Ur mistakening something, the child will always speak the truth for he has no reason to lie, it is when he lies even when he has abundance of something he is no longer innocent, would you say the child who stole to survive in the streets a liar when he was threatened by a dumb humongous man who would beat teh shit out of him. It isn’t about saying you are innocent or not, rather speaking the truth. Someone can very well be enlightened at that particular moment but the fact is the universe is so vast as a human soul we cannot comprehend it, life death creation itself. To be enlightened for this life is to know that everything is an illusion, everything is true and false at the same time. What we do in our life doesn’t really matter, but we must do it for we have a role to play in this cosmic drama, To be enlightened is to realise that it doesn’t matter and yet be okay with it. Give without the expectation of getting back; passion, love At least that’s what i think it is.

Wow, what he's saying is soo simple i almost didn't notice it even though he was describing it clearly. Now that ive noticed it i can't unnotice it. He's speaking clearly and logically, with no metaphor except for the fact that human language is imperfect. What he says in this speech is a single idea over and over again. And I've just watched some of his other speeches and they are all saying the exact same thing. What he's saying is that your capacity to reason is within yourself, not outside yourself, stop referring to gurus like him, simply observe the truth within yourself, don't refer to wrong ideas from society or wrong ideas that you created from your own past, all these extra filters(wrong ideas from society and past you) are stopping you from simply observing truth... That's what i got from it anyway

And then, to try to be conscious of what we think and what we feel and what we do, without judgement, and figure out why we are the way we are. But I'm still learning. We all are. @@lathaaddepalli4242 You know the truth by observing what is false, as it will soon dissolve when given enough attention. Whatever remains simply is, until you generate a false reality again. Become swift and active in this process and maybe you'll become closer to the truth by becoming less attached to what is not the truth. As an example, I'm sure you can think of many times in your life when this has happened to you or someone else in a passive manner. A damaged ego from being called out by someone. Falling for a scam, or even the confusion of love and lust. I'm reminded of a documentary called FYRE: The Greatest Party That Never Happened. It greatly shows an egotistical/narcissistic? organizer getting carried away and ignoring the signs. He denies them and pushes harder and harder to make this event happen with greater risk and danger. All others involved becomes conflicted and swept up in the chaos. A community damaged, millions $$ lost. The groupthink phenomenon is also like this.

Jason Wakefield To explain what enlightenment is, J.K. Cited the example of a hypothetical person who thinks s/he is violent and wants to become non-violent. So violence is a fact for that individual and non-violence is an idea whereas in ultimate reality, there are no opposites, only non duality. Perception is action meaning that once you start observing every single action of yours, violence slowly will start fading away from your life with the power of perception, attention(light). Every single action, word, thought or feeling is an act of violence that intends to harm others or ourselves in any way(JK talked about hate, jealousy etc), so it will be a journey from violence to 0 violence- it’s all one concept, no opposites- same thing on a spectrum. This work is there only to unravel or uncover what is already there, enlightenment in that sense is not a journey in or through time rather peeling off and uncovering what is already always here, which is you, the light, the truth, enlightenment is there if you’ve started observing your own patterns, it’s not there if you’ve not.

JK was the "chosen one" for the theosophical society as a great enlightened being and he was exposed to all the scriptures of the world in an effort to manufacture a perfect realised human being. Most of what he says is borrowed directly from advaita vedanta and buddhism. He extorts us to recognise the trap of names and forms, yet walks us into the trap probably inadvertently. Please note, I am not saying he is showing any intellectual dishonesty on purpose. But having watched JK's videos, I cant help seeing the congruence of thoughts and ideas being presented, with different words. JK's videos convinces me that there are no free thinkers - because there are no free thoughts.

Mindfulness meditation should be the practice that follows JK insights, just observing and not analyzing and its amazing how feelings just are, and dissolves the moment you observe them for a period of time. Based on my experience, Im working in a project with a friend and I had an internal issue because I didnt like his ideas in an ego perspective. The main problem was the ideal I was chasing, so his idea wasnt good enough under my perspective, so I meditated through. I could ve confronted him and been in a conflict and maybe persuade him to follow my idea but instead of that, I observed the root of my anger and dissatisfaction, and my conflict ended doing that through a period of meditation. After resolving my issues i realized that you can become and friction free human being, conquering you physical, mental and spiritual/energetic body. Thats the path. The one that someone is when he stops looking for it. I love paradoxes. All mysteries lay behind a paradox.

Fantastic😊. The perception of the fact, which is duality. The violent self, for example, and the non-violent self coexist in the now. The causal relation between both polar images, the film of the violent being pursuing a solution (with all its derived narratives), which is time and space, defines the movement of thought. In essence, there is no causality, no time and no space between the two images, absolutely. Beyond the walls of the bounded reality of thought ("matrix"), both images coexist quantumly. The detection of that duality is equal to the meeting and annihilation of the opposites, of the particle and the antiparticle. The collision between the two in the now, beyond time, releases an enormous amount of energy (perception-action). Antimatter has not disappeared... The problem is materialism, the reduction of everything to matter, which is the fruit of the dual observation of thought.

But this comes and goes but the awarness stays but the thing is you don t cling to your thoughts and emotions anymore . It s just you flow like water . You don t identify anymore yourself with the ego. But this needs constant care because in our ordinary life it s easy to be lost in karma again. Anyway life is an illusion you can dream it the way you want to.

I heard a saying in regards to the way it comes and goes, some people worry that when it goes it might not come back, but it is always there. Like at night, when you look up and see the stars and the immense universe, then during the day, you can’t see it anymore, but it’s still there. No need to worry, it will be back. I agree, modern life, with work, bills, distractions, it can be difficult to maintain the impartial observer, and you might find yourself slipping back into total identification with experience. You know conceptually that it can be different, but the knowing of this doesn’t allow you to regain that internal space. You need to go back to your basic practice of observation, then you can feel what is like to be the observer then, and it will be more likely to be maintained. For some people, they want to have a small practice at some time in the day, and then continue on normally as they always do. But to those who have awoken this higher awareness, this inner observer which has space from that which it observes, they know they are that, and so continue to do so throughout the day where possible. And when life pulls you in again, to be aware when this has happened, this can help pull you out again. Like you said, care and maintenance is required. Good luck and be well.

I used to read these kinds of words, but I never became enlightened. Then I read the books spoken by energy beings in other dimensions. They are already there where we will be one day. Not that we are not already there. But focus is turned here. Since we are multidimensional projections, then there are many personalities to the soul. We are one of these personalities. Our literal soul has turned its attention towards this dimension while at the same time, this literal soul turns its self towards many other dimensions. Time is simultaneous. All of these personalities are happening at the same time as all of us are within this hologram of the soul . So we can become aware of these other selves. We have to learn how to tune our frequencies towards other dimensions, hoping to feel or hear another voice. We are all one in the same way. We are all images within the image called God, which I have read is much like a holodeck.

I love Krishnamurti. Wise, sincere and humble. His beautiful discourse leads me to comment in this way: Time by itself avails us of nothing in the way of depth. Time by itself is a collection of experiences within which lies hidden liberating wisdom. The only way to this wisdom is meditation, which is often catalyzed by distress, anguish, suffering. Meditation is the inward observational and thoughtful process that elicits consciousness, awareness, in the form of epiphanies and insights. Meditation is the bridge that takes us from experience to oneness, from hell to heaven, from fear to acceptance, being in the moment. Said simply, meditation is the cornerstone of spiritual evolution. Enlightenment, as I see it then, is to understand how to access the depths within, the inner light, the inner guidance.

“Perception is action, it’s NOT perception followed by an interval and then action happens. Because in that interval you create the IDEA 💡 of YOU doing the action” so nicely put 🙏🏽 this pretty much sums up how the illusion of self and free-will is created when we perceive things with ignorance.

Since we are all stating our concept of enlightenment I'm gonna weigh in too lol Here is the "far out" version: the ability to focus awareness beyond the senses to experience the deepest level of reality that can be interpreted by the mind. Here's the "realistic" version: mindful acknowledgement of thoughts to systematically deconstruct social programming in order to gain intuitive knowledge on existential matters; ie answers to all questions. This term gets put on a pedestal but pretty sure the story of Buddha says he became enlightened after realizing he was the whole time. Therefore actively trying to be enlightened is counter productive. Consider neural plasticity; when you consciously relax your mind the neural connections that comprise your regular thought patterns are weakened making it easier to form new connections. Pair this with the concept of the collective unconscious and also the concept that the brain functions like a radio. Relaxing your consciousness opens the neural pathways which makes your brain capable of receiving an increased range of frequencies. Like putting your radio on "seek" only its not pop culture drivel its cosmic fucking energy!!!

When a man says he is humble or compassionate, in relation to the definition of humble or compassionate, he is so. That is only how he could identify that state of being humble or compassionate. From definition one starts with a path in mind and on confirming himself or herself to the definition laid out by Buddha or Krishna or Christ, thoughts deceive itself into attaining that state through time and believe in Nirvana or Holy Father. Wow!

Krishnamurti has always eschewed the idea of enlightenment, and for a very good reason. "The essence of what we are cannot become, attain, obtain, or even change, because it is fundamental...There is no enlightenment. It is an idea that is promoted by those who have no experience beyond the self. The self can never be enlightened, and beyond the self is consciousness, which is already whole and therefore cannot become anything, including enlightened. At best, enlightenment is an ideal or a metaphor." - Vic Shayne, author, 13 Pillars of Consciousness

@@anthonygenovese5338 The physical body will generate a response to the punch. Neurons will fire and will bring about thoughts, feelings, and sensations. Since you have identified those with pain and have also identified with how one responds to pain, one generally responds to that pain. But since you're the awareness that witnesses and observes all these thoughts, feelings, and sensations that project onto the mind, you are capable of not responding to pain in the traditional sense. You can take the monk who lit himself on fire and meditated through the entire thing and didn't flinch. Or the monks who travel high up into the snowy mountains to meditate with wet blankets wrapped around them as a challenge to see who can detach for the longest. It is surely possible, to withstand severe pain and distress, just a matter of who chooses to push it in my opinion.

Most think it is the removing of the false finite notion of a self. Then some feel great from doing that from which sometimes comes delusion as a self emerges again to acquire the experience. A more wholesome definition would be the removing of the finite notion of self and the finite verbal or image notions of everyone and everything into clear and present infinite actuality. So then a meditation isn't just a no-self/self actualizing solo process but a river that spreads non-limiting whatever consciousness it pervades loosening through space.
