    I have a prescription written in a way where It's hard to understand. The way it's written differs from the standard charts you show in your videos; in fact there's no chart and what I see is two lines of letters and numbers. I'm unsure which numbers represent an astigmatism. Is there any way you'd be able to help?

    I was just diagnosed with astigmatism and nearsightedness with my right eye having the astigmatism and the left one nearsightedness. I think my astigmatism is very mild since it’s only a -1. The same with my nearsightedness that’s only a -1.25. This is my first time wearing glasses and I’m in my late 30s so I got away without wearing glasses for a long time. I thought I saw normal for most of my life so I was quite shocked to see that I didn’t so when I first put my first pair of eyeglasses I was like “Am I supposed to see like this?!” “Is that row of glasses supposed to look that close to me?! It definitely threw me off mentally. Is that common? It definitely felt weird at first to wear glasses, but after two weeks I got used to them and I actually like wearing them because I see better.

    I've got Myopic Macular Degeneration. My Retina Specialist said it was more than likely caused by astigmatism. I might add, I started wearing glasses at 6. Diagnosed with Wet Macular Degeneration at 24/25. Now, at 60, I had a small bleed 3yrs ago. I also have a macular pucker and cataracts in both eyes that are inoperable.

    I would imagine that before eyeglasses, astigmatism would have been quite a disability. I know that I could NEVER function without eyeglasses. The entire world without eyeglasses, for me, is like a Monet painting. I would have constant migraine headaches because I can't see anything unless it is a few inches from my face - and trying to focus at that distance causes head pain.

    Great video! My eyesight was terrible... I think -.11 and -.14 so I got Verisyse lens implants in each eye over a dozen years ago. Lift changing and I now see 20/40. I wear eyeglasses after about ten years not needing them at all which was fantastic. I have trouble at night now due to awful astigmatism and I use drops in my eyes called alphagan which reduces the glare. They are a bit expensive but thankfully I only use it occasionally. Worth every penny.

    great info mate , just found out that 1 in 3 people in the USA have astigmatism and 1 in 2 have atleast some level on astigmatism (usually goes undetected). now one thing i wanted to ask is...can astigmatism be detected in a normal eye test? and why not? because one of my friends just discovered he has it even though he had 20/20 vision throughout his life. same for me. I've always had 20/20 vision but now maybe i need glasses. even though i can read till line 9 in the snellen chart (which is still 20/20) but I'd like to have my young vision back. thanks for the info again :)

    A standard eye test can usually detect astigmatism quite reliably. It’s important to understand that mild astigmatism isn’t always noticeably detrimental to visual acuity, particularly if the axis is close to the meridians of 0°, 90°, or 180°. At oblique angles (45°, 135°) astigmatism creates a diagonal ‘smudge’ and can make text difficult to read.

    4:22 Hi. I have been diagnosed with mild astigmatism in my left eye. Symptoms were blurred vision, headache and constantly twitching eye. My eye has been twitching since June 2022 (it is now Feb 2023). My optician told me that the astigmatism is causing my twitching eye and that wearing glasses all the time instead of only when I am driving will stop the symptoms in 2 months. Do you find that glasses help the twitching eye symptom that occurs with astigmatism? (The 2 months is up and the twitching continues although the headache and blurred vision have gone thank goodness 😊)

    I found out I had some astigmatism when I went for my first eye exam (age 48) in July 2022. I never knew I had it as mine is relatively mild (.50 diopter in each eye) The only time I notice it, is at night I see starbursts off of lights. I am an avid shooter, and my biggest issue with astigmatism is looking through red dot optics. I could never see a clean dot, but would see a comma instead. I don't know if astigmatism gets worse with age, as I am experiencing Presbyopia and apparently manifesting hyperopia with it....

    The amount of cyl. is only part of the equation, the axis should also be taken into consideration. Generally people who have ‘with the rule’ or ‘against the rule’ astigmatism (axis close to the meridians of 0, 90, 180) will have slightly better visual acuity for a given cyl. than someone with an oblique axis. For example, someone who has -1.00 cyl. at an axis of 180° might not be that bothered by their astigmatism, whereas someone with -1.00 cyl. at 130° may notice a huge improvement after correction.

    We feel you! Here at SportRx we come across this problem all the time! Try for a frame with a lens that is smaller in diameter which should significantly cut down on overall edge thickness. For high minus prescription strengths that include cylinder, more lens volume will ultimately result in a thicker lens especially near the outer edges.

    What is the tolerance for axis. Ex prescription.50 but actual in lens after made .62

  • @sportrxeyewear

    @sportrxeyewear

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi Allen! There is no tolerance for axis when it comes to prescription strength. The .62 is the digitally optimized prescription strength of the lens. This is very common to see. Most Dr's will write out a prescription strength to quarters of a diopter (.25 .50 .75 1.00) but the machines crafting the lens will take into account other factors such as lens curvature, frame wrap, vertex distance, OC height and optimize the lens strength to suit the wearer's needs.

    hmm this is interesting and a bit confusing. I have astigmatism or I was told I did but the symptom I have it not being able to look at specific patterns with out my eyes hurting. It is the same for my mom and grandma. Also not just patterns but one color on another is very hard to look at like green text on red. It is really hard to look at and the green actually looks 3d and feels like it is coming at you.

    Hello! Indeed, with that high of a cylinder correction, it becomes more difficult for Drs to accurately prescribe the right diopter strength. on the first try. It's not uncommon for people with strong astigmatism to go back for a recheck to confirm or adjust the prescription strength within a few days or weeks of their initial visit and oftentimes results in a remake if glasses were already made to their initial Rx. Flat four base frames with no wrap and low lens volume are preferred for the best chance of success for those struggling with high cyl corrections. Hi there! Most optometrists can correct for mild to severe astigmatism, but what causes double images and/or ghosting isn't limited to just refractive errors. Other factors could potentially be at play as well. You may want to consult an Ophthalmologist or neurovisual professional to determine the type and cause of your double vision, and to get treatment started right away. Hope this helps!

    HI! Here's the exact response to your initial question (copy and paste): 'Hi there! Hope this helps!'

    I’ve had astigmatism since I was born, in both eyes and when I went to the eye doctor last she said my astigmatism was “moderate” and I’m like “oh. That’s doctor speak for severe” 🥲
