Robert. Here is my latest eye exam for progressive lenses. OD +1.25 -0.50 175 +2.25 / OS +1.25 -0.50 005 +2.25. I've never liked my Shamir plastic lenses. They are the latest technology but I still don't like them. Because of your introduction I'm looking to get a pair of Masunaga Chord D titanium frames. At 47mm lens width they are a little too big for my face though. I wish I could get 44mm lens width. Still, based on my prescription, could I use REAL glass lenses in the Masunaga frames? I want my lenses to be as thin as possible and you said that real glass is the thinnest. Thank you!

I'm looking to replace my prescription lenses. I just had an eye exam and I'm getting progressive lenses. I want to get Zeiss real glass lenses. Today, my optometrist said that Zeiss progressive glasses lenses, with my mild prescription will cost $1400. This seems outrageously expensive. Zeiss SmartLife High Index 1.67 polycarbonate lenses are $1100. Am I messing something? Am I being ripped off?

@@traderspodcast2534 It seems like a straight forward question but it is vexing. Zeiss makes lenses, from plastic and glass, for cameras and for eyewear. Apparently, the problem in the U.S. is that you can't get Zeiss glass eyeglass lenses. You can only get Zeiss plastic lenses. You can get Zeiss glass lenses in Europe and Canada but not in the U.S. I could be wrong but it's what every optician in New York is telling me.

Robert is polished and has extensive knowledge of eyeglass technology and fashion and he delivers information in a format that is both easy to understand and useful. These videos are full of great information and he gets right to the point. His demeanor is calm and he has a soothing voice that makes the video easy to listen to. I got a %20 grey solid tint and it helps so much indoors. I always get Ray Ban New Wayfayers 2132 polarized with a almost #4 grey tint, done in house. I see THE SAME OPTOMOTRIST FOR 15 YEARS! Hi Robert. Once again, great information. So many choices, the next pair will be fun to create! Thank you for pointing out that you are describing lenses produced directly by Zeiss Germany and not licensed Zeiss products. I have worn Zeiss lenses for years (produced under license in Canada) and always thought they were great and then I received my first two pairs of glasses from you with 'real' Zeiss lenses and there is no comparison. The clarity, functionality and field of vision (super important with multi-focal lenses, IMO) of the Zeiss Germany lenses is far superior, even though I have identical prescriptions. Clearly, not all Zeiss lenses are created equal so, if you are not purchasing your glasses from Robert and the amazing SF team (the BEST of the BEST), ask your optician to confirm the origin of your Zeiss lenses.

What makes them so cool for me is that even though you start out at a moderate tint, they are perfectly usable indoors and when I’m inside, I forget that I’m wearing tinted lenses altogether. Once you step outside, though, they fully darken. they’re much more comfortable for me than a traditional transition lens

I wish you had mentioned or discussed bifocal lenses. Also, about tints. I prefer a warmer color like rose, or call it red or pink. My newest pair from laat Month has a tint somewhere around orange, but it is a browner orange one might call copper or burnt orange, not nearly as bright as your magma orange. Even my custom tint was a lavender that I had red added to to make it warmer in tone.

Ayoooo I would love to see a Digital Lens comparison! I recently got a pair of Zeiss smart life digital boost lenses but had no idea about the different levels of magnification that would be an option. It was only until a week after I ordered my glasses I found out and they were made with the weakest form of magnification at +0.50 boost level. Apparently they go up to +.75/1.00/1.25/1.50 The optometrist said he got me the 0.50 because I’m in my early 30s but I barely notice a difference. I was wondering if I should ask to get them in a +1.00 instead Maybe you can do a demo of the different magnifications and compare them to text on a page or phone? All the best. Cheers from Rhode Island!

It really depends more on what your triggers are, so it’s more of a case by case basis. There’s a ton of info on the FL-41 tint tho!

For the past ~2 years I have a pair of rx Zeiss Adaptive Sun Polarized in brown color, no mirror (they start at 60% light blocking, and go up to 97%, in theory, never in real life 🙂). Anyway, I've never had brown glasses until these, and I'm absolutely loving the contrast, I love them at the beach, I love them in the park, and I love them while driving (the 60% + polarization in the car really helps and those long summer holiday drives). I even tried a grey pair recently and it just seemed dull, clinical - give me back my brown "vacation mode" glasses! Now the itch I have, they are a tad too warm; I generally like the warm image, I absolutely love the contrast, but I'd like to mellow the warmth a bit. I would also like to get them to block a bit more light so was thinking of slapping a mirror on top. I will keep the same lens because I love that minimum 60% tint, but what kind of mirror do you think would help me achieve my goal? Ideally, something a bit cooler than brown, considerably warmer than grey, and if possible with bluer blues (the current brown tint darkens the blue nuance considerably). Brown base + bronze mirror Brown base + gold mirror Grey base + blue mirror (or even Strong Blue) Something else? (PS: I love a blue sky 🙂)

Hello Robert. Very informative channel. I made a rimless Lindberg Spirit Titanium pair last July. The optometrist and store employee suggest me to buy Zeiss's Blue Guard because I spend a lot of screen time to my work. I agreed of course but I do not know if they suggested me the best Zeiss lens technology options. My lens type is Zeiss FSV Clearview 167 BL DVP 75. I have hypermetropic astigmatism and due to the rimless design-prescription I couldn't make the lenses thinner (it is fine by me). I also wanted an antimicrobial coating (I believe it is called AntiVirus Platinum UV) but they said to me that it wasn't available any more. My question is if there were better option(s) in the Zeiss portfolio because if they were I will not visit again the same store. The bill was 600 euro (300 frames+300 lenses) but if there were better lens options I was willing to spend even more. I am happy with the particular Lindberg frame. Thank you in advance if you answer.

There was no mention of a custom base curve progressive lens. Essilor’s Varilux Stylistic Wrap allows the customer to specify the lenses’ outer curvature. For rimless frames, this is important for fit & appearance. I assume Zeiss offer a similar product. In the US, these are difficult to find as most optometrists here provide only basic service (even the Cartier dealers).

Hi Robert. Please answer me when you can because I see that you are very good at what you do and I have been following you for several years, even though I didn't need prescription glasses before 🤓... More recently, I got the ZEISS PF-X Flash Mirror, but it seems that the eyes are mirrored on the back of the lenses and reflect the light from behind. What do you think could be the problem (MAYBE the GREEN/not BLUE treatment on the back surface) or maybe something else and what exactly could I choose in the future to avoid this inconvenience? This interests me especially for the following frames with Flash Mirror... not for the clear ones (computer DuraVision-Platinum, with which it seems I don't have this problem even outdor). THANK YOU AND GOOD LUCK!

Hi, did we make these for you? If not I like to hope we will make your next pair, since you enjoy the channel. It's important, unless you like the beautiful coloured reflections as I do, to choose a frame with at least a small amount of curvature to avoid the reflections being angled towards the eyes. Therefore a frame adjustment usually solves the problem, assuming your optician knows their stuff, which I'm sure they do if you chose them.

I just got Zeiss blue light filter lenses for preventing strain on my eyes from working. The lenses don't have a blue glare shimmer when looked "at" them, and also the blue is not toned down as my other glasses do when looking into a screen. Is there something wrong with them, or is this a new technology/ coating that Blockes the harmful spectrum of blue but still let's blue light through? Thanks for your response.

Hi Robert. I was thinking about some Zeiss lenses with Photofusion+Duravision Amber Flash but after hering the unpleasant experiencies of filter wear, opacity, cracking(and treating them like a baby)i'm very discouraged. Zeiss tells you that this can happen to you by exposing the lenses to hight temperatures,of course,if you got for the sun and live in Spain imagine in the summer. Aren't they to protect you from the sun?

I'm in Thailand and it wasn't that easy to find a shop that can do Zeiss lenses. Trying to choose between Single Vision Clear View and Digital Lenses Individual (they say nothing about is it Smart Life or something other, they just say that Digital Lenses Individual are produced in Germany and therefore take about 4 weeks to be delivered). Clear View are not only ~8 times cheaper but also available in 3-4 days. Currently I'm using (unknown brand) single vision lenses +0.75 to work with my laptop and phone, but can also clearly see on a mid and far distances both with or without glasses, (really, glasses make no difference for mid and far distances). I'm 42 and without glasses can barely read small fonts, especially in the morning and by the evening, during the day the eyesight is a bit better and I use glasses just time to time and only while working with the laptop or smartphone. So will Digital Lenses (I assume it is Smart Life) give me any benefit in my case? Or does it make sense to save and get just Clear View? I tried some Hoya progressive lenses at first, didn't know anything about glasses that time and just paid for what I was offered, they were +0.5 at the top, +0.75 in the middle and +1.0 in the bottom, but using them was a disaster for me as despite the fact I was able to see laptop screen clearly and phone screen nicely on a closer distance, I wasn't able to see anything above the middle of the lense (mid and far distances) and by the sides and was getting a headache after 30-60 minutes of usage, so went back to the shop and they agreed to change lenses to +0.75 single vision, so now I'm kinda afraid of progressive lenses and similar.

CR-39 plastic or a polycarbonate material lens by a local optician and by many brands would or should be very satisfactory. As for night driving learning to avoid looking directly at headlights or maybe an anti-glare coating could help but there is a lot of subjectivity in what seems to help your night driving. Yellow tint might be suggested for night driving but any tint reduces some light entering to your eye and that may not be ideal at night. So I (licensed optician and contact lens fitter with an Applied Science Degree and Associates Degree in Opticianry) don't think you need to worry about lens brand. Be current on your doctor visits and don't stress over night driving. Practice not looking directly at light sources at night. If you don't have the ability to order eyeglasses in your country I would contact someplace like Johns Hopkins Hospital in the United States or the purveyor who produces these videos directly.

They still make Single Vision, without the ClearView part. My prescription is +0.25/-1.00, and I like the non-ClearView Single Visions better than the ClearView: when I tried the latter, they... altered colors a bit. The blue light filter (BlueProtect/BlueGuard) altered colors yet more: it was easy to detect the change in how white objects were seen. It's a real pity that these optically superior lenses can't be designed in a way that leaves colours as natural as possible (I think SmartLife doesn't alter shades, but I may be wrong). **** I also want to say that SmartLife gives a benefit even with a prescription like mine (monofocal lenses): I got it with my AdaptiveSun dark lenses (they told me those came only in the SmartLife technology), and, well... I see a bit better with my dark lenses than the transparent ones. ****

While I find this channel to be the best for optical lenses and frames, I find the extreme biased towards Zeiss lenses a little too much. It makes me believe that some form of incentive exists for them to push these lenses so much as I do not believe Zeiss lenses to be the "best" in most catagories. For example, IOT as a company spends the majority of it's revenue on R&D. Far more than most lens design companies. Their Myopia lenses are backed by much more independent studies than Zeiss and their Camber progressive lenses are far superior to anything Zeiss can offer. And while I agree that since IOT is a design company and there are some labs that can provide inferior quality, the same can be said for Zeiss around the world. A Camber lens manufactured in a top notch Lab in Germany will out perform a lens made in Zeiss Germany. Also, if we look at coatings, the leader in this space is Hoya by a large margin. While Zeiss and other players use machines made by the top 3 machine manufacturers (Satisloh, Schneider and Optotech), Hoya has designes its own proprietary coating machine with a company in Japan. So, knowing the realities of lens manufacturing, I don't understand the heavy bias unless there is an incentive. I personally find the content that is unbiased to be the most interesting

I'm not paid to be a brand ambassador and we sell lenses from all brands, including Essilor and IOT. IOT may do a lot of R&D (and I have rated them highly on this channel) but not at the same level of Zeiss and Shamir, in particular. And I have mentioned several times that Hoya make the best coatings. But I'm personally not going to choose a lens because the coating is 10% more scratch resistant or easier to clean.

  • @erfanebrahimi9983

    @erfanebrahimi9983

@@thespectaclefactoryMy comment regarding Hoya coating was simply in response to you saying Zeiss had the best coatings, which isn't really true... And yes, while you have rated other lens brands high as well, you only make content regarding 1 brand of lens, Zeiss. Whether it's their coatings, their photochromic or anything else really. The narrative that Zeiss is by far the best is a very common theme here. For example, you have rated certain lenses of both Hoya and Essilor in the same category as Zeiss, but we never see any content about them. Or IOT's Camber progressive lenses. However; when you create content for frames, you tend to cover many more brands and speak less biasedly about them. It's your unbiasedness that attracts me to your chanel. Anyway, overall I do enjoy your content and just wanted to share just some honest feedback.
