I should add that an associate's degree is DEFINITELY a boon to a few STEM fields, especially nursing and IT. Many entry level nursing and IT jobs are asking for associate's degrees and have decent pay. Supplementing an associate's degree with projects and certifications could potentially be just as good as a bachelor's degree in these technical fields as long as you are okay with starting from the bottom and working your way up.

In my experience when it comes to the workforce, experience is really what's looked at more than education. In fact certain industry experience becomes important when you've been in the workforce for awhile. When I finished college I worked as a temp at a major bank for two years then one year at another big bank. When my contract was expiring and I was job hunting I was not getting jobs at companies related to banking such as financial management, accounting firms and insurance but when I applied to a job at another office of the bank I had been temping in I was offered the job without an interview.

Starting NEIU this fall with my bachelors in cybersecurity with all my 64 credits transferring over. Excited.

Did you transfer to 4 year after cc with or without an associates? A regular associates or different associates? I know there are special associates. At 2 year did you take one year and a second year of a language or did you not need it? If you did, what language? Did you end up needing to take another level of that language at 4 year, did you remember how to use the language then and now?

I would definitely love to see more community college content! I am a current part-time community college student and I will be completing my AA in Psychology next semester. It's going to take a little longer for me to complete all my transfer requirements, and there are some other classes I want to take. Do you recommend getting multiple Associate's degrees if you want to double major or want to explore multiple options? I'm thinking of getting at least 1 other Associate and eventually going full-time.

  • @HaileyDollarGoesToCollege

Hi Matthew, thanks for watching. Earning multiple degrees will be your own personal choice, but I will say that you can still take classes outside of your major even if you don't earn a degree in them. That's one of the nice things about your general education; experimentation is built into it.

It depends on the school. And it's less about the associate degree track as it is about the transfer pathway. There is a lot of overlap between these two but they are not identical. In California, most CSUs and UCs will accept IGETC pathway for most majors.

Hello there, it is less about the title of the major and more about fulfilling your premajor requirements. Find out what courses the university you want to transfer to requires you to complete and work towards that. If you can find a major that overlaps with that, great. But if not, no sweat. The likelihood of you finding a an associate's degree that matches the premajor coursework 100% is pretty much zero.

Hi Rosa, sounds very exciting! I do not personally know much about the industry. You should do some research to find out what the requirements are for jobs in your industry. For your second question, every degree focuses on a specific topic. Usually you are required to do some general education in addition to your major-specific coursework. This will be an opportunity to explore things outside of your field. If you are asking about a more general degree, many schools offer Liberal Arts degrees that cover a wide breadth of topics. Hope that helps!

I think it would be very difficult to obtain US Fi Student visa for Community Colleges. US Embassies only issue F1 Student visa for minimum of Bachelors or Masters degrees, not Associate degrees. Anyway, do your online research.

@@taranwraich5359 To be honest, most jobs will require at least a bachelor's degree to be eligible, but it varies. Most people who earn associate's degrees do so with the intention of transferring to a 4 year university and they happen to earn the degree along the way. I've personally never experienced any negative effects because of my associate's degree, but I've also don't believe that it has ever given me much of any edge.
