I took Latuda. I got akathisia. I wouldn’t wish it upon my worst enemy. You feel like you have an exoskeleton trying to jump out of your skin, at the same time bugs crawling out of your skin like the movie the mummy, then add in the worst anxiety you could imagine, plus you can tell your body is so tired but your so jittery you can’t sit still, your mind feels like mind is going crazy, and it’s so bad I could see anyone wanting to jump off a building for it to stop. I went to the hospital they gave me both properal and 4mg of Ativan (what the doc in this video mention) for me it barley made a difference. 4mg of Ativan normally knock me out for 2 days. My symptoms lasted 48 hours. Maybe this example will help put it in perspective. I was an opioid addict, I went to rehab, and experienced the terrible withdraws. I would rather go through opioid withdraw for months over 1 day of akathisia. If I had to experience that again for 10 days, I wouldn’t have been surprised if I had killed myself.

Welcome to the real world, where none of their drugs cause any problems, ever.
Akathisia is the absolute worst I’ve ever felt in my life. I experienced it from an anti nausea medication called Metoclopramide (Reglan). I only experienced it a couple times and that was more than enough so my heart truly does go out to people that deal with it long term, it’s truly living in a hell like state. Great and informative video!

Reglan bud it did it to me after I recovered from risperidone induced akathisia, it took many months but I had occipital neuralgia and wanted to puke so I went to the ER at UoM and they gave me in IV of Reglan to treat the nausea and I ended up experiencing akathisia very severely in the ICU and because of that, I accidentally said I wanted to die because of how bad I felt I was thrown into the psych unit at the University of Michigan and they put me on the ground in the waiting room because there wasn’t any more seats with a blanket and made me wait there overnight with akathisia, they give me benzo they give me like Ativan or something and even after I waited all night to a see a doctor to see what was wrong with me. they then transported me like like an hour and a half or two hours away from the hospital after waiting an entire night in psych waiting room because there was no more beds. It was very terrifying to experience akathisia from Reglan after what I went through with risperidone, I was 20 years old and in pain, I could’ve died If mental health matters, this is a huge red flag, for a health care industry ti not provide proper and safe etiquette health to everyone should have heads turning, people have lost their lives to akathisia

I had restless legs syndrome and akathisia from Quetiapine (seroquel) and when I was given Pregabalin it stopped. I went off Pregabalin for about a week and I thought it would come back but it didn't. I think high doses of Pregabalin do more harm than good so I've kept it at 75mg twice a day, when the Fibromyalgia is really bad I take an additional 25mg in the evening but go back to the normal dosage when it eases off. My doctor said it may get worse as I get older and wants to keep me on a lower dose for as long as possible so that I don't run out of options and also to prevent the bad side effects from pregabalin which gets worse with higher doses like anything higher than 150mg twice a day. I know someone on 300mg twice a day and think it's too high, if they forget a dose or run out they will have really bad withdrawal symptoms.
Dear God Please cure my akathisia, i don't want my parents to be sad. Thank you. Amen.

Thank you Dr. Joseph for this presentation. . Akathisia is an iatrogenic injury, and I experience it as an inability to be at peace. . Do your own research! Millions of individuals, families, and communities have been harmed and devastated by following the advice of psychiatrists. . God bless anyone who has been inaccurately diagnosed and injured by a psychiatrist. I pray for PEACE for anyone experiencing AKATHISIA, and offer my FORGIVENESS to anyone who knowingly or unknowingly prescribes toxins as medicine. Art
I was diagnosed with tardive dyskinesia after starting Latuda. With the odd facial movements, it made sense. But the intensity of the need to move, made it feel like my body was hijacked- like my muscles had a mind of their own. It was unbearable. I would spend most of the day bouncing on a yoga ball, or constantly shaking my leg so aggressively, despite my muscles feeling like they were on fire. I barely made it through a month- so my heart goes out to everyone suffering that kind of hell. Especially those who have yet to figure out why. I went years before finding out about akathisia- when the same dr warned me of the side effect when she prescribed a new medicine. Hopefully drs continue educating themselves on these silently dangerous side effects. Prayers to those still trying to find the other side of the struggle

I had this for about 6 months prior to entering an integrated mood and anxiety disorder program for 12 weeks at homewood health centre in Guelph Ontario Canada. I am still on medication including benzodiazepine. It was so extremely difficult and no sleep or a sort of half awake sensation about two hours nightly was all sleep I could get. It cost 24000 for the program. No mental health inpatient services are available in Canada covered by universal health care
Akathisia felt terrifying and I wanted to bang my head against the wall. It led me to go to the ER because it was during the weekend and I felt like no one could help me. Benadryl helped me but I remember rocking back and forth crying non stop for 6 hours. I don't know if I made the right choice but I felt like this was a true emergency. After being in the ER I decided fuck it, I am getting myself off this shit before I hurt myself and I never looked back.

He didn't know anything about the horrible mental terrors and torture. He thought if he slowly tapered me off of the prozac I'd be better, but now 16 months later nothing's better, it's worse. Sleeping a half hour a day and pacing for another eighteen hours isn't living, It's not even existing, It's like the living dead. Yep. Benzo withdrawal definitely can cause it. They can cause very bad cases of akathisia. Especially long-term use and rapid tapers and cold turkeys. But I'm telling you first hand that I've had akathisia 3 times in the last 20 years. The first time for an entire year. And without benzos to treat it, I'd be dead for sure. I was on a long list of meds that I've gotten off of, and benzos were the only thing that would calm the akathisia down at its very worst. But it's important to know the risk related with the benzos as well. As soon as I'd notice the akathisia starting to dissapate(I could still feel it underneath the benzo and I could tell when it had started to go away). I'd immediately start doing a slow taper off the benzo. And this worked for me, and like I said, saved my life each time because it was so bad I couldn't stand another second of it. In fact, the first time, I was locked up for 9 months because of multiple suicide attempts.

I believe that I suffered from tardive akasthisia. Thank you for your true description
I’m so fucking happy I don’t have to deal with this anymore. I was put on heavy doses of antipsychotics because I went into deep psychosis after years of drug addiction. They only gave me five 1mg pills of Ativan because I was an addict and they never prescribed them again. I suffered for years with this. My dad thought it was me being high on meth when I couldn’t keep still and he would yell and scream at me to sit down and stop literally flailing my arms and legs around because it was making me further lose my mind. But it was the antipsychotics. I had been a high functioning addict for years before I inevitably went into psychosis. Meth never once did anything like that to me. It caused me so much more added stress having these symptoms on top of the psychosis and the on and off again withdrawal symptoms. Ive been clean for almost two years (will be 2 years on July 12). I’ve been off of my anti psychotics for a year and a half now. Still dealing with delusional thoughts/beliefs and hallucinations but I’ve learnt to coexist with it. Don’t do drugs, kids. Seriously.
Thank you for all you do Josef. I have Protracted Withdrawal and still get bouts of intense inner terror/ chemical terror with obsessive negative ruminating thoughts 5 years out. Are you saying Akathisia usually resolves in 2 to 10 days with medication treatment? It’s the long term symptoms that are killing people. I believe any of us who have suffered iatrogenic harm from psych drugs, if told 10 days, can last 10 days. I absolutely support all your work wholeheartedly, but I feel this video does not represent Akathisia well particularly, particularly the recovery timing.
I still have it almost 10 years after I stopped the Abilify. The, I was hospitalized. But I tend to get a lot of anxiety and a lot of the time it’s a similar feeling of doom as I used to get. It can either cause me to rock back and forth or pace the floor. In fact I was told not to visit my father in the morning due to my sister has meetings almost all day long. It’s a shame. Because, the anxiety can be all day long or just in the afternoons. I can’t help it and feel that maybe I am being a nuisance. The worst thing is that I get these attacks in the afternoon and they can be intense.

What do you have against akathesia ? Like , me I take a very cold shower , it helps a little bit , I take vitamin B6 and magnesium . sea salt + water glass to drink ... I try anything possible even rife sound frequency
It's been four years and four different horrific adverse drug reactions (that resulted in akathisia), and only today did someone tell me the word "akathisia", so I've been googling it and youtubing it. It's indescribably horrible to be given a drug that instantly makes your brain turn on itself (I had to fight my own hands from trying to claw my eyes out, it was hell beyond words). But to make it worse, to not have terminology for it, and not have doctors take it seriously. :( The first time it happened was in 2019 when I was given Compazine. I was truly traumatized for about two days, BUT after two days I felt back to my normal. Several months later I was convinced to try Effexor, and had the same reaction. This time it took about a week of feeling traumatized before I felt back to normal. Third time was when I was convinced to try Prozac, same horrific reaction (this is like escaping a horror movie and thinking you're finally safe, but then finding yourself back in the horror movie). It took longer than a week to feel back to myself, but the scarier thing was that I began having short panic attacks that directly resembled the akathisia (which had never happened without the drug first being given), so it was terrifying that i could now experience the horror randomly. :*( But the worst part is, that after my fourth (and so far final) akathisia attack (to Reglan) in June 2020, I have never been the same since, and it's been three years. :*( Certain things trigger it. Like if I hear beeping, I start to feel terrified and freaked out, and if the beeping continues, I then feel the intense violent urge to claw my eyes out. It's left me with PTSD that I'm still trying to recover from, and having it been three years it's making me wonder if it will always be there. :*( And it's made a bad situation so much worse when all my doctors haven't taken this seriously at all. I am comforted though at least, that I've finally found the word for it about an hour ago, Akathisia. And this is the first video I've watched on it (I plan to watch many more). Thank you for sharing what you know of Akathasia, but just know as someone who's experienced it multiple times and has been left with PTSD from it, that you're describing it very mildly. It'd be like watching a video of what it's like to experience the electric chair, and someone calmly saying, "they experience some discomforting sensations". 😆😆😆 No but for real thank you for sharing your knowledge on this, this is something that needs to be more widely talked about, to both patients and people in the medical community. I've talked about my horrific experiences with two therapists, two psychiatrists, and two neurologists, and none of them understood what happened to me, nor mentioned the word akathisia. I've been going through this hell, and I've been going through it alone. Thankfully I've found the strength to find a way to persevere, but had all my medical professionals that I've desperately sought help from known what Akathisia was and how horrific it really is, perhaps I wouldn't have suffered nearly as much as I did.

Same for me. Same experience. How are you now, it's been a while?
Why Ativan ? Why not Xanax or Rivotril?
So nobody mentioned no one told me when I start taking Saphris by the way, don’t drink on it well I pretty much quit drinking once I got on Safras but every once in a while I have three or four Mike’s harder lemonade from about 8 o’clock to 12 AM and then I took my Saphris to go to bed and the first time that happened where the akathisia hit I had no idea what was happening I’ve had it happen 17 times…. So basically what happens I will pace from about 12 AM to 5am. It’s the closest that you can get to what psychologically I would think that a person would feel and hell… it is an overwhelming loss of hope…. It’s as if you are actually projected into a abyss of just absolute doom. And I could see or somebody would freak out if that happened to him and they didn’t know what was happening and they commit suicide. I just learned that you just endure for five hours and it goes away that is if you’ve been drinking… off. You have to pace yourself silly till you pass out. I can’t explain it it’s just fucking hell.
A doctor gave me bromide today because I was sick and it made me feel like I had this energy in me that I couldn't contrate in anything and can't stop walking
Can it resolve after 10 years ? Drs put my non verbal autistic son on it years ago and more he moved the higher they upped the dose.
Mental torture. Inner restlessness. Restless leg syndrome. Its horrible. I had it when starting Prozac.
Is it possible to get akasthesia from venlafaxine? I developed these symptoms in 2015 after a psychiatrist kept upping my dose of Effexor despite it causing me to develop a movememt disorder as well as psychosis. Alhough I was never diagnosed, I was prescribed clonazepam by a neurologist which in my case was a life saving medication. I eventually lowered my dose to 0.5 mg and have been taking that for years. It's actually entirely possible that my akasthesia has resolved and I may not even need my clonazepam but the thought of quitting it 😢 I'm not an addict who misuses clonazepam but there is no doubt that I'm dependent on it and that I would have horrible withdrawals.

I got akathisia as a side effect of a cocktail of meds (which included fluoxetine and bupropion. Don't remember what else, maybe it was just the two, but it must have been something else too. I think aripiprazole. I had the impression that fluoxetine was doing it, but I could be wrong. I had been taking it with mirtazapine with no akathisia, but as soon as I stopped mirtazapine, fluoxetine was really wrong for me on its own (or after a certain period of time, which was 3 months maybe? Not sure.). I don't think it was bupropion or aripiprazole or even the whole combo, but don't remember very well anymore. I was also taking zolpidem at night which was my only relief all day and to which I was looking so much forward.). For me, akathisia was like my whole body was a bag full of squirming worms and also almost like involuntary movement or the need for it, at least to be expressed once in a while (Tourette's comes to mind). I ended up asking my mother to give me cleaning chores because I had to do something with myself. My doctor had said we would see if the combo worked after the 12th day. I lasted 11 days. Maybe I could have lasted 12, but it seemed very unlikely to me that that awful intense feeling would suddenly go away completely after the 12th day. Or that such a beginning would become beneficial once I passed the 12th day mark. It felt pointless and masochistic.

Me too. I'm addicted of xanax, mu dr prescribe it to me 17 months ago, then gave me bromazepam, ativan and klonopin to cure my panic attack's. Never said that the benzodiazepins are the worest drugs than heroin! I cannot quit it😢. The withdrawal symptoms are terrifying. I must eat this sh...t, because I can't function daily without it. It's horrible. We all addicted must fight to quit benzos, BUT HOW ??? With hugs for everyone, who suffer of the benzos addiction.😢
The problem is that according to doctors akathisia is a side effect you can only have when you arre ON the drug... so stopping it makes sense... But most of "side effects" described in leadlets are instead toxic effects... and stopping the drug then won"t help or instead will make things worse... It's very confusing to the patients.... So side effects = toxic effect but not always... I got akathisia from STOPPING antidepressant, not from being put ON it....
From one hell to another, if you take benzos. I did cold turkey from 2 ssris. I did not take benzos, even it was hell! I did not want to have more problems!
Why use benzo? benzo can cause Akathisia i dont get it?
Except when caused by a benzo, then you are in for a trip to death’s door….
Ativan only slightly helps, benztropine completely cured my akathisia.

This video under plays it it also does not go into detail of the 508 different drugs that can cause it including antibiotics antivirals anti nausea antidepressant antipsychotics just about every kind of drug there is. You can give someone that’s gotten from benzos benzo if they have been abruptly stopped. Drugging makes it worse. It needs to be mentioned that doctors do not know the side effect and misdiagnosis Take place all the time.

You are right.
I tell you a doctor if you want to know what it feels like and I think you should the same way like every police officer knows what it’s like to get tased by getting tased themselves. I would suggest that you take 10 mg of Saphris or and then drink about till your alcohol blood level is about .10. Then you’ll receive the wonderful experience 5 to 6 hours. It’s always temporary if you mix alcohol with Saphris that’s the good news is good news is it goes away
Isn’t this vid past its shelf-life date? Oughta take it down. You’ve gotten hella lotta feedback from ppl suffering from akathisia from being prescribed…wait for it… benzodiazepines. Still recommend prescribing them for akathisia? So we can go from Dante’s 9th circle of hell to the 9th? No typo; can’t get any worse. Presently on long-term Xanax taper & not liking this dark, painful place.
Akathisia is like literally being in hell. Funny thing is, you would never know fr9m looking at someone that internally, they are living a nightmare. The last time I had it was after a 2nd surgery in 2 weeks to remove my thyroid. Here I am fresh out of surgery and I’m pacing the hallways all night long like a mad man. I could not sit still. I tried. I tried meditating. I tried Li’s to calming music . I was compelled to move. I’m sure the nurses thought I was nuts. They wanted to give me tramodol and some anti nausea medicine. I declined. Who knows what more medication would do. Luckily, the next morning it started lifting and in three days i was OK. My sympathies to anyone who has or is going through this.
I've had akathesia for 6 years now from them forcibly taking me off a high dose of clonazapam.

I think it's to do with your nerve endings? Your nerve endings are somewhat dulled down when on many of these toxins. When you withdraw the nerve endings fire back up again, but in overdrive...hence why it feels like an itchy bone sort of feeling or millions tiny electric shocks. It's only my opinion however...I could be wrong.

Super low dopamine, most likely, given that many of these drugs block the dopamine receptors in the brain. This is why many people report that having sex or masturbating gives them a temporary relief.

Cogentin helped my akathesia after benzo withdrawal
I had this from a single dose of 5mg pill of Ativan (benzodiazepine). This was given to me before laser eye surgery to take the “edge” off. I had almost no anxiety going in and took it just to see what it did…what a mistake. I had no mental health issues before or since. I could feel it kick in like a wave washing over my body, it happened just as the surgery was starting and I thought let’s just get through this. This thing made me want to crawl out of my own skin, restless super uncomfortable, no matter what I did (sit/stand/lay down) nothing helped. The overwhelming feeling of agitation and restlessness was infuriating. I’ve never felt this way before or after…it’s truly a nightmare. What helped? My partner gave me a good dose of NyQuil to knock me out. I was fine a few hours later and no issues ever since. That was 1 pill!!!! I couldn’t imagine being on this and stopping, it’s a mental and physical horror. Stay the f away from these if possible. ❤ and hope to all afflicted.
