What is Active Inference?...with Daniel Friedman

In this interview, Daniel Friedman introduces us to a conceptual framework called Active Inference. Active Inference can be used to help us understand how we perceive ourselves the world, how we act in the world and how we make sense of the world.
Daniel has a fascinating academic background which began in biology and genetics. His PhD involve led studying ant colony behaviour. He co-founded the Active inference Lab.
The lens of active inference may also help us make sense of the predictive nature of interoceptive bodily sensations.

This is both a demanding and remarkable conversation about Active Inference, which I've been struggling to understand in the context of my work as a coaching supervisor. The interplay between Ian Tennent's deceptively simple questions and Daniel Friedman's instant grasp of, and reflections on, their underlying meaning is a joy to behold. Every answer adds another piece to the jigsaw. Although its conciseness meant I had to go through it slowly, line by line, to get it all, it has been well worth the effort.

"map is not the territory" 14:00 Totally agreed! Basically the Humanity together building up the Map ever greater, 5000 years ago we did not have just a smaller Map, now we have bigger Map, but still just starting to map out even the Observable space for us. The Territory we do not know how big or small, only we have Maps. Any entity only has Maps what is constructed. (A little Donald Hoffman there.)
