In the episode where they go into the dreaming, it's revealed that there are too many Mimbari with Valen's DNA to be counted. As for why the other human's made the triluminary glow, it could be that it specifically tracks mitocondrial DNA for which Sinclair may have shared with a large portion of human society.

Linear also said that in recent centuries fewer Minbari had been born and they seemed of lesser quality. I think the implication was that the rift that Sinclair, Zarthras and Babylon 4 went through had caused souls that had once been born into Mumbai to be born into Humans.

Something to note, in season 3, when Delen goes through the whispering gallery. The curator that she has come with her, explains that there are many children of Valen, so many that they can't be counted. Also, it stands to reason, that the triliminary would glow when it comes in contact with any human DNA. Remember, when the gray Council started bringing humans aboard, at the Battle of the line, that was the first time they had actually encountered a human face-to-face with the try luminary.

Enjoyed the video. I really suggest you go back and watch the season 4 episode Atonement. I think that’s the name. Delenn goes into “the dreaming” as someone else mentioned. It will answer a lot of your questions and is actually the footage a lot of the scenes you reference originate. It will also give you a deeper view into the connection between delenn and dukhat.

He might of answered this. Babylon 5 Encyclopedia probably has some answers also you can find it paperback or hardcover on Amazon

The glow is probably a trick of detecting a specific section of human DNA. As such it would glow for all humans, but only for a Minbari who had that segment. While Valen may have ended up with countless descendants, the probability of that section of DNA showing up may have kept going down in the same way visible in mixed race individuals on earth.

I thought Valen, or some of his children, wound up leaving Mimbari society and going to ancient Earth. This could be why there are descendants of Valen among the Mimbari and humans. Plus, it'd fit the LOTR parallel the show was going for.

Quick maths: If Minbari have 3 offspring every 50 year generation and its been 1000 years since the last shadow war. 3 ^ 20 = almost 3.5 BILLION Minbari that could have Sinclair's DNA. If they only have 2 children each generation, 2 ^ 20 = 1 Million Minbari. If generations are 100 years, and they have 3 children during that time, 3^10 = 60,000 Minbari.

The Triluminary is Sinclair's communications link. Look at the shape. It was programed only to work for him. As for transforming people from Mimbari to human, that could be the machine the Triluminary was attached to. Using the information in the link to transform the person from one race to another. As for why it glowed. Its missing its case and may have been shorting out some.

I mean the thing exists for exactly one purpose. To ensure the Minbari didn't exterminate the human race or kill Sinclair because that would undo the time traveling shenanigans the Vorlons pulled to make Babylon 4 and Sinclair (Valen) the rallying point of their previous war with the Shadows 1000 years in the past. The Vorlons needed the war to happen to encourage the creation of the Babylon stations (a very Shadow like strategy IMHO, they must have been desperate), but they also needed a way to end the war before the humans where exterminated without revealing their hand (getting caught playing God has backfired on them before), so they had Valen present the Minbari with the Triluminary 1000 years in the past and manipulate them into believing it could detect souls, trusting events would play out as "recorded" if they just remained cryptic and did not overtly interfere any further. They may also have planned for Delen to transform herself to create a new uniting figurehead for the army of light, but for whatever reason they did not use time travel again to ensure events transpired as planned beyond that point. Maybe the time travelers where rogue Vorlons who took drastic measures to pull out a win that the rest of their society did not approve of. Kinda like the original Kosh was a bit of a rebel himself breaking the "rules" and forcing a direct confrontation between Vorlons and Shadows rater than just another proxy war.

If the Triluminary was meant to glow when it detected Valen's DNA in Minbari, could it be that it was simply designed to recognize and react to human DNA? That would explain why it glowed both in the presence of descendants of Valen (thanks to Sinclair's and/or Catherine Sakai's DNA) and the other humans they tested it on at the Battle of the Line.

It would pretty much go that while the first hybridization was taking place (with sinclair turning into Valin) that all non-compatable parts of the human races DNA chain would be discarded, leaving only the more primitive (primevil) evolutionary strands of DNA within the Human races historic genome to be what could be linked to the likewise ancient Minbari genetic chain (in actual scientific reserch the farther back one analyzes the Human races Genetic strains to its most primitive startings, the more one finds ancient parallel similarities in evolution between humanity and many of the other terrestrial evolutionary life forms of mammalian lines for instance, so it could go to float that the closer to ancient microbrial life that one could study (even on totally alien worlds) the more that one could find evolutionary parallels between lines of Carbon based life (early on) so it could be that the reason why the 'triluminary' read as "Positive" on so many human beings didn't need to be because they had Sinclairs DNA so to speak, but that they all had the same DNA strand section that was leftover as evidence of Valins compatilble hereditary leftovers of alien DNA that the Triluminary was registering during their tests...

I did NOT read all comments! Do you guys really not know where the Triluminary came from? It is not mentioned in the video and there are so many guesses about how it works, but I think there are a few lines of dialogue that clear that. But for that, I must travel on a voyage of knowledge! One think I did not get an answer to. Where did it come from?

DNA is very complex. I doubt the triluminary glowed for a 100% match but probably for key genetic markers particular to humans. Delen had those markers as a descendant of Valen. Think of it how in Stargate some humans have the Ancient gene needed to activate Ancient technology. The genetic “key” doesn’t look for a perfect match…just matches on key chromosomes.

I thought it glowed in the presence of Valen's Soul?

No, it glows when it comes into contact with Valen's DNA. This fact is presented to us in Babylon 5 "in the beginning". You should watch it if you haven't had the chance yet. :)
