    Good video. A few additional clarifications. First, there should usually be only one Accountable person for any given WBS deliverable or Schedule activity. The buck has to stop with one-and only one-person. In contrast, there can be multiple R, C, and I people linked to each deliverable or activity. I think you have it backwards in the video. “Responsible” means those that do the actual work, while “Accountable” is the one that owns the work and ultimately will sign off on it. Second, the “I” element is not just for those that are to be “informed as a courtesy” as you said; instead, it’s primarily for those stakeholders that *must* be informed. These are often folks that need to know how the work is proceeding, decisions that are being made, and so on, as it affects them in some way or other. For example, another department may need to know of certain decisions or shifting deadlines because it impacts their planning. They’re not accountable, responsible, or even consulted during the work, but they are impacted by it, so need to be kept informed. If you want to add others “as a courtesy,” fine, but that’s not the purpose for the “I” in RACI. Otherwise, good informative video. Cheers!

    Hi Mark…thanks for your comment and I am glad you find it an informative video. Regarding your accountability comment. Theoretically you are correct. The reality is in a lot of large organization accountability is shared between two department and/or directors….depending on the deliverable/activity. It is always best to ensure only one person is assigned. This leads me to R…responsibility. Only one person should have ownership for being responsible otherwise you have the same issue as Accountability. If the person responsible chooses to include others in completing the deliverable/ activity, they are still the one who is responsible that it gets done. On a side note…I find that RACIs are a tool that is difficult to sustain as someone needs to own (one person) the overall RACI and ensure everyone is following through especially when the RACI is used for post project sustainment.

    Hmmmm! Here are a few suggestions. 1. Contrast and explain the concepts of Ownership, Accountability and Responsibility and, if they left, what would their work look like 2. Consider the practice of Last Planner System from the Construction industry vs RACI 3. We use the term Management in an arrogant way: Project Management, Change Management, etc. What would happen if we only used System Management and we called everything else: acumens: Project Acumen, Risk acumen, etc 4. Finally, let's introduce the idea of Deliberate Learning and Studying. What impact would that have on better structuring on everything that we do?
