Truthfully? I always thought a sham was a fancy pillow case. I didn't realize there were that many differences! Seriously, I put my pillow on the bed, then the sham on top to make it all look nice! LOL

Great information. Having stayed in many hotel rooms, you learn quickly the difference in feel, appearance and usage of shams and pillow cases. This is great knowledge and sleepopolis is the place to learn it!

Okay... Fist of all, you've taught me so much and I'm loving it. 😭 I never knew all of these fancy terms. 🛌 I would love a recommendation from you - I'm mostly a back sleeper, the occasional side sleeper. I've been having such terrible (the back of my) neck pain and it's killing me. 😫 So much so that I stopped using a pillow all together and roll up a car cleaning rag that I had lying around. I find myself needing to place my palm at the back of my neck on the ball like feeling bone the can give us "nerd neck" which I do have just to support the awful pain. I purchased the Sutera pillow back in 2020, it worked at first but then began to give me more pain and HEADACHES. Same is happening with my parter. He's more a side sleeper but also back sleeper and is having the same issues as me. His shoulders are broader than mine of course and when he sleeps on his sides he gets shoulder pain too. We're a mess! lol Please, please help us with some recommendations. 🙏🏽🫂

I was intrigued when I saw European pillow shams in a store. I always got shams in a bedding set. Did not realize they sold them separately. These are awesome! Thanks for the info!

I love the way shams pull it all together and make it all look so nice, but sometimes I just don't want to hassle with putting them back on my own bed in the morning if I am in a hurry.

Decorative is the key word! I have 6 pillows on my bed 2 have pillow shams the rest have pillow cases!

This video really helped me understand what a pillow sham was. Just bought a Duvet and sham from ZGallery online and thought the sham was a pillow. When I got it was I surprised. Love the shsm but now I need to check out your other video for the best pillow. Great job on the video. It really helped this knuckle head.

A Pillow Sham for me is a covering over new pillows to decorate my bed and will be my future sleeping pillow when My pillows go flat. OR SOMETIMES its the other way around..lol

Good to know the difference. I have two pillows with shams on them, three with cases and one that is missing its case. The ones with sham are actually sometimes more comfortable than the ones meant for sleeping on.

My wife and I were just researching this yesterday! lol. We had to look it up because she wanted "fancy" pillowcases.

I usually use pillows that have a sham on them as something to prop my body up if I’m lying on the floor or use them to hug or something along those lines because they are so not comfortable to sleep on but still provide bulk. We only really have them in the living room on our couches.

I've always had pillow shams on bed. On top of reg pillows. Just makes it prettier.

We use 2 pillow shams just to help sit upright on the bed more comfortably

How do you measure your pillow sham so you can get the right size pillow my Shams are huge

I like the accent it gives. I try to do plain sheets and my 2 pillow shams would be the ones that have some sort of pattern or design.

I make my hubby crazy with my pillow shams! He cannot understand why we have to keep tucking our pillows into this "contraption", as he puts it, only to take it back out again to sleep - LOL! We are still having the same conversation, 40 yrs. later!

I had never thought the differences between pillow shams and pillow cases as I have never owned a pillow sham. Oh, wait, I did have pillow cases with flange borders....I guess I have owned pillow shams! Very educational. Thank you, as always!

It's good to know the difference between the euro and standard. I don't think I would buy pillow shams unless they were apart of a nice sheet set.

I have pillow shams that came with my quilts to match. They are my favorite! Super soft and protective. I’d rather use shams then pillow cases tbh

I no longer use pillow shams. I only have the two pillows we use with a satin or silk pillow cover.

I used to put shams on my pillows every morning when i made the bed but it got annoying so i stopped

Pillow shams look good, but I prefer to just use pillowcases that match the sheet set

I thought that was the difference. I always take my pillows that have a pillow sham off the bed at night and replace it in the morning when I make my bed.

I don't use the shams that came with my bedding set. Pillows should be used.
