What is a Percent? Calculate & Use Percentages Step-by-Step.

In this video, we will explore the concept of percentages in math. Percentages are a crucial part of mathematics and are used in a wide range of real-life applications, from calculating discounts at the store to determining the success rate of medical treatments.
We will start by defining what a percentage is and how it is related to fractions and decimals. We will explain the meaning of the term "percent" and how to write percentages in different formats. We will also demonstrate how to convert percentages to fractions and decimals and vice versa.
Next, we will delve into the various applications of percentages in mathematics. We will discuss how percentages are used in calculating percentage change, percentage increase, and percentage decrease. We will demonstrate how to use percentages to solve problems involving tax, commission, and interest.
We will then explore the relationship between percentages, ratios, and proportions. We will explain how to use percentages to compare quantities and find ratios and proportions. We will also discuss how to use percentages in probability and statistics.
Throughout the video, we will provide examples and practical exercises to help viewers understand and practice the concepts discussed. We will also provide tips and tricks for mastering percentages, including shortcuts for mental calculations and common mistakes to avoid.
Whether you are a student struggling with percentages in school, or an adult looking to refresh your math skills, this video will provide you with a comprehensive and engaging introduction to the world of percentages in mathematics.

Jason, I appreciate your instruction. Although I already have my BA, it's always important to keep these concepts fresh in our minds. If you don't use it, you lose. At almost 67 years young, it's good to review once in a while to keep my mind sharp. If ever one of my granddaughters needs help with theirs mathematics, i can help assist them.

You are the best tutor on KZread. Thanks for all the help and support u have been rendering to students, I will love to watch your video on Fourier transforms (I have been trying to understand it from some channels but the more I watch the more confused I become). I will be very grateful and honoured if you can make a video on the above topic because my exam is 6th of May and you are my last hope. Thanks for your support (we really appreciate and we are proud of you). Keep up the good work

I have lots of Spanish-speaking students. I remind them that the Spanish word for 100 is cien (Latin 'centum'). So, 'per-cent' can be translated to "per 100".

Sir Jason is awesome..I can remember only of .. ALL NUMBERS without any identifying Marks ..dividing the Number by tenth , hundredth , thousandth , ten thousandth The DECIMAL is always at the end of the NUMBER and Count every move to the LEFT ... AS , 1, 2, 3 , 4, ETC...and that will be the NUMBER OF DECIMAL PLACES.. VERY HARD..WE ALWAYS MAKE MISTAKES IN WRITING OF COUNTING AND MAKE IT INTO A DECIMAL NUMBER. IT. TOOK ME 6 YEARS TO. UNDERSTAND AND WHAT IS THE MEANING OF FRACTIONATION , PERCENTAGES ,AND DECIMALS. SIR. JASON YOU ARE THE BEST OF ALL INSTRUCTORS EVEN COMPARING YOU IN MY. UNIVERSITY LECTURES.. AND MORE.. THANK YOU SIR..JASON YOU LIGHT THE LIFE OF SO MANY. INCLUDING MYSELF..

What is a little complicated is determining what is the number you have to divide the fraction for. The way l do it is starting to get HALF, THIRD, FOURTH, etc of the fraction

Hi Jason, In the 3rd lesson of (Calculus 1 Limits) series I didn't understand when you say " the top of the fraction is going down to zero and the bottom of the fraction is also going to zero but they're not going to zero at the same speed one of these fractions is going one of these parts numerator or denominator is approaching zero faster than the other.

  • @MathAndScience

Say the numerator is x^2, and the denominator is just x. As x->0, what happens? Well the bottom goes to zero as you expect but the top is squared. So the numerator goes to zero much faster. Say x=0.25. The bottom will be 0.25. But the tip will be (0.5)(0.5) = 0.25. So the fraction at that value of x is: 0.25/0.5 So as x approaches zero the numerator will get closer to zero much sooner and will dominate the calculation.

You are not going to believe, I applied for Executive Secretary job and I had a test that was 1 hour 30m. It was English test, spelling, vocabularies, text interpretation and the rest was massive amount of percent, all kind of percent problem: basic, medium, advanced scenario for financial field, budget, etc. You have to rush to read the problems, understand and then calculate. I was wondering am going to for the CFO guy(Finances Dept) or for the CEO guy(Administrative role)?. I failed. I am weak on math and I had to rush that made even worse. I have to study. Even if you know the whole thing, but if you have to resolve very fast too many questions, thus prone to fail.

Just out of interest, is it a US thing to call 1/4 one fourth, or 3/4 as 3 fourths as opposed to 1 or 3 quarters as is said in the UK? We both say 1 half. Noticed this on other US channels.
