What is a Neuron? Parts and Function
👉Check out my official Psych Explained Merch 🧠: psych-explained.creator-sprin...
In this video, Dr. Kushner covers the parts and function of a neuron. And, three basic types of neurons: motor neuron (efferent), sensory neuron (afferent), and interneuron.
"The human brain has 100 billion neurons, each neuron connected to 10 thousand other neurons. Sitting on your shoulders is the most complicated object in the known universe" - Michio Kaku

You are an exceptional teacher. My middle schooler and I are learning about the neuron and neuromuscular system. We've watched a few other KZread videos but were left confused and didn't learn much. You broke it down in a way we can understand. Thank you for taking the time to explain the parts and functions using words that a non-medical person can grasp and done so in a point A to B fashion. You delivered well. The visuals, definitions of terms, mentioning the various names for the same thing - were all so helpful. We also watched your video on Action Potential, which is also exceptional. Thank you.

That’s so great! Thank you for the kind words. Is there any other topic your middle schooler is interested in? I’ll try to put together a video 😎

These videos are amazing and helpful, and you are amazing for making these! Thank you for what you do!!
This video literally saved my life! I was rummaging through so many resources to try and understand this concept! Thank you so much!
I have been seeing these diagrams and explanations since I was in college; however, you have given the best lecture on this than I have heard yet. What seems to be missing in my understanding is the next couple of macro steps that explain: filtering, rejecting, and networking of electro impulses at the axion field of tissue. Then, of course, the next macro step of messaging by either consolidation or separation of the electro/chemical impulses. I certainly hope you can address these with the same eloquence as you didn’t the micro level or the neuron. Thanks for doing these.
Excellent Explanation. Easy to understand. Thank you so much.
Thank you, Doc. This makes sense. I have seen this for years and read up on it. But this was explained so well. Easy to understand.

This is the first time listening to your lecture and I teally enjoyed. Can you tell me whether a bewborn will have the abovementioned structure in place once being born. What happens to a premature infant, say 26 weeker, 30 or 32 weeker. I work with neonates so I am interested to learn. Thank you in advance. I also just watched your hippocampus lecture, I will like to know the same questions in terms structure and development of various gestation and its impact.
great, thanks a lot❤

Thanks for joining our community!!
so my thought 'I want to eat an apple' gets encoded in a chemical signal? how does that look?
@PsychExplained
16 күн бұрын
Yep 👍 Obviously simplifying but: Hypothalamus receives signals that you are hungry - signals the cortex which triggers a thought “I am hungry” - motor cortex sends efferent neurons to your arm to reach for an apple 🍎- eat!!!
Yap✌️
So our brain is like a computer that understand zeros and one the mylinated and unmylinated
this is great but the pronunciation of Myelin is driving my brain wonkers... (I've always learned it as My-Lynn not My-Lon... reminds me of cylon from Battlestar Galactica).

One of the best break downs but I had to tell you, idk why people do this when explaining one thing but when you randomly detract from what you're teaching by telling us "I'll talk about that in another video" and then never explain it... SOOOOO ANNOYING. Why bring it up if you're not going to talk about it? Just to aggravate listeners?
