What Is A Ganglion Cyst - Everything You Need To Know - Dr. Nabil Ebraheim

Dr. Ebraheim’s educational animated video describes what is a ganglion cyst.
Follow me on twitter:
#!/DrEbraheim_UTMC
A ganglion cyst is a benign cyst that is filled with a jelly-like fluid. Ganglion means a “knot”. It is not a malignant tumor; it is just a soft tissue mass. Ganglion cysts are not cancerous and will not spread. This mass may change in size, and it may grow slowly. Ganglion cysts usually do not cause any harm and if the patient finds it, the patient is usually more concerned about how the cyst looks. These cysts can put pressure on the nerves, vessels, and tendons which can cause problems for the patient. Ganglion cysts can occur anywhere. They usually occur at the wrist area, however ganglion cysts may occur at the foot (usually at the top of the foot). Ganglion cysts can occur around the shoulder, around the knee, or even occur in the bone itself. Ganglion cysts around the foot or the wrist will usually transilluminate because it is not a solid cyst; there is fluid inside the ganglion cyst. Ganglion cysts will transilluminate.
Treatment of Ganglion Cysts
Ganglion cysts that do not bother the patient are usually left alone. Aspiration will decompress the ganglia and decrease the pressure on the adjacent structures. Surgery is done as a last resort to treat ganglion cysts. It is usually done when the ganglion cyst causes the patient pain or harm such as pressure being placed on the nerves, vessels, and tendons.

I should get confirmation from the lab this next week, though the dermatologist didn't offer any speculation on what it could be. This video explanation makes me think that is the likely result. I also have what could be one on my foot, but it doesn't really me. The one on my wrist felt like a nail was being stabbed into my arm every time i bumped it.

    I got one the size of a marble on my right hand. It was on the tendon that goes to my thumb and it would move as I flexed my thumb. It appeared after somebody started a fight with me and I punched their head and face over 20 times. The Doctor tried to pop it with his hand, then he tried to suck it out with a needle but he said it was solid. The cyst caused pain for 2 years until I had surgery. It never came back. I don’t know how this works but it’s neat, I have studied many curious subjects over the years as my Grandfather who raised me was a psychic clairvoyant, palm reader and faith healer. SafePet Haven - Ganglion cysts used to be called Bible Cysts because they’re cysts that could be treated by simply hitting them with a heavy book, much like a Bible, hence the name. Now, this treatment is outdated due to situations like yours. But, I have seen people continue treating their cysts by hitting it with a book simply because they can’t afford to go to the doctor.

    Sorry to hear :( have you been to a dr? I went to one after severe wrist pain when flexing/holding heavier objects. They immediately recognised it as a ganglion cyst pressing upon the median nerve - causing severe discomfort or pain, but was reassured that this pain causes ZERO damage and problems (wonderful news). So we know it's purely painful, and it can be treated via 'bible thumping' (whacking it w/ blunt force to burst it, which has a 22-66% success rate roughly from the literature of around 300 ppl who had it). Or you can have it aspired/drained or surgery if it's tricky to reach. It'll go away eventually or you can have it fixed by speaking w/ a doctor, I promise! Best wishes.

    Easy Peasey... and cheap too. Lay your hand on a counter. Take a large book and slam down on it. You might have to do it a couple of times. The cyst bursts and the liquid is absorbed into your body. No problem. It hurts a little but not as much as paying huge doctor bills. My sister is an or nurse and has watched these being drained. She recommended the book method. She was right. I did it to myself, but if you can find someone to slam the book, more the better. BTW, I have been a nurse 30+ years.
