What is a Chemical Peel?

Chemical Peels are treatments that can improve the skin’s appearance by peeling off an old layer of skin to reveal the healthy new skin below. The ingredient used in the chemical peel solution makes the skin redden, and when the skin peels off, the skin below it is smoother, healthier, and less wrinkled.

Hi, I'm Jamie LaPoint at Center for Aesthetic and Laser Medicine and today we're going to talk about chemical peels. We offer several types of different chemical peels depending on the issue you want to target, how aggressive you want to be, and how fast you want to get results. The lighter peels, there's zero downtime for it. It's perfect before a special event to just get a nice glow and dissolve some dead skin to reveal fresher, smoother skin. We also have more aggressive peels that we consider medium-depth, can target a little deeper issues, such as acne scars, pigmentation, and even fine lines and wrinkles.
A great candidate for chemical peels is anyone suffering from any type of acne. Chemical peels target acne in different ways. We have some that include benzoyl peroxide which can kill bacteria, salicylic acid which actually pulls oil out of the pores, even alpha hydroxy acid, just as glycolic lactic acid which unglues dead skin so that the breakouts can't form. You can expect results in one week from a chemical peel and it is recommended to do one once a month for up to six treatments. When you come in for your consultation we will sit down and discuss what your concerns are and which chemical peel would be best suited for your needs. If your issue is mostly fine lines and wrinkles we'll probably do a TCA peel that can target those deeper layers of the skin a little better and reveal fresher, smoother skin.
