Keloid scars are usually a result of having a lot of collagen in your body. Revisions of keloid scars usually result in worse keloid scarring.

Silicone strips are the best. They are waterproof and lasts for up to 2 weeks. I used on a hysterectomy scar and the line became white and blended into my skin color...making it almost invisible! Something to beware of is, you want to make sure you are fully healed on exterior skin otherwise silicone can actually be counter productive.

You could use Vaseline instead of silicone! Yes, regular Vaseline. It moisturizes and softens not only the scar itself, but also the healthy skin around the scar, increases blood flow in the scar area and promotes skin regeneration. This is the method used by the Russians. Scar treatment in this way is effective and cheap. Vaseline is applied as soon as the wound heals.

Makes more sense to stick with the silicone and wear upf 50+ clothing over it. (Or just a diy upf bandage) Even if you don't have upf rated clothes, you can hold your clothes up to the sun to see how much light it lets through. Usually natural fabrics (cotton, linen) perform worse, and less breathable, tightly woven synthetics perform better. Darker colours perform a lot better than lighter colours. Basically you have to go against your intuition of what you'd want to wear in the summer heat.

Scars are still there and I hate them. They are much flatter but I still hate them and am self conscious in swimsuit. One of the scars is 4 inches. :(. The other 3 are smaller. I don’t understand why the surgeon didn’t make a bigger deal out of these scars especially when he could have gone through my C-section scar. Is Scar Revision a good option?

I had breast augmentation yrs ago. I developed thick raised keloid scars. Dr told me some people do some people don’t. After many complications hematomas, infections, capsules, rock hard breasts, switched to saline- one ruptured! Sick of the whole thing!Had them 0:10 removed. 5 yrs later, lots of research, went to a new dr. He did a lift, textured implants, silicone inside, I told him how much I hated the scars I had. He looked at them+ said he would remove them+ I would have no scars. I thought he was exaggerating a little. Had 275cc in left breast 250cc in right. Never had one problem. Breasts look+ feel like normal breasts. No one can tell. And- I have NO scars! Zero! I was( am) elated! I would advise the implants that have silicone, inside a textured bag. No hardening. Flexible, can’t feel anything different than my own natural breast tissue. I had the surgery in part due to one breast being a “ C” cup+ the other being an “A” cup. I’ve seen great looking implants on Trans mtf+ I’ve seen terrible. Choose your surgeon carefully!! 😊

Your surgeon is definitely the most important part of the equation! All of those complications can be linked to him. Leading cause of capsular contracture is when the operation isn’t 100% sterile. Same with infectious afterwards and definitely scar formation as well! Unfortunately these things CAN be linked to other things as well so we’d have a hard time providing they were at fault but …when it all of those things happen at the same time…pretty safe to say that your original surgeon didn’t know what he was doing. I’m glad you finally found a good one and got what you wanted though! 😊

My dermatologist recommended Biocorneum. Silicone gel. It's available online. I just started using it, but my scar is small and I'm not really worried about it. Before the Biocorneum arrived, I used Aquaphor, also recommended by my doctor.

What about deep tissue scar. I'm at 6 month post op. I had a series of lymphatic massages by a pro early on. I have been using a massage roller that vibrates for months now. It looks better, but I still have a slight dent to my inner knee. Can thus still improve over time. These are the things my surgeon asked me to do. I have my 6 month post op coming up in a few weeks. Worried, I'm stuck with this. It's not horrible, but it doesn't look right either.

I have a large 10 cm vertical scar turned into a thick raised reddish brown keloid on my abdomen from my previous myomectomy surgery. Now I’m prepping for a C section for first pregnancy. Would you advise a scar revision in this case or based on my skin’s scar forming tendency, you recommend any other treatment?

Apart from a genetic predisposition, one of the main causes of keloids is tension within the skin, massage can help reduce the tension when perform ed by a skilled practitioner, but has to be continued on keloids as otherwise they will just revert. Be very careful getting revision surgery as there are not many surgeon sufficiently skilled when working on keloids. One very successful technique is to create zigzag incisions along the length of the scar and then in effect move one side along by one zig to remove the tension.

I had a reduction September of last year. My incisions opened and my scars are over an inch wide. It took months for the wounds to turn into skin. And my body didn’t break down the stitches for almost an entire year. Every time I tried to use the sheets for the first six months after, a stitch would surface and poke a hole into my scars. At 10 months post op, I finally felt safe using the scar sheets. Even this late to the game, I can tell it’s working. I’ve been wearing silicone sheets 24/7 for almost three months, and it’s helped so much.

I think the silicone is best left alone, since it is supposed to dry in a thin layer. Aloe will just make it sticky and keep it from working the way it is intended.

Very insightful video, dear doctor. I got a minor cut on my forehead 4 months ago. Now I have a pink scar which I think shall fade. But when I closely look at it in light, I see a little dent. I am wondering will the dent go away overtime or the scar will get flattened or not? Regards.

@@jenniferjlin on 15th of September, 6 months would be completed since my injury. I notice the scar improving in terms of its color. It used to be dark red, now it's pink. After much closer analysis in the mirror almost most of the time during all these days, I guess the dent is still there but it's very slowly improving. Below the dent, I feel like the skin is a bit raised. People can't notice it but I see it very closesly in the mirror, holding my hair backwards away from my forehead. I feel overtime, if this part of the skin flattens, that might improve the appearance of the dent as well, as the inner tissue might spread over that way. However, this is just my personal hope. I have been researching quite alot over scar healing on the internet through all this time, as I was quite depressed. I'm a 27 years old man and it hurts emotionally that you get a permanent scar on a spot which was quite clear since birth. Anyways, what I concluded from most of the articles on the internet and quite many videos like these on KZread is that, the final appearance of a scar would be after 2 years. In some articles I found the time period mentioned to be as 3 years. Moreover, some experts report that the remodeling of a scar might continue for several years. Anyways, the most reported duration is 2 to 3 years roughly. I have been applying silicone gel. Kindly do let me know if you discover some helpful remedy or treatment for youself. I shall also try to get benifited from that. Thank you. Highest regards.
