Correction: Protons and Neutrons are not fundamental; they're composed of actual fundamental particles known as Quarks and they combine with gluons to "bond" with another Quark. The combination of Quarks observed in Protons are an Up-Up-Down configuration while it's an Up-Down-Down configuration for Neutrons. Other types of quarks exist of course, like the Bottom Quark (not to be confused with Down Quarks because scientists can be bad at labeling) and there are exotic combinations like the Ξcc++ baryon with a configuration of an Up-Charm-Charm which still sounds crazy for a science nerd like me (seriously, wth are those people at the LHC doing?).
