It would have global implications: *UK, Canada, Australia, NZ would oppose the secession and support the Union. *France, Germany and most EU Nations would support the Union. *Ireland, Hungary would support the CSA. *Mexican states bordering Texas would support the CSA. *China would remain neutral however they would exploit the situation by invading Taiwan. *Russia would remain neutral due to their ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The US would no longer be able to properly intervene in global affairs since the CSA would always support the opposing side. The reality is, this type of conflict is already being played out in Ukraine between 2014 to 2022 and it is total disaster for that country.

There were two 'superhighways' of the 19th century U.S. An independent Confederacy would cut off the north-south Mississippi River (preventing inland access to the Gulf of Mexico) and if Missouri had joined the CSA, cut off the east-west transcontinental railroad (under construction during the war). If the CSA had succeeded in remaining independent and successfully fractured these highways, California would likely be its own country, encompassing the territories of Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Utah, and Arizona. The Union would have a long border to guard and would be more European oriented in terms of cultural influence and foreign relations. Midwest and Mountain states could have been divided amongst these three powers, or become independent, landlocked countries.

If there was a break-up, Texas would go it alone. It was an independent country for 11 years after breaking away from Mexico, and a lot of Texans wish it had remained so. The new capitol of the Confederacy would be Atlanta. No one, not even most Floridians, would want the capitol in Tallahassee, capitol of the weirdest state in the nation.

I think if this happened today you also see a number of mountain west states along with rural areas of Washington and Oregon join the secession. In addition the war aspect is vastly over simplified. The secessionist government would be wise to use insurgents along side conventional forces as part of their strategy. Industrially the secession states would be in a much better position than in 1861 because of the influx of manufacturing jobs as the northeast raised taxes on corporations along with increased regulation.

You can go ahead and put the majority of the Midwest guys in with the southern states on this one. If they were to break off it would most likely to avoid the socialists that are trying to run the country. Now, the majority of the military is also conservatives and to think they would fire on their people is just off. Now some of those “hicks with no teeth” are also former military. So they teach their kids how to hunt fish and track and live off the land. Not to mention they’re fighting on their on land. And the countless militias that are spread across the south that are also former military. Even if the military wasn’t on the side of the south. You should’ve gone over the revolutionary war in history class. And at the time Americans were just a bunch of drunk trigger happy farmers so just think about it chief.

@@dustinchristensen3894 If you think the war will be the same as it was in the 1800's, you are mistaken. The technology and military strength of the north is far to great for any other country to rival. Let alone the south which has very little industrial power and economic activity. And conservatism is nowhere near the government styles of the Confederacy. If you have ever read any literature on governmental systems in the confederacy, you will realize that the reason they lost the war was to poor government enforcement in states, very little taxation, and a stand still economy. The sad truth for you libertarians is, government will and will always have to have a role in your lives. Have too small of a government, and you'll end up like those "toothless southerners" we love to make fun of. :)

  • @RevCesKitchen305

They were going strictly by the numbers. The consolidated city of Jacksonville (five cities in one = 874+ sq miles) almost engulfs the entirety of Duval Co. with a population of nearly 800K in the city alone last time I checked. The city of Miami proper has only 36 livable square miles with a population of over 400K. Jax = 915 people per sq mile while MIA = 11K+ people per sq. mile. Miami-Dade Co. however has a pop. over 2.7M. Compare that to Kings Co. NY (Brooklyn) which is 2.5M. I agree with you 100% if you were making the argument I believe you are trying to make because if the city of Miami were to incorporate all the unincorporated real estate in it's surroundings that use it's zip code it would grow to over 1.5M people overnight and the metro-area is estimated now to be the sixth biggest in the U.S. Dallas then Houston are still slightly bigger. South Florida's advantage is having three port cities Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach. This makes SoFlo a very important and strategic area.

If there was a modern Confederacy, I think it would be Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Florida, and parts of southern Virginia that would be left of the original ones. I think Georgia would be a hard split, especially around Atlanta, but it would side with the Confederacy out of fear of being surrounded. Adding to the list, you could probably add Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri, Iowa, Kentucky, West Virginia, Ohio, Illinois, North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Utah, Arizona, Nevada, Alaska and then possibly New Mexico and Colorado primarily because of being surrounded. So the Confederacy would hold 30 1/2 states and the union would have 18 1/2. And basically it would be conservative vs liberal at this point. The Union (liberal) would have 3 main pockets centered around California, New York, and Illinois with Hawaii also being in the mix. So it would honestly be a geographical mess for the Union just cause of how its played out!

Depends on how you piece it, the north would likely have the support of Europe, and alliances are not something to be underestimated. Another thing is a civilian military wouldnt work because you'd be giving top-of-the-line military equipment, to people who have no idea how to use it.

If the Confederacy reunited today they would win most definitely. The South is full of loyal Southerners who would join the Confederacy no doubt. There would also be 4 other states who would join such as: Missouri, Oklahoma, Kentucky and West Virginia, thus giving the South way more troops to be deployed into battle.

The thing is if the csa were to return today i assume some other states would be more willing to join it than stay as a part of the United States, states like Oklahoma, Kentucky and West Virginia, due to a cultural similarity closer to the CSA states than the USA states. Also, a lot of people don't like the US so if this were to happen, lots of other countries (Most notably China and Russia) would support the CSA just to significantly weaken the United States, which fixes the most crucial issue that the Confederacy of the 19th century had, which was the lack of allies. If CSA were to return today, i can't say with certainty who'd win that war, but it would be bloody and weaken both countries immensely

If the Confederacy were to win by the skin of their teeth, Mexico could probably swoop in and take back some of the states it lost. A prepped Confederacy might be able to take on Mexico but a weakened Confederacy that just barely endured a war with the Union and hasn't had time to recover would be ripe for the picking.

I don't think it would end up being a world war. Russia and China would happily but quietly contribute resources but they would not want to put boots on the ground. No one would want to openly get involved as an ally of the CSA, at least initially. Also, I think it would be more likely that China supports the USA. They would have a vested interest in a fast war that didn't overly disrupt their US investments and that left the west coast untouched. However, I feel like the question asked by the video is inaccurate. If a modern civil war were to occur, much of the midwest would go with the new CSA. It's very possible that only the northeast from Maryland up and the west coast out to Colorado end up being part of the USA at first. There would also be a great deal of internal resistance - Austin and Atlanta would not go quietly into a CSA and rural Maryland would absolutely want to go with the CSA while the beltway would resist.

I agree, unlike in 1861 when the civil war was just a domestic issue it would be a world issue today and much like the Korean and Vietnam war, other countries may not officially join but would most certainly send supplies and volunteers to which every country fit their interest. Also due to the matter of nuclear weapons, this would be a major issue to the rest of the world, as either the union or confederacy get to use them against each other.

I think if there was another civil war the United States would use Napoleon's strategy and attack the Mississippi river so that it splits the confederacy in 2 then fight one side at a time while the other side is being held off by other troops from the United States.
