I feel like it would have made sense for the capitol to kill Katniss instead of torturing her. And then they would probably say that she died in the arena after it was destroyed. That way there would be no “mockingjay” leaving the rebels without their most powerful beacon of hope, eliminating a lot of of the hope from people all around Panem... but idk

I think they would probably do exactly what they did with Peeta, convince her that the only way to protect Peeta and her family is to film propaganda for the Capitol to deescalate the districts and stop the rebellion. They likely would have found the idea of using Katniss who had already become a symbol for the rebellion to spread their message against it too tempting to resist, and she probably would have gone along with it to protect Peeta because that’s what they do, protect each other. Up until she learned about the plans to bomb 13, at which point she’d probably sound the alarm just like Peeta did and because Peeta is now a rallying point for the rebellion they probably would have hijacked her and sent her to him (if 13 didn’t come rescue her) so she’d take him out for them.

It could work, but that would've made her a martyr, since many of the districts already saw her as a beacon. It's even implied in Mockingjay that Katniss is someone who might be a more powerful symbol dead rather than alive. One of the narratives that the Capitol put out in the original series is that Katniss is a confused girl who is being manipulated by the rebels. It's possible that either they would treat her the same way they did Peeta, or keep her confined in decent conditions "for her own safety", under the pretext that the rebels are misleading her and only the Capitol can "protect" her.

They got to be careful though if they kill her they'll just create a martyr it makes much more sense for them to keep her alive hijacker and then make it seem like she's on the capital side completely destroying her image. And I think the capital would turn Katniss into the jabberjay. And Peeta would probably be the Mockingbird maybe I don't know. That's besides the point but anyway they couldn't kill her because that would just fire up the districts even more.

If this was how the Hunger Games ended, i would have been much less heartbroken

If the plot unfolded that way, then there would be room for a fourth book that would tell how they took Coin out of power. Obviously Suzanne Collins would have to leave some loose ends throughout the third book (maybe entitled "Jabberjay"?) for the series to end up round. The fourth and final book could then be entitled "Mockingjay" and Katniss would have a better participation in this one. I think it really could have worked out.

There's one point worth noting in your reversed scenario - if the capitol took Katniss, they could have likely realized that she was not pregnant which the capitol could use to reduce both Katniss and Peeta's credibility. But otherwise, your theory is superb!

Yeah they’d lose a ton of support, to the comment above that was the cover story for her to re-enter combat in District 8 after months of being the Mockingjay

I don't think Katniss would have recovered as well as Peeta did. She was less emotionally stable than him going in to the 75th games. She was living in a state of fear- including fear of loving Peeta because she feared that she would lose him. She was self loathing and emotionally traumatized. She didn't have a stable emotional bedrock to return to. Her relationship with her mother was tainted with mistrust, her relationship with Gale was tainted with confusion and her relationship with Prim was deep but uneven- she saw herself as Prim's protector, but she didn't accept help and support in return. She was perfect for the Capitol to hijack. I think Peeta was able to recover the way he did because he was so certain about his feelings and his sense of self before the hijacking. Even before the 74th Hunger Games he said he didn't want them to make him into something he wasn't- Katniss didn't understand what he meant because her driving force was not her sense of self, it was her responsibility to take care of her family. Peeta knew who and what he was and he was prepared to fight to be himself. When the trackerjacker venom started fading in his system he was able to question what was true. He was also more methodical and less reactive than Katniss. If Katniss had been captured, Peeta's family still would have died leaving Katniss as the only person for him to focus on- her condition might have spurred him on to want to kill Snow, but regardless, I don't think Katniss and Peeta would have ended up together with kids at the end. She would have been too broken to allow herself to love him and become that vulnerable. He would have done his best to save her but it would have ended with her being another unhinged victor, and him unable to move on without her.

It was debilitating depression, but Katniss was 11 and watched her mother doing nothing to help her or Prim as they starved. That's why she told her mum not to 'leave' again before her first games- and why she needed to ask Gael to look after Prim- she didn't know if her mum would become depressed again. Maybe trust is the wrong word, but she couldn't just rely on her mum's support because she knew her mum might not be able.

When Katniss couldn’t get the line right in Mockingjay: Part 1, I reckon Jennifer Lawrence would have done something like that in real life once. I think Mockingjay was good for Katniss because of her Mockingjay pin and Mockingbird dress and I think Jabberjay suits Peeta well as he echoes the rebels words well. Haymitch did help Katniss help Peeta. I agree with you, Katniss would be part of the star squad as she’d heal quickly and because people still love Katniss she’d still be heavily featured. I honestly think Gale is important as well because he managed to survive after all the awful things that happened to the districts like the reapings and bombing. I’m glad the Capitol KIDS Games didn’t happen. I’m glad in your version Prim didn’t die; I liked that. I think Katniss or Prim may have been killed as they are like Peeta’s family and Peeta could be a threat to Coin. Full disclosure I think Coin is mainly to blame for Prim’s death.

Prim's death could also be (fully) placed on Gale as he suggested the idea of the 2 staged bombings. As mentioned in the book as he used to hunt animals, Beetee liked the idea of bombing the medics after so that is what happened..

I had a couple of questions that I think would be interesting as videos: How were the districts made? And How/who were the people chosen for each district?

Abbie, The districts people are chosen by where they were born. If they were born in the Capitol, then they will live there unless becoming a peacekeeper. If you were born in the area of let’s say, District nine, then when the districts come, you will be a part of district nine.

I always thought that Peeta would've surrendered himself immediately in return for Katniss's release and it would end up the same as the cannon story

Could the Capitol possibly made frightening images of Prim in Katniss' brain knowing how much Prim means to Katniss ( I mean she volunteered in the games for her ) and knowing how much it would eventually kill Katniss if she ever hurt her little sister?

I feel even if Katniss was Hijaked she would heal but the relationship between Her a Peeta would be different, as she would forgot she truly loves him and would end up Single because it’s the same for Gale

theory idea: what did glimmer specialize in at the academy? she is from district one, so it’s likely she went to the special school and trained with weapons. we see cato studied with the sword, clove’s weapon of choice was knife throwing, and marvel was handy with a spear. so that leaves glimmer. we see that she isn’t good with a bow when she tries to shoot katniss out of a tree, so obviously she was not trained in archery. and to my knowledge, we don’t see her with any other weapons. so, what did she do in the academy? or did she not attend at all?

I think she was skilled in archery but not nearly enough to shoot a moving target like Katniss. She was one of the careers and since they killed nearly everyone who attended the cornucopia, they could choose whichever weapon they wanted. Glimmer could easily grab a sword like clove or maybe a mace, but no, she chose a bow. Clearly it was her preferred weapon of choice. She was killed quickly so we never got to see her skills all that much but I assume she's just not advanced in it.

Maybe Glimmer took some kind of “Multidisciplinary Course”, learning the bare basics of every weapon available to her growing up. She probably chose the bow to stand out and wished to keep distance between her and her opponents. However, she’s probably the bottom of her class at the Academy.

Hamish would never have warned them to stay away from the cornucopia, peeta wouldn't have shaken his head, katniss would have gone for the bow and almost for sure died since a bow isn't gonna beat a sword at close range, especially since the careers were targeting her due to her high score. With katniss dead, peeta wouldn't have joined the careers, wouldn't have gotten injured, would have still probs run from the cornucopia since hes not big on fighting, then camo until ether found or starved. With no blow up supplys plan, careers have food and outlast him, since he cant hunt and thinks nightlock is safe to eat. now you know, Cato would probably have won

After watching this video, I'm convinced that the rebels made the wrong choice saving Katniss. 😂

It would have made the whole thing different.

I think that the revolution might not have worked because we know that peeta adores katniss and that he is very protective over her. if the capitol had katniss, peeta would be a lot more frantic to save her then katniss was to save him. i think that he would try and rush the operation. another reason is that katniss would probably not warned peeta about the bombing or, she probably wouldn’t even be allowed to know about it since the capitol knows the katniss is very vocal.

Yes but if katniss was in the Capitol peeta would know that the only way to rescue her would be for the rebels to reach the Capitol. I think he would have taken on katniss' s role and then tried to convince the rebels to rescue her and the others sooner

Like, did you see Johanna? she could've been there if it wasn't for the torture she went through in the capitol. I don't think they would be any kinder with Katniss for her to be able to join the squad even with the rehabilitation:(

Johanna failed the Block test. If Katniss were to pass, she would be allowed in. Also, Katniss would be more vital on camera than Johanna was

The people in Thirteen seemed to know a lot of information about highjacking. If you guys remember that night when everyone called Pita a traitor, it makes it seem like they have been waiting for him to be torchered all along so they could throw him away at the right time. Catniss being concerned for him was probabley the reason why they told the truth about him being highjacked, as she probably would have caused some kind of uprising in Thirteen if they had just disposed of him. Otherwise, I believe they probably would have told everyone that he was just a complete psycho.

I think Peeta would be hesitant to be the face of the rebellion due to how he called for peace but would do it because of Katniss. If Katniss would have a harder time due to her having trust issues and PTSD

Something I noticed is that if they *BOTH* got out alive then Snow is screwed, As Peeta can move people with words better than Katniss, something the rebels can use. 'The Jabberjay.' While Katniss could be the fighter shown in propo's with what Peeta is saying in the background. Showing that both the Mockingjay and the Jabberjay are fighting against the capital, Peeta with words, Katniss actually fighting and being shown in the propo's. This to me will cause a much bigger ripple effect than just Peeta or Katniss, Just a thought I had. :/ Idk if this is true really.

Honestly it’s unrealistic no kids would be born. The districts don’t have contraceptives so a large majority of the children born in the districts were accidental pregnancies.

I feel like there must be some sort of incentive for the desperate, like a year of rations once pregnancy is confirmed. After all, the Capitol needs the manpower and views the district's people as something akin to disposable but necessary cattle. This may also explain why poorer districts on average have children reaped that have had less chances to learn skills needed to survive in the games

"Just don't have sex" is not a good idea.The Capitol would certainly send in troops to rape the women and force them to breed because they wouldn't have access to abortion or anything. Snow wouldn't just be like "Oh well, the districts are using their free will to not have kids. Guess the Games are cancelled!"

I like the idea of Peeta in this role. It makes a lot of sense for the reasons you point out and could have given him much more of an INTERESTING role in the last book/two films. The use of Jabberjay really suits him.

In my opinion, had she survived, Coin would have likely reinstated The Hunger Games over again only with the capital's children each year. I would like to see Pita start a new revolution as he seemed to be the best at the cameras.

I feel like they would’ve tortured Katniss and brainwashed her to attack her family and Gale as well and show footage of them doing mockingjay salute and Gale attacking Commander Thread during the hijacking process to make her believe they joined the rebels.

Very interesting but I disagree with u (respectfully!) on a couple of points. Katniss had a much more difficult and complex personality and I think it would have been much harder for her to overcome the hijacking than it was for Peeta. And I think Coin would’ve still had issues with katniss because she was the mockingjay before they made it official. Also Coin wanted to quickly end the war - she still would have dropped the parachutes and I think coin would’ve still put Prim there. So to me Katniss would’ve wound up in the same place. I think she would’ve killed Coin just for suggesting the hunger games. You have Great thoughts and cool ideas!

They should have rescued both of them first.

Peeta would have been insufferable until they got Katniss. He would take over D13 with his charm and silver tongue! Would be Coin’s biggest nightmare.

This is unrelated but I actually expected catching fire to be something like all the tributes rebelled against the hunger games because during the interviews haymitch says something like “these victors are angry” but I feel like it would be cool if they did rebelled against the games like somehow breaking the force field in a safer way or having a plan so then district 13 can quickly rescue all the tributes

I think Katniss would still kill Coin, but she'd do so to save Peeta. He's a leader, a cry to rally. He can move masses and rally them to him, and Coin knows this. And he wouldn't sit back and let her do as she pleases if she started to abuse power. She'd do her best to be rid of him the same way she tried to be rid of Katniss for this same reason. And given that Katniss would grow to love Peeta, there is no way she would risk him bein harmed if she found out. And Snow would tell her, as she would likely seek resolution and still talk to him. Maybe she'd ask to be part of the firing squad, or have the star team be the firing squad, and just fire elsewhere.

It fits!!! Peeta and Katniss are connected just as Jabberjays and Mockingjays are connected!!!

Also on the note of the Symbolic Hunger Games, I actually think Coin would've rejected their votes and ordered the execution of the victors who are "traitors to the revolution". She seemed to be very proud with the idea of the hunger games, and if they didn't take place she would have suggested their deaths as a way to fill the thirst for blood after the war. It wouldn't have been so easy and there's a lot of manipulation involved if you ask me.
