Sorta annoying how everything just returns to "normal" at the end of the series, I really enjoyed the "good guy joker" and the effect of the pills "wearing off" felt like a copout to the fact that the good guy Joker would've eventually solved all of Gotham's issues if he wasn't in his Joker state.

Yall forget that this is still the same, manipulative joker that rivals Batman in both hand to hand and in intelect, even if not at the same level; just sane. Of course Joker would be able to make people believe him, despite what he's done. After all, Harley's backstory most of the time is that the Joker just made Harley fall for him with nothing but words, especially in this continuity that takes from the BaS. It stretched a bit, but considering what continuity we're talking about, it's not that unbelievable.

There was one comic I saw (I never read it personally, I just saw it covered on a vid something like this) where Bruce travels into the past, some weird shit happens, and he ends up gunning down two people in an alley. This story is just strange honestly. Like I'm willing to suspend disbelief to a pretty far extent but there's just too many things I can't buy in this. Like the dude has a massive body count, yet suddenly is accepted as a normal guy because he took "normal pills". Accepted enough to be elected a politician? (ok well maybe) but this isn't happening in some other city in America, it's happening in THE city he terrorized and tortured people in dressed as an insane clown. Even if we're supposed to look at it through a symbolic lens, it's still just too absurd. Like maybe with a different villain like Two Face or Penguin it would work. But the Joker? Can't buy it.

Trump got elected and could well get elected again, despite plenty of evidence to demonstrate his monstrous behaviour (i.e. "grab em' by the..." clip). That guy didn't even take "normal pills" and wipe his make-up off. Women voted for him, black people, Latinx folk... You never know the kind of person people are willing to trust when they're desperate, no matter the severity of their crimes, for better - as in this fictional case - or for worse - as in Trump's. Also I think the clip of Batman forcing said "normal pills" down Joker's throat is supposed to do a lot of the legwork vis-a-vis Gothamites re-evaluating their understanding of good and bad in the city, and who perpetuates it vs. who perpetrates it. The one thing the working class (should) hate is a fascist. Batman filmed beating down on an unarmed man who's already restrained whilst the cops watch on - it's a video of essentially police brutality. Joker was many things: a murderer, lunatic, paradoxically idealistic and nihilistic at the same time, a criminal, an abuser, a terrorist, but he wasn't exactly a fascist. I don't think Batman is a fascist in the normal continuity of the comics, but he looks like one here, at the start.

A lot of people are talking about how they didn’t like that the story was skewed in Joker’s favour, making Bruce look like the villain. But I think it’s shown in the story that this version of Batman isn’t as noble as others because Jason simply left him instead of being killed, whereas normally he would be killed believing in the cause and not forgive Batman for essentially letting the Joker get away with it. Him running away shows that Batman could’ve possibly been unhinged before the events of this story

Batman just had to deal with the loss of a loved one, an entire fight with his whole rogues gallery, and an injury from having entire buildings fall on him. Meanwhile, we have Jack Napier, in peak condition, and had memories of Joker confronting Batman on multiple occasions. He knows Batman's moves and since they're slower (due to Batman's previous encounters) he is able to counter much more effectively. This was a battle of alignment. Everything that has happened led up to this moment. Joker won that fight, and Batman lost.

Ultimately, there always has been a limit of what Batman could do for Gotham. Political reformation was the logical next step. However, Batman was absolutely necessary in the beginning as anyone who would have been willing to step-up to take on the corruption, would have been destroyed by the numerous corrupt elements in Gotham. It would be Batman's protection against these elements which would allow the political reformists to ultimately last long enough to have some effect.

Tbh, this alternate universe story by Sean Murphy is imo really interesting and might actually be one of my favorites. I love seeing references to other batman titles, look at the batmobiles or joker's cell (that panel is so cool). I also really love the art. I still follow the series to this day, just a few days ago another comic is added to this Murphyverse, "Batman: White Knight Presents - Generation Joker". It might not be perfect but imo this series is one of the most interesting and fun alternate universe story from the black label. Tbh, knowing that this is an Au, it made me feel more invested on the characters' well-being cause the writer can kill a character and make actual impact, like ngl I did become sad when one of the characters died. Seeing the characters age is also like a bonus cause finally they're not stuck on a certain age.

What if Gotham became something like Metropolis? That bright, shiny city that good people are attracted to.

So Joker goes from full villain to corrupt politician? I think you need to change your title bud, cause he ain’t even close to being a “good guy” unless you think brainwashing (taking away their free will) villains to make them cause problems for you to look better is a good thing, which is a helluva hot take. Sorry, but this just comes off as shitty fan fiction to me, since we just conveniently ignore other issues. Actually, now that I think about it, if they would’ve shown the court of owls supporting joker, it could’ve made it work, since they’ve been thwarting Batman’s attempts to make the city better from the inside besides the main villains. I could see them do it out of spite, just because they hate batman and there’s more benefits than cons.

How come you are using AI to voice this man?

He isn't - it's very subtle, but he has an accent that would suggest that English is not his first language. Probably sounds like an AI because his English is so good and his accent is so accurate that those barely perceivable irregularities in intonation and pronunciation sort of put him in the uncanny valley, in a weird way. It's impressive.

P.S. I can't place his accent. I think it's likely Nordic although, to my untrained ear, it could be Slavic. I thought Swedish at first, but I'm not so sure.

I don't think most people in the comments get that this is an Elseworlds story. And I get that Joker has an army of incels who worship him because they want to lash out at society too, the term "White Knight" really bugs them, it implies that Joker is a simp, to be honest I like Joker/Jack taking that name for that very reason.

The whole conceit of this story sucks and feels like something the surface level "Well why doesn't Batman fund social programs instead????" types would come up with. (Because he already does. Bruce Wayne does what the Joker did in this comic as a baseline.)
