Join me and the Goddess of Death while we breakdown ‘What if…?’ Season 2 Episode 7 ‘What if…Hela found the Ten Rings?’ with Cate Blanchett returning to voice Hela and featuring some of our favourite Asgardian characters, Odin the Allfather, Heimdell and Fenris, Hela’s wolf as well as some of our favourite Shang-Chi characters, Xu Wenwu and meeting a new character from Ta Lo, Jiayi.
This episode is one of my favourites and they tell a fascinating story of an Asgard cross over with Shang-Chi and the world of Ta Lo. This could also be called ‘What if…Hela was banished like Thor?’ or ‘What if…Hela was given the ‘Thor’ treatment?’ as we see the exact same scene of the allfather banishing his child to Midguard but because of the 1,500 years in the difference, it results in very different consequences where Hela arrives in ancient China and goes on a spiritual journey of unearthing the true cause of her ways and why she wants revenge on her father. This is also a great story of a daughter overcoming her father’s control and realising that her whole existence is defined according to her father’s wants. Instead, not only does she give peace a chance but she appears to save another daughter from her [adopter], Gamora.
We are graced by the voice of Cate Blanchett as ‘Hela’, Idris Elba returns to voice ‘Heimdell’, Jeff Bergman voices ‘Odin’, Feodor Chin voices ‘Xu Wenwu’, Lauren Tom voices ‘Jiayi’ and Liv Zamora voices ‘Young Hela’.
I certainly hope we see a live-action rendition of Hela, the Goddess of Light or Mercy in Thor 5 or Avengers: Secret Wars. I am also really excited and hopeful for some really cool Funko POPs from this episode, particularly Hela in her 3 outfits, the red dress, the teal robe and her silver & white armour which could be a POP Ride with Hela on Fenris and Maurice flying beside her as well as a possible Young Hela with Puppy Fenris, which would be very cute. This is also our opportunity to get another Odin Funko POP because there is only one in existence to my knowledge! By the way, where are the ‘What if…?’ Season 2 Funko POPs? Come on Funko, I have a long list of characters from Season 2 that I NEED as Funko POPs!!
