‘The Marvels’ ends with an unprecedented and world shattering mid-credits scene. We see ‘Photon’ aka Captain Monica Rambeau waking up and who is sitting beside her? A variant of her mother, Maria Rambeau, played by Lashana Lynch, who appears to be the hero ‘Binary’ from the comics! We are then joined by one of the smartest mutants who is also making their MCU live-action debut, ‘Beast’, played by Kelsey Grammer! This ‘Beast’ does not look like the Fox X-Men ‘Beast’ and in my opinion, he looks way better, much more comic accurate, realistic and slick! He even has the protruding canines in his mandible while wearing his typical comic look of shirtless, X-Men uniform trousers and a lab coat! This means A LOT of things for the future of the MCU and no doubt connects with Deadpool 3 which is under 6 months away and will bring plenty of mutants and X-Men into the Marvel Cinematic Universe but it also likely connects to Avengers 5 and/or Avengers Secret Wars which based on this film, Photon will be a KEY player, as she is able to close incursions!
While she spends time in this universe, Monica will likely get to know this variant of her mother, ‘Binary’. This is the third Maria Rambeau variant we have met and 2 of the 3 are the equivalent ‘Captain Marvel’s’ of their universes. I think Marvel wants us to think that Maria is the ‘Captain Marvel’ of most universes while Carol Danvers is the minority in that. Although we did meet one other Carol Danvers variant in ‘What if…?’ Season 1 Episode 7, “What if…Thor was an only child?” and that is the only other Carol Danvers we’ve met who is also ‘Captain Marvel’. ‘Binary’ is also guarding the ‘Quantum bands’ of this universe while now, Carol and Kamala aka ‘Ms Marvel’ are sharing custody of the bands, one each. We also hear ‘Beast’ refer to “Charles” aka ‘Professor X’ or ‘Charles Xavier’ in this universe, meaning it must NOT be the 838 universe that we visited in ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ and none of the Fox X-Men films where Charles has passed away. Some speculate that this could be the live-action version of the ‘X-Men Animated Series’ which the MCU is rebooting as ‘X-Men ‘97’, rumoured to release in March of this year.
