By the way, the Pichu damaging itself is actually referencing series material, being that it can't properly control its own electricity, so it damages itself. (From just about every Pichu Pokédex entry ever)

Man just flopped the pikachu section and pichu section considering only 4 moves can be used by a pokemon so the move selection would be dumb. Instead i would rather have level ups implemented into trainer and have it so that the pokemon become stronger as the match goes on and their moves become stronger versions such as thundershock becomes thunderbolt and eventually thunder

I've tried to theorycraft how one would make a good Ganondorf, and while the full list is a bit long for a comment, I'd put up B as a floaty recovery. Similar to Brawl Pit's, which is quick, but if it isn't ledge canceled it can't be canceled, and it has absolutely no defense on it, and you stay in that state for a long time. Side B should likely be the light ball from Deadman's Volley, with it being a slow to start projectile that hits whoever runs into it, unless it is knocked away (it's a hit box for both sides unless it just got hit basically) and gets the stun effect similar to in the games, thus giving Ganon a very, very scary projectile, but one with plenty of room to backfire. Neutral B could be an omnidirectional energy blast with similar, maybe slightly weaker strength to Warlock punch, but no superarmor in exchange, and for Down B I'd give him a projectile nullifying dark energy barrier which nullifies any weak projectile, and any melee move that hits you while also having the opponent's hurt box move into range, with the latter causing the opponent to take damage in the process. This would work like an average counter, but its blocking duration would be increased the more an opponent hits with a move that can't break through.

@@chrispo7610 I never said it's meant to be "good". It's supposed to be annoying for both sides. Its intent is purely to hog a bunch of space, and force both players to either limit options as people try to get past it, or to force players into the risk of being the one who flubs the counter and gets stunned. It being slow once it fires off first is good for this purpose because it wastes space longer. Also, it backfiring is deliberate in this design since in the games, Ganondorf always manages to cause Link to show up to stop him, so moves that reflect that, I.E. ones that give the opponent a particular opening in exchange for having a decent use are perfectly suited. That's also why I gave his float absolutely no defense, why the dark barrier can be bypassed by strong projectiles and disjointed hitboxes, and why I suggested making the energy burst not have super armor. I'm deliberately having the moves be strong if they work, but have a weakness that will be exploited if they don't.

One problem with Pikachu and Pichu: it hurting itself does actually make sense since it learns recoil moves and its dex entries usually talk about it hurting itself because it can't control its powers yet. Just a minor detail but I thought it should be stated

While the Dex loves to talk about that fact, it's not utilized in actual gameplay, which I believe is his point. I mean, you already want to evolve Pichu as fast as humanly possible because it's so weak, but can you imagine if it had a self harming ability on top of that?

Have it last until it's beaten out of him (as with dropping items). If the plan is full powerup representation though I'd split him into 2D Mario and 3D Mario, the series is just too diverse for it all to fit in one character. 3D Mario could have: - Turbo nozzle sprint (Sunshine) - Hover nozzle double-jump (Sunshine) - Cappy Grapple (Odyssey) - Spin neutral-aerial (Galaxy) - Drill down-aerial (Galaxy) - Invisible dodge (SM64) - Cappy spin neutral-B? (Odyssey) - Long-jump side-B, faster if backwards (SM64), alternatively Rock Mushroom roll or shell ride - Cloud Flower aerial up-B (Galaxy 2) - Spring Mushroom grounded up-B (Galaxy) - Fludd down-B (Sunshine)

Even though Pokemon can learn more than just 4 moves, it really doesn't make any sense for even Pokemon Trainer to be able to select moves given the fact that Pokemon can literally only *remember* 4 moves at a time, no matter the kind. While you can have Extreme Speed and Quick Attack on the same moveset, for example, you literally cannot try to use Quick Attack after REPLACING it with Extreme Speed. It's not like they're able to have multiple recovery moves, multiple projectiles, etc., at a time to switch between. There's literally no way to represent that kind of limitation with something that has so little limitation as a Dragon Quest-style move select. That many moves on a Pokemon would make far more sense with custom specials being brought back since they still have that same Pokemon-style limitation of only having 4 moves with only one of each kind of move at a time. Granted, of course, that's not mentioning the fact that some Pokemon have so great a memory that they really have no reason to be so limited as other Pokemon in the first place, but, eh, balance. As for at least some of the Fire Emblem reps, I could see them using some of the other weapons that they use throughout the series. For example, in Radiant Dawn, Ike gets the ability to use Axes. There's not much to go by with Roy, but he did appear in Awakening and Fates as a Mercenary, which promotes into a Hero or a Bow Knight, and in both cases, he's able to use Axes and, well, Bows rather than just swords, plus the Bow Knight's mount might also add an interesting variety, as well. I could see him charging forward on a horse while swinging his sword, somewhat like Bowser Jr. Chrom and Lucina also both can use Lances with their promotion into Great Lords. Corrin would be a little difficult, however. Marth would be fine just staying the same as he is the only Fire Emblem rep not to have literally any alternate weapons in the series outside of Fire Emblem Heroes. Corrin can use offensive magic as a Nohr Noble, and as a Hoshido Noble can use Staves, but there are few offensive Staves in Fates, though there are more in the series itself. Though they do have their dragon transformations already represented, so is there really any actual need for variety there unless we were to try to think of alternate specials? As for Bayonetta with her guns, like Joker, they're not real bullets. Her guns are imbued with magic. The only thing I could see for her alternate moves would be other weapons from her games, such as whips, rocket launcher tonfas, or swords. The only change I could personally see with Shulk is that if they again included custom specials, I could see him using more of his normal Arts from the game, such as Slit Edge or Stream Edge. I personally don't think Sonic's moveset is really that lazy. It takes a lot of inspiration from Sonic the Fighters, which is cool and very fitting. Yeah, he turns into a ball a lot, but, well, that and speed are his whole deal, aren't they? The only change I could see would be maybe taking at least one more move from Sonic Battle, the move where he tosses a ring and goes flying to catch it. Another ball move, but still, it's not as bad as literally having two different Spin Dashes. Super Sonic would be ridiculous as a normal gameplay function. After all, on top of being OP with speed and invincibility, what would his Final Smash be, then, if not the iconic Super Sonic? But the last thing to take into account is that this is largely about these new "unique" but convoluted mechanics. You need to ask yourself, "Do these characters really REQUIRE any of these mechanics on top of what they already have?" The more unique mechanics there are to worry about, the less beginner-friendly Smash is. Take Mario, for example. He's not just meant to be a "prototype" fighter. He's meant to be the most basic character, which is different. He's meant to be a character that someone who is new to the Smash franchise can easily recognize, pick up, and automatically understand the basics of Smash with BEFORE going deeper, as he always has been in all of his games. Shoving all of these different power-ups into his moveset would just make him more convoluted and go against what he was always designed to be.

Kinda weird you did so much research, but something that's really surface level info got missed.

I have to disagree on your apparent emphasis on adding moves from characters most recent appearances. While it makes some sense and isn’t entirely wrong, you’re completely leaving out fan popularity. And I don’t mean popularity as in sale numbers, I mean the games that are either popular among the fans or are iconic in it of itself. For example, King Dedede’s final smash actually finally good, Masked Dedede makes so much sense, not this one time form King Dedede turns into because he was possessed by a heart. Or how you think to remove mega evolutions from the Pokémon who use them just because mega evolution wasn’t in Sword and Shield, currently the most recent main-line Pokémon game, despite mega evolution being in remake of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX which came out after Sword and Shield. You sound very corporate when you pull from the most recent games not because of popularity, but just because they are the most recent and can be promoted. I understand that Smash Bros is essentially promotion: the game, but you shouldn’t only pull from recent games for the sake of recent material

Yeah, Masked Dedede by no means its an outdated reference, quite the opposite, ever since Superstar Ultra, Masked Dedede has shown up in many games, it’s become a staple that whenever Dedede gets serious, he wears a mask, weapons up, and goes berserk, just like Ultimate’s Final Smash Also Mega Lucario really fits Lucario more than just “current gimmick representation”, Mega Lucario very much truly introduces the Mega Evolution mechanic to you in XY, the game gives you a free Lucario with a Mega Stone, and you gotta beat another Mega Lucario at a Lucario temple in order to get the Mega Ring, Lucario is really more relevant in Kalos than he ever was in Sinnoh (not counting the movie or Gen 4 spin-offs), so he keeping his Mega makes perfect sense, and heck, Mega Lucario shooting a giant aura beam now heavily resembles his Pokkén burst attack, and Lucario was a poster boy in that game, Mega Lucario being featured along with Pikachu in the original boxart

That's such a good idea, you could net star punches by striking immediately after dodging a registered attack, or perfect parrying, making attempting to attack Little Mac a gamble that you might buff him up. For balancing reasons it probably doesn't hit as hard as the KO punch, but has the potential to be used much more frequently based on the matchup, and for the trade off of boosting Mac's recovery potential, it's well worth it.

Here is the thing. I do think these are good ideas. I really do. The problem is, your talking about the impossible and wanting to change things people already appreciate. Mario doesn’t have to have mega super double flippy tricks to still be Mario. He can be a very simplistic character and still bring the same charm. People like him as is. I’m 100% confident that everyone wants some type of Odyssey reference beyond a taunt and his up special sometimes, but beyond that, I’m sure that no changes are required besides that. You can’t fit everything into one character. And a lot of this stuff that I just said is true for a lot of these other characters. I’m sure more people want to have better representation of the character. That doesn’t mean that you have to completely rework the character to do that. Think about the small things, ya know?

Which isn’t inherently bad! But projectiles are generally unfun and for every single character to have one, especially in current ultimate, it sounds like the most unpleasant zone fest ever. Plus, projectiles as specials are pretty lame for something as important as a special move imo. Having metaknight’s sword slash projectile be a smash attack would be even better because it gives a move utility and can save the cooler, interesting mechanics for the specials Really liked your idea for Pichu btw.

Press B to open inventory and press A, B, X, Y, ZR, ZL, R, L, and the D-Pad to select the tools to replace all smash attacks/jabs. You could select the sword (an all-rounder weapon with medium speed and medium damage), axe (slow moves that either do heavy shield damage, or go through shields), and pickaxe (high speed, low damage weapon with good combos). She could also select potions, with one use per stock each, like a mix of shulk’s monado arts and banjo’s wonder wing. She could select a speed potion (Slightly faster movement speed), Strength potion (similar to Kazuya’s rage, you get a 10% damage increase), jump boost potion (Just like in Minecraft, you would have your jump height doubled), haste potion (It’s unofficial without commands but whatever. You would get a 30% speed increase to how fast your weapons swing, similar to how a gold tools swing faster in Steve’s moveset), Invisibility potion (Alex goes invisible and only particle effects and weapons can be seen), regeneration potion (gain -1% over a 25 second duration), weakness potion (throw a lingering weakness potion in front of you, lasting for 8 seconds, and whoever steps in it (including yourself) gets a -10% damage decrease), Healing potion (heals 30% instantly, but it is a splash potion with a large radius, so you could accidentally hit your opponent(s) and heal them too), and finally a potion of turtle master (which gives you a -50% speed decrease while also making you take -50% less knock back and damage). TL;DR: Replace Steve’s Neutral B with an inventory system that you can use to select items such as: Iron Axe Iron Sword Iron Pickaxe Strength Potion Speed Potion Jump Boost Potion Haste Potion Weakness Potion Regeneration Potion Instant Healing Potion Invisibility Potion Turtle Master Potion

2 words, *button imputs* . Have it so that when you double tap/hold and then release the special button, some characters can change a special move apart for their up b. It's only for one move (specific characters have this for different special moves) you have to repeat the same cycle again when you move or do another move. They can either be weak but fast or strong but takes a little while to come out (all depending on the type of character) Some examples can be: Side: Mario can throw Cappy for some minor damage, no capture ability. Sonic does his boost and when you hit an opponent a gauge slightly fills up for it. Ganon can do his light attack which does flinching damage, it can be easily redirected and gets slightly faster when it keeps getting hit back. Kirby can use the spear throw and it acts like it does in the games. Wario does his charge attack and keep on moving for as long as he wants but can't act out of it and if he hits a wall or lands while using it he gets slightly stunned. Neutral: Captain Falcon does a semi spamable laser attack like Fox or Falcon. Fox and Falco can launch a tiny bomb on the stage that can stun opponent's but goes of very quickly. Boswer can blast a single fire ball but it gets smaller when you keep using it like his fire breath. Toon Link can switch the arrows he uses while he's charging his bow. Yoshi can catch projectiles and lays an egg and when he uses his up b he stays on the ground and can throw the eggs faster as long as there are some there, otherwise the move stays the same. Down: Dk rolls a barrels one at a time and can keep doing so with every button press but the move and barrels are slow. Meta Knight does his quick downward stab letting him land back on stage, but doesn't spike and can cost you a stock if you use it off stage. Peach cries and when someone comes in contact with the water they slip and fall on the ground just like the earthquake happens in the spirit battles, it only happens when the opponent's are on the groung Daisy does the same but she summons a flower bed instead of crying. Samus has the same move but instead of jumping she just rolls while on the ground placing a bomb, she can't act out of it and she is briefly venerable when the move ends Dark Samus phases out instead of becoming a morph ball, avoiding attacks instead of placing a bomb. The move has the same weakness as Samus This allows little work to change the movesets and can represent more of a franchise. This can also easily be the main gimmick when the new Smash game comes out.

I think Inkling is fine rn in smash. Idk why they didn’t include the charger for that being in the global testfire along with the other standard weapons for their class at Splatoon 1’s Launch. But it would interfere with her fast paced playstyle while spacing herself to reference the fast pace of Splatoon especially the first one which is the focus along with having to space with weapons in Splatoon to not trade or get killed by a short range weapon. I don’t think the dualies are a necessity for having a ton of lag which isn’t gonna translate well into smash. Killer Wail I’d replace for the charger arguement but idk what special because we can’t have transformation specials apparently so kraken is out of the question along with alot of others. Tenta Missiles is another special that you need space in between your opponent and targets so you don’t get killed up close but as much as killer wail.

[Donkey Kong] Donkey Kong now has his regular voice, instead of the realistic gorilla grunts he did in previous Smash games. Side Taunt: Donkey Kong flexes his muscles and looks at the viewer with a proud grin, similarly to his artwork in Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. Side Special (Object Lob): Donkey Kong lobs an object forwards; the damage dealt varies from object to object; he can throw a key from Donkey Kong Jr., a banana from his hoard, a barrel from the original Donkey Kong, a pineapple from DK Circus, a pair of bongos from Donkey Konga, and a flaming barrel from the original Donkey Kong. The Barrel will keep rolling on the ground if it misses. The Flaming Barrel will keep rolling on the ground if it misses and burns enemies. The Bongos can bounce off the ground. The Banana causes opponents to slip. Down Throw (Headbutt): Donkey Kong headbutts the opponent, burrowing them in the ground. Down Aerial (Sack Sock): Based on the stolen sack of toys from Mario vs. Donkey Kong. Donkey Kong swings a sack full of toys below him. Side Smash (Sound Wave Attack): Based off of the sound wave attack from Donkey Kong 64. Donkey Kong claps his hands in front of him; sound waves are produced by this attack that can deal minor damage to opponents hit by them, but the real damage comes from DK's hands. Up Smash (DK Clap): Loosely based on the Donkey Kong Jungle Beat game. Donkey Kong claps his hands above him. If the player presses the attack button at the right time, he will clap a second time, this second clap dealing more knockback. Side Tilt (Boxing Backhand): Based on DK's swing from the Mario Baseball series. Donkey Kong swings his hand in a backhand attack, wearing a boxing glove on that hand. Neutral Aerial (DK Spin): Based on DK's defensive maneuver in dodgeball in Mario Sports Mix. DK spins around with his arms outstretched, can deflect projectiles if timed just right. Final Smash (Thunder Wham!): Donkey Kong yells "DONKEY KONG!", leaps into the air, and slams down on the ground with his hands, producing shockwaves strong enough to create an electric field around him that grows steadily. Once the field dissipates, any opponents caught in it will be launched away. Up Special (Spring Fling): Donkey Kong places a purple spring underneath him that bounces him high into the air. [Diddy Kong] Diddy Kong now has his regular voice, instead of the realistic monkey noises he used in previous Smash games. Up Tilt (Handstand Kick): Diddy Kong flips over and stands upside-down on his hands and then thrusts his legs upwards. Down Tilt (Kong Kick): Diddy Kong swings one foot along the ground in front of him. Back Aerial (Giant Banana): Based on the giant banana item from Mario Kart: Double Dash. Diddy Kong takes out a big banana peel and swings it twice as he spins through the air. Can make opponents on the ground slip when hit by it. Side Special (Chimpy Charge): Diddy Kong rams forwards with his shoulder. [King K. Rool] King K. Rool now has his regular voice, instead of the realistic crocodile bellows he did in Ultimate. Up Taunt: King K. Rool will pull out his Blunderbuss and pull the trigger, only for a mass of flopping fish and seaweed to come out. He will then look at the camera with a confused expression on his face, and then put his Blunderbuss away. Down Special (Cannonball): King K. Rool snaps his fingers, causing a cannonball to land in front of him. It buries grounded opponents and meteor smashes aerial opponents it lands on. The cannonball can then be picked up and thrown as an item by King K. Rool or his opponents; after being thrown, it travels in an arc, damaging opponents it hits. After two throws, the cannonball disappears. Only one cannonball can be at play. Down Smash: King K. Rool pulls out a remote and presses a button on it, causing the area around him to be covered in electricity, damaging opponents multiple times before launching them. Down Aerial: King K. Rool performs a stall-then-fall attack with his stomach, falling to the ground. He bounces off opponents if he lands on one. Side Tilt: King K. Rool swings his Blunderbuss in front of him. Forward Aerial: King K. Rool swings his Royal Scepter forward in midair.

10:12 Actually, Pichu hurting himself is reference material. In the dex entries in the games, many of them mention how Pichu has little control over it's electrical powers. In the anime, one episode mentions how it hurts itself when using electricity.

22:21 I disagree. Because every single reference in Corrin's Moveset is taken from two Cutscenes. That's everything. So I would apply changes based upon the actual games. First and foremost (albeit that no Moveset Change) Alts based upon the Nohrian/Hoshidan Noble Class they (can) gain depending on the Route you chose.

My mario if he was dlc: Grab:He throws out cappy if the grab button is hold cappy stays there for a few seconds of he land its he forces the opponent to walked right next mario would be. Forward throw:He let's go of the capture and does a weaker Forward smash to the opponent launching them Forward l. Back throw:He let's go of the capture but backwards and then kick the opponent then launching the opponent backwards. Up throw:He let's go of he's opponent with an ice flower and throw the opponent (now in ice)upwards thus causes the opponent to be launched upwards. Down throw:He let's go of his opponent with his cape power up and spins causing multi hitting damage this causes the opponent to be launched backward. Neutral special:same thing but if you hold it down it puts up a menu which does different things. Ice flower Neutral special:If this hits it causes you to be in ice mashing will cause it to break and you can hit the ice with moves (other than ice flower special) and it will cause it to break and slide if used in the air it becomes easier to break(Suggest more powers in the replies it has to be a flower power up tho) Up special:If just like meta knights up special but it doesn't have a hurt box but if you neutral special while in the move mario will spin (Giveing it a hurt box)but it will decend the more you use the spin move after you use the move you can use up special again and turn into the racon suit slowly descending. Side special:You will you cappy if hit it does small multi hit damage but if used on assist trophy and becomes it this can only do this to attackable assist trophy and pokemon but this will only last for 10 seconds at a time and most (if not all trophy can't recover) so be careful. Down special:I thought of this before this video came out mario eats a mushroom and does what the mushroom does in smash bros but there's a chance that the poison mushroom appears and you have to wait 15 seconds before you can you down special again and you have to wait intill the effects of the mushrooms where off so people don't you down special again before the poison mushroom weres off so 15 seconds + mushroom wherein off. Final smash:Mario turns into a dinosaur from mario odyssey and runs around the battlefield this final smash you can kinda control it if you in the air mario just fall it does have a hurt box tho and mario doesn't die.

Here are some ideas I personally have: I feel all of Kirby’s moves could be derived from each of his copy abilities, he needs no improvised moves. His throws can all be from the new wrestler ability from Kirby fighters 2 and he can have a new final smash based off his final attack in star allies. Inkling can have splatter shot as a jab/walking f tilt like mega man and the dualies can now be the neutral b, working like the current neutral b but you can doge roll. Also the final smash during team battles could change to the booyah bomb where your teammates have to taunt to power it up For Mario I would make cappy side b (obviously) and Galaxy spin the down b which can give you a boost in the air and flip players/reflect projectiles like the cape. Dair is the ground pound but pressing a again has you do the dive. Luigi’s side b now has you suck with the poltergust sorta like K rools neutral B, maybe the strolbob can be a smash attack and the burst from mansion 3 can be the down special. Final smash functionally stays the same but with that upgrade from mansion 3 that makes the poltergust temporarily powerful, maybe have gooigi join in

Some trivia on Ness's Smash moveset. In Paula's trophy description in Melee, it is said that after the events of Earthbound, Paula taught Ness PK Fire, Freeze, and Flash. Not sure if it's canon since this is material only referenced in Smash Bros, but it's interesting that they actually do have some form of explanation for Ness's moveset Also, was this video filmed prior to last week's direct, cuz we do now have a new Bayo 3 announcement lol

    - "I guess Samus has aged better than a lot of the other veterans." Hooo boy. Here, let me help you: 1. First, really glad you mentioned the Ice Beam. That's an absolute must-have that would immediately change up her playstyle. 2. I think it's weird that the Shinespark has never been referenced in Smash considering how iconic it is. I think it'd be cool of that acted as her Up Special when she's on the ground, with Screw Attack only happening in the air. They could maybe incorporate it into her dash attack, too? 3. She has a melee counter in both Samus Returns and Dread that is _begging_ to be put into her Smash kit. 4. Finding a way to implement her Plasma Beam would be cool, too. Like, maybe she gains it after accumulating a certain amount of damage or something? Hey, every other new Fighter seems to have a comeback gimmick. Or, hell, give her the ability to switch between Charge (strongest), Ice (freezes enemies), and Plasma (fastest) at will. 5. I always wanted her Final Smash to be summoning the Baby Metroid, which would float around her (kinda like a 360-degree Arsene) and provide major additional damage to anyone who gets near Samus. If we're sticking with the cinematic FS's, have her summon the giant Baby Metroid from the end of Super to suck the life out of any opponents caught in it. That could be a fun and practical way to actually get a Metroid as part of her moveset. Sorry, I just have always thought that Samus was the one _most_ in need of an overhaul haha. - Giving DK a barrel-throwing move is actually really damn inspired. Giving him a long-range projectile-like attack would completely change his playstyle. I'd love to see that implemented. - I was gonna point something out about Pichu, but...yeah, I think you got it by now haha - I was about to get _pissed_ that you were even thinking about the idea of replacing Giga Bowser...but damn if Fury Bowser doesn't make a hell of a lot more sense. - 16:01 Time stamping this cause _damn_ if you aren't spitting the truest facts in this entire video. Young was straight up robbed in Ultimate. - I'm a Game & Watch buff and it's actually insane how literally every single aspect of Mr. G&W in Ultimate is a reference to his games. Like, even his walking animation is ripped _right_ from Manhole. It's almost insane how perfect his design is. The _only_ thing I'd change is his Final Smash. Keep the iconic octopus, just make it, you know...not completely useless. - They could improve Ike by just replacing him with Lyn. I'm not budging on this. - K. Rool and the Belmonts are two of the best-designed characters in terms of in-game accuracy, but I think the _one_ move sorely missing from Ridley's kit is his - Yep, I knew you were saving Sonic for last. His moveset is the fandom's arch-nemesis, and as someone who used to play a lot of Sonic games...I _really_ never understood why it got the most amount of hate. I understand being a fan of the character and therefore wanting him to be more flashy in Smash, but...I mean, guys, Sonic is iconic for spinning in a ball, jumping on springs, and running fast. Which is what his moveset is. People always bring up shit like the Black Knight sword or the Werehog or some obscure attack from Chronicles, and it's like...you serious? The only things you have to pull from are some of his worst games? C'mon. All that being said, I'll admit that throwing some Whisps in there _would_ be best case scenario. They've been in enough Sonic games to be iconic these days, and utilizing them for certain big moments (recovery, kill moves, etc) while keeping his main spinning attacks would actually be a great way to represent him. Otherwise, the obvious solution is to just keep his current moveset and change his model to Classic Sonic. There, boom, problem solved. This was a really dope video man. You've earned yourself a sub.

For Link here’s my move set ideas. Up special: Ravali Gale, the longer you use it the higher it goes. Side special: Cryonis could create a barrier to block an attack or use as a platform. Neutral Special: Stasis could freeze the opponent allowing you to escape a sticky situation or extend combos. The stasis ability won’t last too long so you’ll need to act quickly. Down special: Bomb, works the exact same but there’s a chance that you get a square bomb that doesn’t roll as much. Shield: Link uses Daruk Protection as a shield animation and when you parry Daruk pops up like he does in BOTW. Final Smash: have Link signals Ravaili to let loose a wave of Bomb arrows, leading to an animation of the Champions using their unique abilities to help Link. It starts with Mipha surrounding the opponent in water doing slight damage, into Urbosa’s fury electrocuting them, and Daruk sends them flying with his Boulder Breaker.

I’m not a competitive player, but most of these changes are going to ruin the feel of the character. Characters like Sonic, Young Link, Toon Link, Daisy, Dark Pit, and maybe Chrom and Lucina should get moveset overhauls. However, most of the characters here have many references to their games, have a unique moveset, and are fun to play as. Changing a character like Pokémon trainer, which is already one of the best designed fighters in smash, just to have another reference that another jrpg already covered is just dumb.

Don’t get me started…I hope the next game revamps the OG characters. It’s like what RelaxAlax says “back in the day, they were just putting character in a fighting game, when now it’s more about how characters can be translated into smash” DLC fighters in ultimate (starting in 4) were starting to get these attention to details, so seeing all the older characters get the same DLc treatment would be so AMAZING and make everything feel Fresh. As a Kirby fan, my biggest gripe (besides Sakurai holding back his characters viability purposely) is the fact he doesn’t represent anything he hasn’t worked on (NOT Super Star). He has so many moveset possibilities, and not only would they make him represent his series and copy abilities more, but it would help his competitive viability. Like damn, I have a full list with pictures and damage and all the info, but obvs this is already getting long so I can’t say much else. Just saying, Kirby already forms weapons from abilities out of thin air, so if some aerials and smash attacks also used moves like Down Smash being Spark, Up smash being Hammer Flip, and Sidr Special being Beam Whip/Blast/Wave would already do so much for him and represent more abilities in the moveset. Honestly I could go on, so if you would want to hear more ig HMU on Twitter lmao

Smash 4 Robin -Robin's neutral, side, and up special now all have different stages depending on charge, similar to Hero. At no durability, Robin now uses the lowest stage, and doesn't recover use of the higher tiers of tomes until his next stock. -Robin's neutral special remains the same for the most part, but Thoron is removed. -Robin's side special goes Fire -> Elfire -> Arcfire. Fire is a weak but fast flame projectile. Elfire brings up a pillar of fire that consumes physical projectiles that pass through it. Arcfire works that same as before. -Robin's up special goes Wind -> Elwind -> Arcwind. Wind only uses a single blade that doesn't bring Robin up too much, but Robin can immediately act out of it. Elwind uses two blade, and tilting left or right when they shoot the second blade lets them angle their recovery. Arcwind summons one big blade that propels Robin up the highest, and has a meteor effect. -Robin now summons Chrom to deal a second hit for throws and as a counter down special similar to Peach's Toad. Chrom has his own durability, and at no durability, Robin has weak throws and no Down Special. Shulk -For his Chain Attack Final Smash, Shulk has a chance of teaming up with three different pairs of party members: Reyn & Sharla, Riki & Dunban, and Melia & Fiora. This lets Shulk fight with all of his party without breaking the game canon of there only being three members out on the field at a time. Corrin -Corrin turns into their full Feral Dragon form for smash attacks, like how Kazuya goes Devil for his. -Down Special is Dragon Vein, which does different things depending on Corrin's interaction with the stage. For example, Corrin summons a gust of wind around them when in the air, propelling them upward and pushing away nearby opponents.

I agree with all of these takes. I *do* think that under the conceit of 'if they were DLC today' that Samus and Zelda would get a little more gimmick in their movesets, but I can agree that they definitely hold up 'better' than most of the other older fighters on the list. Yoshi definitely feels like he needs a complete rework. Bowser and Peach to a lesser extent too. I really liked your Bowser ideas. Ike and Roy could use some more differentiation (or just get cut entirely?). But definitely the crown of 'needs a revamp now' goes to Ganondorf and Sonic, with Mario a distant third. It's nice seeing a video address the whole cast like this and really highlight the correct characters who need a rework instead of getting bogged down on their random favorites like Pit or whoever that are less direly in need of help. Only suggestion I can think of is that I think there's a lot of untapped potential in 'unique Shield mechanics' and other defensive tools. BotW Link's Goron power should just replace his normal shield-bubble at the very least. Incineroar's power-boosting counter is a great concept that should be utilized more frequently and with varying effects depending on the character. Just so much potential here.

Smash 64 Link -Mipha's spirit appears alongside Link on a revival platform, referencing Mipha's Grace. -When you tap special while shielding, Daruk's spirit pops up for Daruk's Protection, which is basically a free perfect shield that can reflect projectiles. To balance, whiffing has endlag. -Down Smash is now the Spin Attack. A fully charged smash attack summons Urbosa's spirit for Urbosa's Fury, which adds a lightning effect -Up Special pops Link up in the air on his Paraglider with Revali's Gale. Link can stall in the air with his bow attack, like how he can bullet time in the air in BoTW. Tapping Down Special while on the Paraglider has Link drop a Remote Bomb below him. Kirby -Down Tilt has Kirby do his slide attack. -Forward Air is Kirby's Air Puff. -Final Smash is now Kirby's Friend Circle attack from Star Allies. A random set of Helper characters pops up to make the circle for visual flair. Fox -Tap Side Special for a Fox Illusion that goes a shorter distance but has less endlag. -Hold Side Special for a Fox Illusion that goes a longer distance but has more endlag. -The Team Star Fox Final Smash is now a reticle attack like Pit's Lightning Chariot.

When you mentioned Pichu, you said that it being hurt doesn't directly reference the games. This statement is simply not true. Even though it doesn't take constant damage from electric type moves in the battles, the Pokedex states that Pichu is inexperienced with Electricity, and will shock itself. At the very minimum, Pichu's salf-damage gimmick pays homage to the original series.

Rob’s cart attack could function the exact same as his forward B: having the cart spin-out as a way to retain the spin attack function. Still works the same and doesn’t overlap with Wario’s motorcycle, but it’s a far more interesting visual than just spinning his arms around.

Pichu's recoil mechanic actually does reference source material. It was a rushed decision for differentiating it from Pikachu. Pichu isn't able to use it's power properly like it's two evolutions can. So, it'll often go overboard and hurt itself. So, Pichu does canonically have more damage output that causes recoil. That's more of a manga and anime thing tho.

I’ve had some ideas for Link. First, the bow could cycle through arrow types the longer you hold down B, going in the order of arrows in BotW (normal, Fire, ice, shock, bomb, and ancient, which is a one-hit KO but takes a long time to charge up to). Then, I agree with revali’s Gale and the Parasail being the recovery, but I think Revali’s Gail should be chargeable and should have limited uses per stock. Same with Daruk’s protection being a parry, only usable three times a stock. Final smash could be Urbosa’s Fury, a cinematic where link uses stasis to lock opponents in place, spin attacks with an Ancient Axe, and then slams down with Urbosa’s Fury

Smash Melee Peach -Peach's swimming animation has her riding Perry the Parasol, referencing the Bowlbrella ability in Super Princess Peach. -Dash Attack has Peach dash through with Perry, referencing the Chargebrella ability in SPP. -Down Air has Peach do a ground pound attack with Perry, referencing the Poundbrella ability. -Neutral Special is now the Vibe Scepter. However, of changing Peach's emotions, its a short-range projectile that messes with enemies' emotions as a debuff. Joy Vibe makes enemies take increased knockback, as though they're jumping for joy, as well as references how the Joy Vibe lets Peach fly in SPP. Rage reduces enemies' jump height and ground speed, referencing how Peach can't jump very high and moves much slower when using the Rage Vibe. Gloom reduces enemies' traction, as though they're slipping on their tears, and references how Peach runs faster as she's crying from the Gloom Vibe. Calm makes enemies deal less damage, as though they're too chill to want to fight anymore. -Up Special works the same, but now Peach uses Perry. Zelda -Zelda now has a Magic Meter that gets consumed every time she uses a special. This would force players to be more thoughtful about using their special, incorporating the whole Wisdom schtick of Zelda's part of the Triforce. -Smash Attacks and/or throws could incorporate the various medallions and magic rods from the series. Dr. Mario -Megavitamins work similar Pac-Man's Bonus Fruit, where holding Neutral Special cycles through the different color pills. Red pills deal fire damage, blue pills can freeze at high percents, and yellow pills deal random effects. -Side Special has Dr. Mario break a bottle that unleashes a random Virus, Fever the Red Virus, Chill the Blue Virus, and Weird the Yellow Virus. Each latches onto a nearby opponent and does chip damage, but landing a megavitamin of the corresponding color does extra damage. -Dr. Mario's Final Smash now works like PK Starstorm, where pills come falling down onto the battlefield. Marth -Marth's down special would be Reforge. Holding Down Special brings up a wheel of the words "Might," "Hit," "Crit," "Lightweight," and "Heavyweight." Selecting Might increases the damage of normal attacks. Selecting Hit makes Marth's tipper more forgiving. Selecting Crit gives Marth the critical smash attack mechanic of Hero. Selecting Lightweight increases Marth's movement. Heavyweight reduces the knockback Marth takes. Ganondorf -Ganondorf's forward tilt and forward air reflect projectiles, referencing Dead Man's Volley. -Smash attacks has Ganondorf swipe/stab with the trident Phantom Ganondorf uses in Ocarina of Time. Roy -Roy gets a Weapon Level gimmick. He starts off without his fire effects, but once he deals enough damage, he gets his stats buffed and his fire effects. Think Cloud's Limit but you can only fill the gauge by doing damage.
