What I Wish I Knew Before Competing In Pageants

A decade of competing in pageants has taught me many things I wish I knew before I started. Many of these lessons I learned the hard way (and boy do I have anecdotes for you) but now and here, at least I've got a place to share them.
Wherever you are in your pageant journey, I hope you find my advice helpful. May it make your path to the crown an easier, more enjoyable, and fulfilling experience.

If your teeth take away from your facial beauty and symmetry, you should consider getting advice from an orthodontist. An orthodontist will tell you how your teeth can be corrected to fit your face better and make the most of your facial structure and beauty. If it's just a matter of a chipped tooth or teeth needing cleaning or whitening, ask your dentist for advice. In general, you should have your teeth professionally cleaned every six months. A chipped tooth ( or teeth,) can be very easily fixed. You can also use over the counter whiteners like Crest White strips that do a great job of whitening your teeth.😁

So true, I struggle to ask for things, and I have been trying to gain that habit now.

Girl same, but hey the thicker the skin we develop in being told “no”, the better! It’s actually a real superpower for some people to have that resilience. One thing that helps me with asking and is remembering that a no is rarely personal! :)

I was wondering if you could do a video on how to choose a gown/ do evening gown makeup- I don't see a lot of East Asian influencers online and it would be super helpful!

Hi Edie! I made a video covering how to do a general pageant makeup look but here in this part, I cover how you can use a color similar to your evening gown in your eyeshadow to pull your look together: kzread.info/dash/bejne/l42EzpiiYdKpcbw.html

@@shivanibhati2431 hi Shivani, I am sadly on an uploading break due to increasing work demands at the moment but I’d love to help address this question right away since it’s a fantastic one. Framing your answers quickly comes down to a few things: 1) answer the question immediately without trying to “set it up” or provide context. You can always add the context after the primary meat of your answer is given but in those cases, most of the time it’s really not super necessary. 2) Learning the above skill is something you after actively have to practice. Grab a timer and have a friend ask you questions. 3) Film yourself doing number two and watch yourself, and give yourself critique!

Hi Anjali, work has been super busy this week so I don’t think I’ll be able to put out a video in two days. But I wanted to circle back to you and give you the answer that I would have talked about in my video anyway. For any social work component of a competition, you just need to be able to talk about it confidently. Doing the work is one thing (and some coaches really encourage you to actually accomplish the project so that you have the real life experience of having done it) but being able to persuasively communicate what you did is an entirely different thing. The latter is more important and more directly serves you in your scoring. If your pageant is coming up, work on the main points you want to discuss and practice hitting those points quickly and deftly. The judges don’t have time to verify whether you did all those things you’re talking about, so although I’m not saying you should be dishonest about your social work, I am implying that as long as you can deliver a convincing account of what you’ve done, in most cases, you’ll be solid. Another technique is to include a link to a website or online portfolio in your resume or fact sheets. Ideally you can choose a short and memorable url (like AnjaliServes.com) and it can be mentioned in your interview. This website should showcase all the service work you’ve done and it just pushes the judges to see it when you’re not in the room with them. That will give you more time being evaluated outside of the normal competition. It’s sort of a hack in that regard.
