This is so helpful!!! I noticed that most tutorials were by Caucasian queens and as an East Asian person I could never figure out how to enhance my eye shape! :) Thank you so much for this tutorial!

Ya I feel you! I remember back in 2013 when I was trying to figure all this out and I googled around and there were no pageant tutorials done by asian people so I just sort of hacked it from tutorials I watched done by a Hispanic titleholder. The biggest thing I’d say for us is to really blend that Smokey eye while also not being afraid to deepen the color on the outer corners. I also forgot to mention that after you do your makeup, take a picture with flash and make sure it’s heavy enough that you can still see your features. More is more! Just make sure to blend everything well (esp eyeshadow and blush/contour) and it will look good!

Nice and informative! I like Maybelline superstay, which is 24 hr liquid lipcolor. It really lasts all day without smearing and it's pretty cheap at Target. Please do a tutorial focusing on eye lashes and what works best. Thank you!

I like using neutrals; taupes, browns, olives, and accenting with muted blushes and golds. They tend to be more universally flattering and are more on-trend these days (ie versus the brighter blues and pinks of the 80s.) Don’t be afraid to experiment, take photos, review them, and adjust from there!

Hi @Crystal Clues! I am new to your page and love it. Also, I am new to pageantry outside of school. You mentioned for Miss America that you had to learn how to do makeup. Currently, I am interested in competing in a local Miss America pageant. Do you know if the same rules for must do own makeup apply locally? If not, how do you suggest I book a makeup appointment between interview and show time?

I'm not Crystal, but have competed with Miss America for years :) You cannot have a makeup artist with you backstage at any locals, and no state competition (as far as I know) allows candidates to use them, period. If it's a one-day local pageant and you *really* want to, you can get your base face done offsite by a makeup artist before check-in, and then add any additional contour/eyeshadow/etc yourself between interview and onstage competition. (I've done this - not against the rules as long as the artist doesn't come to the venue!) That gets to be expensive, though - I recommend just getting a hair and makeup lesson. It's cheaper in the long run and a great skill to have.

Sorry my perverted ass watched this but I want to acknowledge and commend all women who spend so much time doing this to look nice and professional. It's a significant time sink and requires effort whereas guys like myself wake up, splash some water on the face, wipe it with hand and arms and are good to go.
