Jamerille, you have all winter to unpack. The spring/summer time is for outdoors work like gardening. Feeding your family is more a priority than unpacking. That will get done sooner or later. And, wintertime is the best time to unpack and set up the home. You are doing a great job homesteading. I enjoyed the vlog.

Hey ,it's sheryn from New Zealand, just wanted to let u no that one of our aunties used to plant paddocks of potatos, and to keep them she had a smallish shed and she would lay straw or bracken lay a layer of harvested potatos, another layer of straw and another layer of potatos, etc, etc, and that's how she kept them, and they would last all winter or summer depending when u plant.they were for the extended family to use for cooking,we would just go and get a pot full whenever we wanted potato's for our meal, hope this helps u on ur storage of ur potato's,love and blessings from my family to urs.

You know what you should do is have the kids bring up 4 boxes every day. Unpack them first, then you can go about your day. Then you are getting things unpacked and doing what you want to do.Then when you get to the bags- do 4 bags. When you finally just have some random stuff have all the kids and you grab and go on the stuff until "poof" it's all gone. "Have your cake and eat it too!" Always open to trying new things in the garden. That keeps it fun!

My thoughts exactly❣️ How do you eat an elephant?!?! One bite at a time🤗😉. The garden is looking fantastic Jamerill. Just a quick and humble suggestion here - sew your marigolds in pots now, then they should be big enough in a couple or three weeks to plant around your tomatoes to help deter pests like aphids and such. Basil is another great companion plant for tomatoes. Plant the marigolds and basil next to the tomato plant, they don’t need to be in a row like the tomatoes. Also, I love the cattle panels for my tomatoes also - use zip ties to attach your plants to the panels, works great. I always plant zinnias and cosmos in my garden also. They attract the pollinators like a magnet all season long, plus they make beautiful cut summer bouquets for the home. Check out Danny & Wanda @ Deep South Homestead, lots of sage gardening advice there. I enjoy your videos so much, thank you for all you do❣️🥰

Oh, a blast from the past. I learned of Ruth Stout when I had a farm in the ‘70s and faithfully reading Organic Gardening. I still do the Ruth Stout method, I toss my veggie kitchen scraps on the ground. They mulch and feed the soil. Don’t worry about weed seeds in the straw. If they grow, they’ll be super easy to pull up and just lay them on top of the mulch. Fun fact: Ruth is the sister of mystery writer Rex Stout.

If you’re killing cacti, then that means you’re overwatering them. Only water them once every two or three months (or whenever the weather apps say that it rained in Phoenix, AZ, (generally speaking that’s in November, July, & August) and let the water totally drain out the bottom, so there is no “standing” water in their root zone.) And keep the (potted?) cacti in full sun. Do not let it rain on them.

You’re going to love and appreciate every one of those potatoes. Along with cold storage and canning them, you can also dehydrate them. Don’t forget to set some aside for seed potatoes for next year. For a large family, especially growing children, there’s no such thing as too many potatoes. They’re filled with vitamins and minerals❣️

Speaking of sunflowers 🌻 I tried planting sunflowers a few times. Never worked for me. I read books, watched videos, etc... Just couldn't get it. Last year, my 10 yr old son was eating sunflower seeds and threw a hand full of them over our back fence (a 6 ft privacy fence) there's nothing on the other side of this fence expect a big ditch for water drain off and weeds, trees, ect.... Well, a few months later I'm out back playing with the kids and I notice something that's not normally there waving in the breeze at the fence. I do back there and there's a sunflower wonderland! I think every seed that he threw back there grew into a flower! With no maintenance, no care. And these were seeds from a store bought bag of David's ranch sunflower kernels. How the hell did those things grow? I was plenty jealous and irritated of all the hard work and I couldn't grow even one. A few are growing back this spring, I assume from seeds that fell off from last year. I don't think I'll ever get over this 😂

It is so wonderful to see your beautiful green land and garden! I am not much of a gardener, but I think that when a garden needs work it needs work. If you keep a record or diary of all your different garden methods for potatoes, etc, you will have a better idea of what works with your garden area. Unpacking can always be put off to an "inside" or rainy day. As long as you have clothes to wear and enough items for daily life you are doing ok. You are really going to enjoy your above ground pool. A 25-27 footer was the size we used to drool over in the Sears Catalog when we were kids. Just be careful to install it and care for it properly especially when you close it down for winter. It will last alot longer this way.

I literally moved boxes that had sat for ten years to our second home we bought from our first home we bought. Sadly, almost seven years later there is still one or two left. I really just need a dumpster and an 8 hour day without five little girls between 3 & 7 and a serious amount of caffeine.
